I know I am nothing like a regular here, but I thought, since the YABSers were such a big part of helping me after the fire, I should.

We still have some things to do, a little bit of paint, about 36 sf of tile, and the countertop guys have to reappear with the red counters, BUT...

We got word today we can move into our new house.

THANK YOU YABSTERS from me and my family. You are amazing and kind.

Dear Lea,

It was a privilege to lend a hand. I sure look forward to seeing you again, and sharing some laughs. Please pass along our best wishes and hugs to the whole family.

Thanks everyone for the well-wishes!
We are here now. MOving the King mattress was a stone bitch, it is 60 pounds of dead, bulky weight. We struggled in with it while it was raining. In fact, it was raining most of the time after we got the first load to the house.

The new house got a good shakedown last night, too; we had the worst storm of the year so far (even beating the ice storm for ferocity). The lightning was so bright we could see it even with our eyes closed. The thing we most appreciated last night was the lack of leaks! Our old house had a multitude.
The police came and put the barrier across the end of the street, and the greenbelt clogged. King said that there was a crane out this morning pulling out debris.

The fire and moving back were perfectly bracketed by two events: the house burnt the morning of my husband's birthday, and we moved back in yesterday, which was mine.

I don't have the newest pictures up yet, but you can see the progress of the house from burnt to built (and puppies!) at:

Happy birthday from me, too, Lea.

And may I say you have excellent taste in chocolate. Lindt has a new dark chocolate with caramel and fig that you should give a try.

Thanks, everyone!
Sorry to not reply sooner, but we have an unreliable connection until (presumably) Monday, when cable is in at the Barbie Dream House.
Sorry, also, for not more individual replies. The connection sucks, and has already et one post.

Gail: Thanks, and puppy deded me, too. They both ded me every day. THey are constant sources of ded and pee and poop.

Az: Well, you could say my husband got the gift of an alive family, thanks to my daughter and me, so we all win!

Larry: the many many storage containers you sent were invaluable! I got my whole (new) studio supplies in them. I'm not sure you want to be thought of every time I pick up a swell gold container with a clear plastic top, but there it is. Now that we are home, we can start watching the DVDs you sent.

4thPip: I'll try the Lindt, you check out Chocolove dark with cherries. Or Chocolove 70A%. YUM!

Dedagda: It wouldn't have been the same without you and Gail's help. (And everyone's, really.)

We had movers bring in the rest of the heavy stuff. The king mattress did us in, and thank heavens.

I'll check in later!

I didn't realize you were posting here, Lea! Not that you'd know me, but I read all about what you've been through. Believe me, I can sympathize.

I'm so glad to hear everything's finally working out for you. I'd send birthday wishes, but ain't nothing I could wish for that'd even come close to what you've got now.

Best to you, King, Girl and Boy in your new abode!

I'm not sure you want to be thought of every time I pick up a swell gold container with a clear plastic top, but there it is.

I am quite dedicated to plastic containers now, in my life. :) It is (unfortunately) a case of experience, there... after a fire, amidst the tragic losses involved, containers like those really DO help someone get their life in order. It's a psychological thing; a place for things, a sense of order added, even in small ways.

But let's see; alchemically and magically, a container is a carrier, a vessel; something that encompasses and enfolds and at the same time, quantifies what is held within it. Gold is a color of glory and monarchic or holy rank, evocative of regal bearing, sunlight and adornment. A clear top embraces it all, but lets the curious behold what is within.

What's not to love about being thought of like that? :)

It's hard to pick a good day to call! Monday is MOOONDAY, Tuesday is The Day Before New Comics Day, Wednesday IS New Comics Day, Thursday is The Day After New Comics Day, Friday is Oh My God Friday, Saturday is Saturday, Sunday is the Day Before the Day Before the Day Before New Comics Day.
There is no day Zeus Comics does not rock, or is not busy.

But I'll just call later this week.

And YEAH LIVE ART SHOW!

I am doing an intro for Impact's free comic book day compilation and they sent me some of their books.

I was surprised by how good these are. They're really entertaining and informative. I particularly raved about Colleen Doran's Girl to Grrrl Manga and Lea's Manga Secrets.

If you're a fan of Lea's art, you should get this book even if you're not an artist. It's full of page after page of really lovely illustrations and the theory behind them. It's sumptuous.

Why, thank yeh, ma'am.

I think my new job title will be "whimsical theorist." I will be the woman who taught a generation that hands are drumsticks.
