Hey Gail!

I just got a flyer from the promoters of the Pitt Comicon and you are listed as a guest!

Woo Hoo! I might get to meet you finally!

ACK!

No, I'm so sorry, but I am NOT GOING TO PITTCON this year.

Someone (Jen Contino of the Pulse) asked if I were interested, and I said, sure, have them send me the details as my schedule is pretty packed.

Somehow, the Pittcon people got the idea I'd said yes, and printed out that flyer AND posted it on their website.

I NEVER said yes, and in fact, told them very quickly that I had a previous engagement in Boston the exact days of the event.

I'm sorry about it, I hate to disappoint anyone, but these folks REALLY jumped the gun here badly, and I keep hearing about it, and it makes me sad!

I don't blame ya', Gail. Pittcon's sucked for the better part of a decade, now.

Indeed. The only reason I go when I go is that it's super-close.

From the Pitt-Con Website (http:..www.pittsburghcomicon.com)...

"Gail Simone

(For those of you who received our Comicon Mailer with Gail Simone listed as a guest, I apologize. This was an instance of us jumping the gun. Gail had expressed an interest in being a guest at the show and we, of course, were very interested having her. [me especially, I'm a HUGH Gail Simone fan.)

What you need to understand is things tend to move at breakneck speeds around here and with deadlines looming large, and as a way of working ahead I decided to go ahead and do a feature on Miss Simone with the thought that we could change it in time if she couldn't make it. As it turns out Gail did have a previous commitment but by then it was to late to stop the presses on a 20,000 print run of the paper. I take complete responsibility for this mistake and I apologize both to Miss Simone and to all her fans. Gail has expressed a interest in attending a future Pittsburgh Comicon and we hope we can bring her to Pittsburgh in coming years.)"

As for the con "suck"ing, I've been attending (mostly as a guest) for over 12 years now, and always have a great time. It's not a convention we attend to make money, rather than to promote (since they do heavily promote small press), see friends, party, and just have a nice family atmosphere to let my kids run around, get sketches, talk to creators, and have fun.

And the charity events like the Casino Night (which is the BEST fun!), the auction, the Quick Sketch...all go along way in my book of always helping the George Family out anyway I can. The money they have raised for Make-A-Wish and the CBLDF is tremendous!

I hope those that do attend have a great time, and stop by the Luchador Ent. (www.luchadorenterprises.com) booth for some great comics (Retribution) and children's books (Rocky the Crab).

**Hey...I am their Publicity Director! :D**

I don't like the owner. I went when I lived in Pennsylvania because it was close, I could usually find pretty good deals at some booths, the indie publishers, and to see Marty Nodell, 'cause he was goin' almost every year until his wife died. The big talent wasn't coming in much when I stopped going. You could only count on two things: Marty and Mike Turner.

I learned recently that elitist snobs like me can do major shopping there, because a lot of the things we like are readily accessible in five-dollar bins.

Of course, I learned this after I bought just about every small press book there by local talent, and had little money left over. BUT NOW I KNOW AND STUFF AND YEAH.

Heh. Earlier today, in the middle of Missouri, my wife noticed the car in front of us had a Pennsylvania tag. My 6 year old daughter remarked that Dracula lived there.
