I'm looking for some solid Spider-man trades. One thing I'm looking for is a lot of fights with classic Spider-man villains: Doc Oc, Sandman, Vulture, Electro, Mysterio, etc. Another thing I'm looking for is nice art.

I know that there's a Sandman trade coming out this week, which I may actually pick up for my brother. However since his first appearances were in like the 60s or something, I feel like the primitive art on some of those issues holds them back.

So does anybody have some good suggestions? They can be recent or somewhat older stories, as long as the are solid.

The Marvel Masterworks trades would be best suited for you. They feature the comics from Stan Lee's day, and are filled with stories featuring the classic villains like Doc Ock, Electro, Mysterio, Vulture etc.

Plus, Ditko and Romita Sr are on the art.

You could also get the Essentials trades, if you don't mind black and white comics.

But, if you don't like the older art work, you could get the Sinister Six trades from the 90's. They feature the classic villains, too. There's 'Return of the Sinister Six' and 'Revenge of the Sinister Six'.

I usually suggest you forget the trades and buy the spiderman dvd rom collection that has i think 500 issues on it.

Who are some of your favorite Spider-Man artists, or artists in general? That'll make it easier to recommend something you might like. Sounds like Keeher's given some pretty solid suggestions though.

"Marvel Knights Spider-Man" by Mark Millar has a lot of fights and most villians were used. It's available in one hardcover edition.

"Spider-Man: Blue" is a flashback story with what you're looking for, too. "Son of the Goblin" has a lot of Green Goblin battles.

And "Ultimate Spider-Man" reintroduces all the villians to have better modern origins. It's an ongoing series with plenty of trades.

Otherwise I don't know. I wouldn't call Steve Ditko's art "primitive" except for the color. The Essentials pack 20 issues a book in black and white, and is a great deal.

I'll second Marvel Knights Spider-Man - 12 issue hardcover with ALL his most famous villains.

Pick up Amazing Spider-Man: Coming Home, too! Not too many rogues, but you'll get enough of them in Marvel Knights spider-man. In Coming Home, Spidey fights this really powerful being called Morlun, who feeds on the life force of super powered people! The ending is great, too! And it has one of the best comic book fight scenes I have read in a long time!

If you want alot of action then get Maximum carnage trade. Pretty soon Marvel is going to release Spider-man: birth of venom which could give you the venom satisfaction. Spider-man visionaries John Romita SR is also good for the old school spidey feel. Spider-man Omnibus volume 1 is coming out pretty soon. It collects Amazing 1-38, Amazing fantasy 15, Annuals 1 and 2, Fantastic four annual, and tales to astonish annual. Plenty of spidey action there if you don't mind paying 62.99 on amazon.

Well, if you're looking for loads of action with Spider-Man's most famous & most dangerous enemies from different eras, I can highly recommend the 'Spider-Man's Greatest Villians' TPB. Unfortunately it's out of print now I believe. Still, I'm sure you could locate it on eBay or from an online comic shop.

I always found it strange that Green Goblin was not featured in that.

That was the third ever TPB I got.

Yeah, I'd never really thought about it but you're right, that is weird.

You know, what they should've done is reprinted the hard to find 'The Goblin Lives' story from the Spectacular Spider-Man Magazine issue #2. That may've enticed some of the hardcore fans who already owned all the Goblin's regular appearances in Amazing Spider-Man to pick up this trade.

Did this trade came out after Harry died?

If so, it was probably a marketing thing, devoting space to villains who could still conceivably appear in the books.

SEAN

It came out in 1995, two years after Harry died.
