O.K. you all know that im not much of a movie person, The medium in general isn't really my thing, but I have to admit , I was at least a bit interested in seeing the translation of 300 to the moving picture. I'm not the kinda person who wants to watch action flick EVER... Gimme characters and give me acting or go home, ( why else would i want to write my own comics ..?) But I have to admit, there were some parts of the movie that were so very well shot that it was able to hold my interest even throughout a wall of yelling, blood and drums. There are examples of really nice composition, dramatic framing , and GREAT REPOUISSIOR!.. I've not seen it done dramatically in movies in the last 40 years, but they got it right in 300! Sadly the movie left me feeling like I'd just watched someone else play a video game for 2 hours.(ouch!)..but some of the design, and shot composition make me have to say that I enjoyed it, and certainly held my interest!

Both are hard things to get me to say about a movie.

One other thing.. .for those of you who are photoshop junkies who've seen this moviel... did it seem like the entire move was run through the "unsharp mask" filter..? any comments..?

lemme know what you think!

Wait a minute... there was a sneak peak of this movie?! And I missed it?! Impossible!

I've been waiting for this movie to come out for a couple of years, now... and the time has finally come. I can't wait to watch it in all it's glory. I'm very glad to see that you enjoyed it and that further escalates my interest. ;]

I saw it in IMAX at WonderCon last week. I loved it. I'm a film junkie, but I'm not easily impressed.

I really loved the scenery, but it's sort of a let down when you remember that it isn't real and was created on a computer. A lot of films recently, especially those that have a lot of background visual effects, seem to have washed out or slightly out of focus look to them. It's really annoying, especially for projectionists who have to look at that to focus the picture.

Great film!

Baby Dave.. great points about the focus on the films.. I know that everyone wants to go to digital effects these days, probably because they are so cheap. But I have to admit, I really like the look of well shot models... Sadly I think that they are just about gone for good!

Saw the movie last night... and WOW! My opinion may deter from yours, but here's my review:

The movie, as you know, was loosely based on the Battle of Thermopylae in 480BC and also on the graphic novel of the same name, by Frank Miller.

It's portrayal mimicked both pretty well. In ways, it surpassed the novel, as in some ways, people could argue that it wasn't as good as the novel. To me, the visuals, the adrenaline you get from the acting and the battles, coupled with the outstanding soundtrack of classical mixed with metal, made this movie one for the ages. Think Troy, Gladiator and Alexander... and you've got the most adrenaline-enriched movie, right here.

Gerard Butler, along with his fellow Spartan actors (who all did phenomenal jobs) really stole the show. They were amazing. I found myself quoting "Madmen? No.... THIS IS SPARTA!" when I was in the car with my wife, just to relive that moment. The speeches and narration were excellent, and the overall acting was fantastic.

Had I the money, I'd go see this again and again... just so I could relive the experience in the theater again. However, since I don't, I'll hold out for the DVD and revel in the fandom that will resonate from this movie in the weeks to come.

This is the one to beat for 2007. I can't begin to imagine how Frank Miller feels after watching this sucker.

Though it wasn't directly based off of the events in 480BC, it didn't matter. The movie, just like the graphic novel, delivered. This was the perfect mix of historical-fantasy.

The rundown for me:

Acting: A+
Visuals/Cinematography: A+
Audio: A+
Story/Plot: A+
Cast: A+

Enjoy this sucker a few times for me! ;]

I don't know....I liked the movie, but I think i was a bit to syked about it. Where I want to say some of the visual effects made the film for me, i want to say others ruined it for me, and for a film made siting on a frame of visual effects, it doesn't bode well.

I liked it, but I didn't love, like i was hoping to.

Yes I agree the visuals are stunning, my favourite scene has to be when the Perisan messenger and his guards were riding over the hill in slow motion, with the sun ray at the back, so beautiful. And when the horse gallopes while the messenger holds up all those skulls, again in slow motion. Which reminds me, I feel that the slow mo effects are slightly over-used in the film, even though most of those moments look cool, it was just slow mo all the time..............And the giant rhino and elephants, what's the point!? They just died right after they appeared. But overall it's a good film, excellent visuals but alright story.

WOW.. I was 100-percent sure that my favorite part of the movie would be a small little insignificant moment that no one would notice, but i was wrong.. the Perisan messenger and his guards riding over the hill in slow motion was indeed the best 2 seconds of film in the whole movie... I watched Gone With the Wind only 2 days ago and kept asking, "why aren't there more silouettes in movies anymore" ... and then im reminded of this shot in "300"... SPOT ON!

Movie makers have got to realize that often less is more.. I don't need to see every detail, and I dont' need music throughout the whole movie... There is more drama in quiet than there is in loud!

frank miller is a fan of the "i don't have to detail the figure, and it looks even more dramatic? why isn't everyone else doing this?" school of art.
for best scene
and i'd go with the two friends, i forget their names, but when they went nuts and killed twenty guys with time going faster and slowing down, completely ignoring the mor realist "stand around with shields until there's an opening to spear someone" way of fighting.
oh, and hi

saw it last. it was brilliant!definitely be buying the dvd.

the only thing it bothered a little bit is the harsh lighting i the background. otherwise it was great, loved the dialogue, especially between leonides and the bad guy(can't spell his name).

Xerxes was the main baddy's name. He was leading the Persian army.
