View Full Version : The Last Word

Ages upon ages ago, I wrote a story for my short lived anthology that was slated for issue three. The book lost funding and we had to scrap it, so there was no issue three. I ended up with a story on my hands. It was first drawn by one friend, but then another re-did it for reasons I can no longer recall.

I've never gotten it published. I've shopped it to a few anthologies but it never really "fit". I have parts of it on my site as samples, but have only posted the whole thing in one place.

I've decided to post it here.

Ladies and Gentiles, I give you The Last Word. Sory by Mordechai "Typo Lad" Luchins and art by Jason Whitley (http://www.undercurrentart.com/).

Please, savage it!

Please note that this story is a decade old now.

Thanks for letting us see this, Typo!

I've always loved stories in which characters start arguing with their creators. (The artist pleading to be left out of the argument was a very funny touch)!

Let us see more!!!

Thanks RR.

Page 6, panels 1&2 are reversed. Never noticed that before!

Ha! Ha! I could have told you women were trouble.

So is it savaging you want, or validation? Or does the former imply the latter to you?

Damned masochistic writers!

I just want to say that I actually know someone exactly like the female protagonist in this story.

Neither did I, because even reversed these panels make sense: first the lady complains that she's not a looker, which might be interpreted as an attack on the penciller (she might be suggesting that he can't draw pretty women). Whereupon you defend your penciller, saying that the attack was uncalled for, promoting the "did I hurt your ego?" question.

In any reading order, I enjoyed that tale and look forward to see more like it!

Fabulous. Very funny and well drawn.

First panel is a bit like the first panel of my Earth Man comic.

You should be proud of this, old or not.

Second panel is far out. Love it.

Can we see some more?

Thank you! Jason Whitley, the artist, is just great. Has an amazing range of styles and is fast too. Nice guy as well.

First panel is a bit like the first panel of my Earth Man comic.

Linky?

Thank you. In some ways I'm very proud of it. 18 year old me didn't suck.

Second panel is far out. Love it.

Do you mean second page? Either way, thank you.

Can we see some more?

Hmmm....

I have three more finished stories lying around. One's kind of dark and the other two need scanning.

I'll get on it.

Nice to see some comic work on these boards that isn't super-hero work. Nice work, Morts.

I can barely write that well NOW. Funny stuff, Morts.

Those splash pages are very Eisner-esque.

I've seen your stuff. You're much better than you let on.

Those splash pages are very Eisner-esque.

Wow. I don't think a higher compliment can be paid. I'll tell Jason you said that.

Oh, and Morts? Cool story.

Thanks!

Linky?

The links in my signiture. I was 18 too. I think Earth Man is on the second page. There are only two pages. But you'll see the similarities.
