News:
-Dave Meltzer is reporting some additional notes regarding TNA's Destination X PPV this past Sunday. Sting was said to be pretty messed up and in a lot of pain following his Last Rites Match with Abyss at the PPV. Sting still appeared and wrestled at last night's TV tapings in Orlando.
[Hmmm. Mutoh is there. Sting feels pain. Coincidence?]
-It should also be noted that AJ Styles had the wind knocked out of him when he took his bump to the ring mat off the Elevation X structure. Despite the big bump, Styles also worked the TV tapings last night as well.
-According to The Calgary Sun, there is a report making the rounds that Ted Annis (aka Teddy Hart) will be signing a deal with WWE once his contract with MTV expires (Hart was part of the Wrestling Society X project). There has been a lot of talk about him coming into WWE for some time to possibly team with Harry Smith and Nattie Neidhart to create a new Hart Foundation. However, when Teddy Hart's name is involved, you don't always take everything you hear 100% seriously. So for now we will take this as nothing but a strong rumor, if anything.
-WWE has doubled (and in some cases, tripled) the price of booking WWE talent for autograph sessions. Because of this, it is likely that WWE talent will start to appear less and less for autograph signings. WWE made the change to bring their talent up to the price they feel they are worth on the market.
The show is on:
Orton is in Edge’s face, claiming Edge is brown-nosing Viny Mac. Edge replies, “You can trust me.”
Styles claims WWECW is sold out.
Battle Royale: ECW Originals vs WWECW New Breed:
The New Breed is here.
The greatest song in wrestling hits, and it’s the ECW originals.
IT IS ON!!
Striker tosses Sandman over the top, Sandman takes a guard rail to the face.
RVD is focused on Kevin Thorne. Korvan is with Sabu. Striker helps Burke out with Dreamer. RVD and Sabu get rid of Korvan. Thorn drills Sabu out, and Sabu lands in an interesting flipping manner. Its RVD vs Striker and Thorne vs Dreamer. Burke’s waiting in a far corner, and goes after Dreamer with some “ground and pound.” I like to call it baby tantrum. Thorn kicks RVD down; Striker tries to capitalize, but its sunset flips for everybody, courtesy of RVD. RVD tries on several occasions to take Thorn over. He does it with a flying body press. Both go over but RVD holds on,however he clearly touches the floor with both feet; Striker knocks him down to make it official. Dreamer gets rid of Thorne, and now it’s Burke. He strikes with that flying knee backsmasher. He throws Dreamer over, but Dreamer holds on. Burke thinks he’s won it; Dreamer gets the drop on Burke and over the top Burke goes.
Winners: ECW Originals.
Foley comes out in the middle of the Originals’ celebration.
Cheap pop. Cheap plug for the book. Even Foley says so. He talks to Dreamer and brings up their last encounter. He offers Tommy a peek at the book, but Dreamer drops it. Foley brings up One Night Stand as being his contribution to making sure the originals got what they deserved. He tries to get a [WW]ECW chant going with the crowd, but it’s a mixed bag of [WW]ECW chants and WHAT.
We are shown Snitsky, and all of his victims. He’s next.
It’s Layla and that dance-thingy. Nice and all, but the Nitro Girls got’em all covered. Snitsky’s music hits, the girls ditch the ring and we have a….
Jobber. Handicap. Match: Snitsky vs a couple of jobbers:
Maybe they could make Snitsky the botched up evil stem cell clone of Lashley. There’s enough to compare. It’s Sci-Fi. Taz can’t remember the jobbers names during the replay.
Burke tries talking to Punk. Everyone has bad nights. This is a smart way of making Punk shine. No sides. As Punk says, “It’s all about me.”
More talk in Hollywood about McMahon and Trump. No one better have touched Kelly Hu.
Randy Orton vs Bobby Lashley: Lashley comes out, and the constipated dragons blow. Orton comes out, and he’s not happy. I think he’s upset Kennedy took his tattoo. The ever faithful Edge comes out. A big ole Raw label right next to his name.
The bell rings. They lock, trading kicks and punches. Orton works Lashley’s left knee; chokes him on the ropes. Orton gives Lashley all the time in the world to recover, and Lashley clotheslines him. Orton rolls out of the ring and decides to argue with Edge. I believe Orton was supposed to be thinking Edge was working over Lashley. Of course, it would have been nice if the referee was thinking the same thing.
Back from commercials. Orton has Lashley in a Boston Crab. I wonder if anyone’s ever farted on another wrestler’s head when they do a full boston crab or sharpshooter?
Orton puts the boots to Lashley. Orton cuts off Lashley’s comeback with a thumb to the eyes. Orton’s actually being allowed to get some offense in. He beckons Lashley, goes for the RKO, but Lashley shrugs him off. Edge tried to interfere, but the ref caught him and threw him out of the ring area. Orton’s mad. Lashley goes after him. Commercials. Coming back, both men are down; Lashley’s outside the ring. Once again the heel gains control during the commercial break. Orton does some nasty head stomping to Lashley’s melon on top of the steel steps. Orton gives Lashley a suplex outside. Back in the ring, only a 2 count for Orton. Orton goes back to the stomping, and suhweet dropkick to Lashley in the corner. Orton goes after the Boston Crab/Walls of Jericho-ish type maneuver. We got “boring” chants. Lashley grabs the bottom rope. Orton toys with Lashley. Pleads for him to rise only to punch him down. Orton tries to gutcheck Lashley, but the champ moves, and Orton’s shoulder dines on fine steel.
Running clothesline, and a spear into the corner by Lashley. Another. Lashley does a standing backdrop followed by an elbow, a cover, but only 2. Lashley hits the falling torture rack. Lashley hits the Dominator. 1..2..3.
Vinny Mac gives Lashley no time to rejoice. Lashley tells McMahon to man up, and we fade out.
Thoughts: This show had its share of – uh – stuff. Everyone’s hitting their spots, the Battle Royale wasn’t bad at all. There didn’t seem to be enough mixing of the wrestlers. Everyone picked hitting partner, and pretty much stuck with them, and flew out over the top when they were supposed to.
Snitsky’s getting his build. If he does what he’s told every day for the rest of his WWE contract, he shouldn’t be failing any wellness tests any time soon.
Orton looked good tonight, except for that moment when he allowed a half-fainted Lashley to recuperate. Really, he’s been looking good these past few weeks, and he’s really the only competitor to have given Lashley the thrashing that he did. Next week, Lashley should continue with his unstoppable warrior push next week until it’s time for Snitsky to take him on.
Whether or not it’s intentional, Punk has been handled well on WWECW in the promos these past couple of weeks, but we’re going to have to wait until after Wrestlemania to see if anything interesting is done with him.
