View Full Version : On a cheerier note, who's on DC's ressurection list?

Last week I asked who was on DCs hit list:
http://forums.comicbookresources.com/showthread.php?t=166480

Well now spring is springing, flowers are blooming, life is returning, so who is on DC's ressurection list?

After the last round of ressurections DC's Valhalla is pretty empty, the entire Green Lantern Corps down to Pixie Chick Green Lantern is back (did Disney Chipmunk Green Lantern make it back yet? you would think he'd be a natural for the Krypto cartoon) but I think we can make some educated guesses.
Personally I HATE ressurections, I see no reason any character (including the ones with Bats and S's on their chests) is irreplacable and even if they are, hey there's always flashback and out of continuity stories. But in the comic industry we have anyone can be brought back for any reason at any time including Thomas and Martha Wayne.

So...

Any New Gods currently dead, especially the High Father (killed off in the really bad Genesis crossover). They're the stars of the next big event, and they die and come back all the time anyway.

Queen Hippolyta - Killed off in the really bad our worlds at war event, one of the few stable supporting charaters in Wonder Woman's books. The other big event coming up is Amazon-related so I can see her returning and Artemis dying.

Who else?

I would hope Ted Kord leads the list, the new Blue Beetle looks like something out of Cyberforce. Ralph Dibny has allegedly already appeared in a One Year Later title so I guess he's back (don't read it so I don't know this to be a fact). Also, Denny O'Neil and Denys Cowan proved that creators with imagination can do Vic Sage as the Question really well. Although, editorially speaking, DC seems to be heading away from the more mature books like Vic's was.

When did Ralph Dibny die?

It says you're reading 52 in your sig, but I guess you aren't up to date with the last few issues. Ralph went out like a champ a few weeks back. I won't spoil the why or the how, but it was a pretty good send-off in my view.

Scrap the whole of last year and go back to Indentidy crisis and start again DC, try and get it right this time....................

I am reading 52, and no, I don't believe for a second that he's dead. Clearly, everything that's happened up until this point was part of his plan. Why would such a plan result in his death (unless he had a plan on how to return to life with Sue)? Since we've yet to find out what the full purpose of his plan was, we can assume there's more left for him to do.

So no, I never even considered the possibility that he might really be dead. Didn't even cross my mind.

(and 52 is first on my list because of alphabetical order, by the way. It's not a priority thing).

I've never liked the ressurection bit, but I would praise the day that they decided to bring Vic Sage back. Losing Vic Sage has left a serious void in the DCU for me, and I will be looking for Rucka's proposed Question series, but Vic Sage and The Question are indisputable favorites of mine, and it's going to prove tough letting Vic go.

It's nice to see Montoya's character being shifted elsewhere. 52 has moved her heroism to the forefront of her character's progression, and that's revived my interest, but I'm still bitter that a personal life time preference had to die.

Barry or Wally. I don't like Bart as the Flash. He was an important part of the team chemistry that made TT really good. Now, it's just good. I wouldn't be surprised to see Connor resurected this year either.

I would love to see either Kirk dePaul ("Manhunter" clone from Power Company) or Nemesis (the Greek/Armenian girl killed in JSA).

Why is it that every character based on Paul Kirk has to die?

Yes, to me that was perhaps the best done in DC history...

ON another note, I think Super-Boy is on his way out.

Since they 'killed' a lot of characters figuratively, then anything can happen. I'd be really happy to see a summer event that sends all the Crisis that ever happened to hell, no villians, no evil deeds, no mad plan to rule the universe centering attention and resources over a planet somehow overpopulated with metahumans.

Something simple, wise, clean and quick.

Call it ReStart, ONE, Big Bang or even Evolution, just send all the crap they have done this past 20 years to nonexistense.

Anyone can come back, and everyone would come back.

But do it right.

Personally I want Ted Kord, but I imagine that he is the one character that won't be back.

I'll second those that think Wally will be back, the current Flash series is extremely bad and needs to be fixed. (this isn't remotely on par with the introduction of Wally as Flash...Bart is just a bad character right now)

Wally's series wasn't doing so well during its last few months after Geoff Johns had left and the series was just limping to a close with the onset of INFINITE CRISIS. The criticisms mounted against the final issues of Wally's FLASH series were no less vehement than those leveled against the first eight issues of Bart's FLASH series.

The problem is not whether Wally or Bart (or for that matter, Jay or Barry) is the headlining the FLASH comic book series, but whether or not the creative team is able to write FLASH stories that click correctly with readers. When the right creative team is aboard, it probably won't matter so much who is actually wearing the red longjohns.

That being said, I'd definitely prefer it to be Barry.

No one's calling for the return of Thomas and Martha Wayne?

Just think of it, they could come back and reveil how they faked their own deaths to get revenge on Bruce and for the last 30+ years have been manipulating him. They're the ones who tossed Jack napier into a vat of chemicals, they are the ones who tossed acid at Harvey Dent, they are the ones who gave the Eraser his costume, it was them all along!

All for revenge!

I disagree with that. The last issues of Wally's series could be chalked up to a bad story arc. Bart Allen is just uninteresting as Flash. He was much better as Impulse before he got shot. DC should have talked Johns into doing a closing 4 issue stint to just kill time until Infinte Crisis or just cancelled the book at 225.

Vic's not gonna stay dead. Renee will kick around as The Question for a little while, but I have a feeling he'll return some how. As in the death thread, because Kendra's book is doing poorly, they could kill her and bring back Shayera. She's who non-comic fans recognize as Hawkgirl, and judging from what I've read at other boards over the past few years, she's the more popular of the two. As for Barry, I hope he continues feeding the grass also, but if his return is executed well, fine.

No, not for revenge. And only Thomas will be making a return. HE faked his own death (and had his wife killed) and manipulated Bruce's life for years for the express purpose of curing him of the cowardice he displayed in his youth!!!!

Over in the 52 thread for the week he died, someone posted that Ralph appeared in Justice League of America #1. I haven't read the issue though, so I don't know if it's true.

Of COURSE the guy with the Captain Cold avatar disagrees with the guy with the Flash avatar...

Bart can be a great Flash with the right creative team. I'd agree Bart was better as Impulse -- but why was that, do ya think? Peter David!! AND -- he used to be a unique character with a unique point of view and personality. It's not the character's fault! It's the fault of the storytellers that Bart hasn't been unique in a while.

Don't bring back Barry.

Bring back Wally because-- Jeez, what the hell happened to Wally? He's not dead, is he?

Don't bring back Superboy. Don't bring back Ted Kord.

Enough with the resurrections, enough with the deaths. Let's see what we can do with the pieces we have on the table right now, shall we?

I would like Ted Kord back. Sadly, I didn't get into comics until recently, and he was already dead when I found out how cool he was.

I too would like to see the return of the Ted Kord Blue Beetle but for the opposite reason. I'll be 52 this year. (Ironically enough) and I bought the issue of the origin of the Ted Kord Blue Beetle off the rack. I've always been a big fan of Steve Ditko and loved Ted costume. I liked it even better than Spider-Man's who he also created. Sadly it only lasted 6 issues if memory serves. Then when DC bought the Charlton characters and I first saw Ted back in I was thrilled. But then when they put him in Justice League they seemed bent on making a clown out of him. I didn't like that at first but the comedy was sooo good I soon warmed up to it. Then when I was reading what turned out to be his last mission, I said "Hey wow! Here is the serious Blue Beetle back at last. Plus what really got my motor running was it looked like Ted was finally going to get to use Dan Garrett's magic blue scarab. Which I felt he always should have had to begin with. The blue scarab was really the only cool thing about the Dan Garrett Blue Beetle in my opinion. So we see him give the scarab to the wizard Shazam and then get trapped by Max Lord. Now what I thought was coming was the wizard Shazam would give Ted the scarab a the last moment and he would armor up and kick butt. But when I turned the page I saw the sickening sight of my boyhood hero getting his brains blown out! I felt like someone kicked me in the stomach. (Yeah I know they are only fictional comic book characters but when you grow up reading them they really do start to become part of you).

What bothered me most is what has happened since. Apparently DC has adopted a Ted is dead attitude and we fans are just told to "get over it".

Ok wishful thinking time. Since we never really saw Sasha cremate Ted's body it is possible she may have taken him to a hospital someplace and his body may be being kept alive by machine. Perhaps if Jaime just doesn't sell like DC hopes, perhaps in the final issue he may discover Ted Kord and use the scarab to revive him. Turning the reigns of the Blue Beetle back to Ted Kord where they belong.

At least in Kingdom Come I did get my wish, if only for one series. Not only was Ted Kord alive and well in the future but he armored up at the end. I presumed it was via the Blue Scarab.

Sorry this is so long winded. That's what happens when you get to be an old fogey.

Peace be with you from Noman
