I'm thinking about getting an HD tv to take full advantage of the next generation games but I'm afraid if I get my old game systems might damage my TV.

I think only (rear?) projection tv's that could be damage the tv. I think you'd be fine with an LCD or Plasma for games. Although I use that word "think" a bit, so I hope some less ignorant than me drops in to give you some advice, too.

Your old games won't look as good (composite + HDTV = ass) but they won't damage anything

In case it matters, rhythm games are screwed up on some HDTVs if you use RCA cables. There's a slight delay in the audio and video that doesn't matter for most games, but for rhythm games it's disastrous. I don't know why this is, but I've seen it first hand and heard that others have had the problem as well.
