I going to buy a PS2 just to buy this game. I loved the first one, and looking at the reviews, this games is going to kick ass. So what do you guys think about this game?

I've been playing the demo nonstop. I've been waiting for this ever since it was announced a year ago.

I'm gonna be weaving through traffic, hurdling over children and trampling old ladies next wednesday

Game looks tight. Love the new scenes.

Warning!!! Plot spoiler ahead!!:

Essentially, Kratos becomes a God who kills people and smashes cities at will... which he does on a daily basis. The other Gods hate that so much that when he invades Rhodes, they shrink him to human size and animate the Colossus of Rhodes to crush him. During this fight, he slowly loses his God powers, then his armor, and finally what else left that he gained when he was the war-mongerer.

I don't know about the rest of the plot, but I think they drag him down to Hades in an attempt to keep him out of the way, but you know he's going to get back out of that hole and try to smash the Parthenon to smitereens.

For about the past month or so I've been playing through the first one on God Mode to get me prepared for GoW2. I'm up to the battles with Aries at the end, but haven't had the time to really sit down and get through all of them. I'm not looking forward to having to fight a billion zillion Kratos clones again.

Picking up 2 is gonna have to wait a bit due to financial concerns, but when I get it, oh man, it's gonna be great.

Eeek, I can't WAIT for this game to come out. I dunno if I can afford it, but by God I want it! I read a whole bunch of spoilers on GameFAQs about who the bosses are, and...

There are SO MANY OF THEM. You get to face off against Greek heroes like Perseus and Icarus, or creatures like Euryale and Typon, and the ACTUAL Cerberus. Not to mention some of the Gods you have to battle. The Fates? Hellz yes. And apparently Lahkesis [sic] is a "big woman," which is nice seeing as the original GoW was like, supermodel boobs everywhere. And the Kraken is a boss! I've been hoping you'd fight either him or Scylla in this game.

In short, I can't wait.

I haven't been able to beat Challenge of the Gods yet. I'm stuck on the 8th stage I think, the one where there's tons of the undead soldiers and gorgons. One time I got down to only three gorgons, and those bitches killed me.

I've beaten the "Challenge of the Gods", took me several hours of play time to do though, it's a bitch.

That specific one you're talking about is difficult, that one is definitely about playing strategically and taking as little damage as possible. Using that "slam" ability (where you hold L1+O) is a good way to keep yourself from getting surrounded, just jump up in the air and slam the ground if you find yourself to crowded.

The 9th stage isn't too hard if I recall correctly, but the 10th is a real pain in the ass.

Got mine. Only got as far as the second flying level, but I'm enjoying it quite a lot so far. Even only a couple hours in, a bunch of events have happened, and there's been at least two (well, one and a half) battles with tremendously huge monstrosities. And the way you end up taking down the Colossus of Rhodes... priceless.

:D

So yeah, more of the same, but so much more.

PS

Also, boobies. I wonder if there's just the one sex minigame in this one, as in the first, or if they upped the ante again. All the "action" happens off-screen again, but even toplessness is a novelty in most games.

^^^ i have my copy too and i love it so far, im only at the part were you in typhone's tunnel and just finished the wall climbing, but still the game is alot of fun. I MISSED THE SEXXXY MINIGAME!!!!! the minute i killed the collossues of rhodes i remembered and i fliped out. luckily my brother got to it on his play and if you do it right for 10-15 times the girls say some pretty pillow talk, but if you do it wrong for about the same number of times Kratos says something. its funny.......if you have the guide then you know already.........
anyway cant wait till i get home to play it for 7 hours straight,

To get "That Minigame", again, you have to look around in the first stage. It's not out in the open like in the first one.

When Kratos gets dropped into the pool, swim around a bit before you dive. You'll hear some female voices.

I think you can figure the rest out.

ironically, the orbs you get as a reward aren't as useful as they were in the first game

The first level was a bit choppy for me. Lines in the graphics and such, but it's better now. Just got to the first Titan and think that this has the capabilities to be better than the first. Also, nice @$$ on the chick in the cinematic between Sparta and Hades!

I got mine today and I'm already like five hours into it. I love being able to fly, but I find it more of a hassle (those things are HARD when they shoot beams at you). I don't care for all the Straighty McGrady crap like the topless women and ass everywhere (where's the penis?), but I *love* Greek Mythology and being able to see their depictions of Euryale, the Griffins, various Greek Gods (the most of whom I'm not impressed with in these games), etc. And the worlds are so pretty! And I'm very VERY glad I haven't seen many of those "instant death" traps. Those were the first game's downfall. But if I have to climb up a wall one more time...

Your Imaginary Pal
03-15-2007, 01:01 AM
Oy the wall climbing. It's great and all but you can't always tell a climbable surface. I was stucl for a while in one particlar spot, then while walking around found my blades stuck in the wall. I was like, a half hour of trying to advance and all I has to do was go to the wall, but there is a fun new feature with the walls.

I'm loving the graphics, the new beasts look incredible, the Griffins in particular. I was amazed at the Colossus, just it's look was incredible, texture wise. I'm looking for the fates now.

This is a solid game, and I'm so glad it's on thr PS2 and not PS3.
Although, it would be reason enough to upgrade.

Inkthinker
03-15-2007, 04:00 AM
Wall-climbing is all about the jump button. Works on every (climbable) surface.

I love the epic feel to everything. And I like knowing that if I see just about anything interesting in the distance, it's a better than fair bet that I'm going there. When I saw the Steeds, I knew that sooner or later (sooner, in fact, which was also nice) I was going to be running around on those things. Getting to pin a cocky old man to a door and repeatedly smash his head with the jamb was just icing.

:D

I just got onto the island itself, and I'm fighting the first boss. Of course, I just had to start playing on God Mode straight out ('cause what the hell, I'm gonna have to do it anyway to unlock stuff), which means every damn fight is a struggle, but I'm still diggin' it. And man, you get a sense of accomplishment when you finish off a particularly difficult fight.

I picked my copy up on Wednesday thanks to glorious tax return money. I haven't had the chance to play it that much, only a few hours into it. I just finished up with the Steeds of Time.

Impressions so far:
- Awesome
- Graphics look even more impressive than before
- Flying levels were pretty cool
- I like that you can cancel Rage of the Titans before you use it all up
- More boss-ish type fights is nice

Rented mine yesterday for financial reasons.

The game is pretty solid, and a great way to blow off steam.

I'm finding some flaws in the story-telling, however. There seems to be a lack of cohesion in the details and the over-all flow of the storyline. Oh well.

However, I find I'm needing some help in a certain spot. It's fairly far in, I've got almost 10 hours under me and I've reached the Temple of the Fates.

The problem is: The first room of the temple is full of water and has two huge bells in it, one with Zeus' face on it, the other depicts Cronos. There's a big beam suspended from a rotating platform that you can use to ring either bell but nothing happens. I cannot for the life of me figure out what to do in here. There's no switches to mess with, no walls to climb, the only thing you can do is ring those bells. I've tried getting them to ring at the same time but it's fairly not possible and I don't even know what, if anything, will happen. And that's it.

So, is anyone far enough along to offer some advice on this conundrum?

The bells are pretty tricky to get, but what has been said is the right idea. Here's a bit more detailed description, if you need it.

Line up the striker with one of the bells. Press R1 to pull it back. While the striking animation is happening, hold down L1 and start tapping R1 so that you'll activate the Amulet of the Fates as soon as you get back control. As quick as you can, jump and Icarus glide over to the other bell. Press R1 to grab it, and then tap L1 and R1 like mad. This will crack the statue's face. Then line up the striker with the face and let it fly one more time to bust the face, leading you to the next area.

Altraferne
03-20-2007, 07:55 PM
Well, I did it! Thanks for your help guys.

I must say though, I find that many of these puzzles are extremely counter-intuitive and just down-right frustrating at times. Most of the time I just stumble upon the solution by accident, or something I've been trying for about 20 minutes just suddenly works.

I can't say I enjoy that.

So, having finished the game, I found it to be bigger and more complex than the first, but also lacking in cohesion as I said earlier. The story felt like it was trying to do too much and not really getting it. Also, I found myself not really rooting for Kratos. In the first game he was a tragic character, deserving of pathos, justified in his rage and thirst for vengence. In this game he was just being a jerk. Yeah Zeus killed him, but that's nothing he hasn't dealt with before. Shoot, he gets hurled into the Underworld every Tuesday and walks right out. Why do the gods even think that'll do any good? Besides, that wasn't nearly so bad as tricking him into killing his own family like Ares did. I would think that, as a Spartan, Kratos would find death at the hands of the King of Olympus a glorious end.

I also happen to think the Titans are full of it. Gaia said she nurtured Zeus' desire for revenge against Cronos and then she's all shocked when he wants revenge against all the Titans. I mean, Cronos was eating his own children and nobody says anything, but when Zeus wants to take over the world and rule humanity (which he didn't seem to be doing so bad with) they just can't allow that. Shenanigans I say!

I am glad they put in more boss fights though, made me feel like I was actually accomplishing something rather than just finding my way to the next room. The final battle with Zeus was okay, but all in all not that impressive. It was good starting out but then it just kinda wimped out. There wasn't that much to it, and it was pretty short. (Keep in mind I was playing on Mortal Mode cause I'm a wuss.) I did enjoy the fight with Lakhesis and Atropos though.

To sum up: the first game felt like a beautiful bloody tragedy, it was concise, plot driven and tragic. This game felt more like the big action-movie sequel that gave us more flash but less substance, the story being just a way to string together the various elements of the game. It lacked polish.

Striking the door normally will build up your Titan's Rage meter. Activate when full and then attack the door when in Titan Rage mode. You might need to do a combo to break it.

I finished God mode last night and now I'm working my way through the Challenge of the Titans. Kick ass game, but I hate cliffhanger endings.

Overall, I think this was easier than God of War. Maybe it's because I just played through the first one on God mode last month and am used to a harder difficulty. I'll give it a whirl in Titan mode and see how I do.

I like that the Challenge of the Titans saves your progress after each challenge. Lots of unlockable stuff I'm looking forward to getting.

the final health upgrade is right before you save the guy from killing himself. instead of using the amulet to slow down and save him you turn around and run to the spot where the statue used to be. if you get there in time there will be a chest. if not you will see a blur. the final magic is right before the part where you hae to glide past all the spinning pillars. use the air bow to shoot the engraving in the wall before gliding and there is the final magic upgrade as well a lever that will pull back the spikes to make gliding alot easier

Well after three to four days of playing it nearly non-stop I've beaten it and I have to say that it's pretty frickin' sweet, though since I got the Urn of Gaia early it felt kinda odd when I managed to level up all my spells and weapons in little time.

Also I watched the extra DVD that comes with it and it's kinda sad that they couldn't put some of the bosses they originally wanted into the game, like Oceanus for example.

are you kidding? you should try turning all the urns on and playing as cod of war! as cod of war you get 2X red orbs, urn of gaia gives you 10X red orbs, and urn of euralie turns your opponents to stone...which gives you more orbs then just flat out killing them. i have about 500,000 orbs and im not even at the steads of time. im replaying the game for the sole purpose of seeing how many orbs i can get before finishing the game. then replay on god/titan mode and be able to upgrade everything at once since titan mode you have 1/2 the health and do 1/2 damage

Sadly i have been away from my spartan friend, once i get home im playing nonstop. anyway, i beat the game before i left for italy and it was a blast. i have to agree with alot of the posters that the game seemed alot easier than the first, but still it didnt depleat the pleasure of which that is god of war. because of my time limit on the game, i only got to play the first challenge in the titan challenges-beat it though. see my other thread about god of war 3, i think that you will find it quite interesting. sorry just had to throw that in there, anyway, the ending kind of kicked me off my horse, someone explain it to me i only know the basics__the titans are using kratos to quell their empty stomachs of revenge and destruction of the gods, in return kratos gets to rule olympus (i think)_

heres a thought...kratos is always saying "the gods are useless and their guidence is unneeded" but heres the punch in the krotch, isnt kratos a god (well he was) he basically just shanked himself, huh, funny.

I think GoW2 seems a little easier because you already know how the game works. That's why I jumped right into God mode 1st, that helped

I love the alternate skew on Greek Mythology (again!), particularly with Perseus and Icarus.

The fight with Perseus would have been much better, IMO, had they fought on dry land and Perseus had Hermes' winged sandals. I'd like to see Kratos trash him so easily then. (But hey, Harry Hamlin! Awesome!)

But that brings the question, if Kratos killed Medusa in GoW, why would Perseus have all his godly equipment? Hmm...

Icarus scared me though. Maybe here, flying too close to the sun gave him heat stroke. I'm surprised he had it in him to pull Kratos off a bridge, and survive getting punched in the face that many times.

has anyone figured out what the Island of Rhodes website is all about?

all that shows up is a countdown. maybe its for the psp release? and it has its own separate story line.

Quick question, how long is this game? I'd say GoW was what..12-14 hours? Maybe a bit more on higher difficulties? Since this game is said to have a lot more bosses and stuff, I'm assuming it will be longer. I'd love to see a 20+ hour game, but I'm 99% sure it won't be that long. I just hope it isn't shorter than GoW, there is nothing more disappointing than falling in love with a game thats 10 hours or less.

I think it's great that Harry Hamlin was the voice of Perseus. Those who have watched "Clash of the Titans" would know why.

The first game was about 7 hours long. Where'd you pull 14 from?

This one's about 10-11

I just finished it and this was good but I like the first game better. In the first one I felt sorry for Kratos and wanted him to kick Ares's ass but in this game he is more of a selfish jerk and I am more on Zeus's side. It didn't even seem like he cared what he did to Athena and she was his biggest supporter and try her best to protect him.

Oh well, helpfully the next game will change my mind.

I have to disagree on the last part. Killing Athena was about the only thing he showed any kind of remorse for since he killed his family. You can see it on his face when he stabs her.

When he stab her yes but after she got done talking to him and died, he didn't seem that interested in her anymore.

heres how i see it, when Kratos killed Athena, that only made him want to kill Zues even more. so, in the end, Athena's death fueled even more hatred into the brocken heart that is the ghost of sparta

i have a question, at the end of the game, the last cinamatic when Zues is speaking to his fellow gods, theirs a man standing to the left (remember that your looking at helios' back for this one) who is he? at first me and my brother thought it was Herculese but we're not sure, can anyone help me with this?

It's been a while since I last watched the ending but if I recall correctly it's(in my opinion): Zeus, Helios, Hades, Hermes, and Hercules. There's a voice credit for Herecles in the booklet but no speaking part in the game. I haven't unlocked the Hercules Armor yet so I can't compare it.

For the Record, I think the glowy guy was Posiedon.

But Herc is a secret skin for Kratos that you can earn.

Just beat GOW 2 today and man that was all kinds of awesome.

Sucks though GOW 3 will most likely be on PS3 as it will be amazing with a the titans and the gods going head to head.

I have a feeling Kratos will kill Zeus in GOW 3 and find out Gia is a lying bitch and it will be Kratos vs the Titans in GOW 4

I finished it the other day.
I was dissapointed with the entire game, I should've played it on the God setting, because it was really easy to me. Even the final battle. Too easy.
And the ending was lame as well, but it makes me want the next installment though.

So it's all good then.

Just out of curiousity what mode did you play it in?
Because I played it in Hard mode (which is a step below God mode) and had a REALLY, REALLY hard (but enjoyable) time from the horsekeeper, to that damned Barbarian (who gave me hours of hell). But I was supprised at how easy the sisters of fate went down. Also remember in GOW2 there are not much "try, try and cry parts" like the spiked totems in hades you had to climb only find out there was a next one for you like in in GOW1.

i dont know why every one had such a hard time trying to by the spiked pillars, for me they were pretty easy, got past barely falling, by brother had a hell of a time though, took him a better part of an hour. any way i swear to god i can barely pass the collusses of rhodes in god mode, sh!t i could barely pass the the hydra in god mode for the first game. i dont how some guys (and girls) were able to beat the game in titan mode.

I've yet to play this game but I'll probably buy this game in the summer. I've watched the ending of the game on Youtube & I'm really hoping that GOWIII will be able to surpass GOWII. From the reviews that I've read this game is really great. I'd like to be able to play as a few of the Titans such as Atlas & Kronos during a certain portion of the game.
