A little tidbit from Jeff Loeb on an upcoming Hulk project...

In regards to his upcoming Hulk project with Ed McGuiness, Loeb said he told Quesada that it would make the upcoming World War Hulk look like a picnic with his grandmother. Tentatively titled The Strongest There Is, Loeb said that many parts of the story were inspired by McGuiness who wants to show the Hulk doing things that no one has ever done before and establish him as the biggest badass in the world – which, the writer noted, is something that World War Hulk looks as if it will be doing very effectively. “But this,” Loeb said, “Will pretty much be over the top.”

To emphasize his point, Loeb described one scene, where the Hulk is in a knock-down with another character, and, in looking around, sees the Watcher. The Hulk asks the Watcher what he’s doing there, to which the Watcher replies, “I’m watching,” which is answered by a shattering punch by the Hulk, who tells the prone Watcher that he doesn’t want anyone watching him.

I didn't like this Loeb interview. I don't want the Hulk becoming a killing machine.

Plus, what the Hulk can really do against the Watcher?

Hulk no like Watcher. Hulk is privacy advocate. :p

(Actually, Loeb's Hulk story with McGuinnes sounds like a big, rather stupid action story that has nothing to do with WWH. I do find the idea of Hulk punching out The Watcher to be... rather silly.)

Too bad he doesn't say anything about his Young Avengers one-shot.

So? Hulk punching the Watcher should be like Mary Jane Watson punching... the Hulk.

Exactly.

Between Annihilation and this, it does seem like Watchers are having a real tough time lately.

Still, even though I obvioulsy don't believe Hulk is strong enough to beat a Watcher, I think the scene was obviously played off as a joke so I'm not bothered by it.

Nor would I be against to a more simplistic smash mouth beat-em-up Hulk adventure. I liked Civil War, but a few stories that don't try to hard to be political alegories is kind of refreshing.

Loeb is basically going to write the Hulk like he wrote Superman, and while a lot of people are derisive of what he does when he gets a hold of a character (including me, frankly).. the things Loeb is saying now, are the kinds of things he said when he wrote Superman, it's not like this is new. The guy just can't write powerful characters lately without making them "the most powerful character ever", in often rather ridiculous ways that often make people stare at the comic and go "... that was dumb, and a little offensive". It's simply how he writes of late. Be thankful at least Loeb hasn't gone so far this time as to talk about how the powerful character he's currently writing makes all other characters /in the history of comics/ irrelevant and subsidiary. And be thankful Marvel doesn't really have any major female heroes akin to Wonder Woman, because the way Loeb established Superman's not even subtle total domination over her was... kinda creepy and gross and ridiculous.

Basically, if you liked Loeb's Superman from S/B, or Hudlin's T'challa, you'll like Loeb's Hulk.

C'mon... does anyone here really not want to see the Hulk put the Watcher on his smug, "superior" heinie? Hell, I figured most would buy the book just to see that happen. :D

However, I am curious how this will fit (or not) into the current continuity. It is sounding more and more like a one-off. My only hope is that it's not a "Marvel Adventures" arc or some othe kiddie book from the 'Hulk Smash!' era...

Although I might check out the issue where Hulk one punches all three faces of the Living Tribunal. I don't even like two-faced people, so you can imgine what I think of that three-faced jerk.

I'm just saying that because we all know that at the end of the day, Tony will still be SHIELD Director after WWH so worst case scenario there's a couple more giant empty sattelites and a lot more planets in the galaxy ;)

Actually the worst case scenario is that Tony has to pay for another funeral for a fellow Illuminati member. :p

Besides which...

Hulk vs. Earth...

We know how that eventually ends... ;)

As much as I liked the first arc of Superman/Batman, I'd rather have Captain America: Red, White and Blue or the Thing: Orange. :)

I do believe that Tim Sale is still under contract with DC. So you'll have to wait awhile for those books.

Hey too far with the "Marvel Adventures" kiddies books. Marvel adventures comics are great.

I have to wonder though what is up with Loeb he doesn't seem to have a grey area, it's either well written, thoughtful tales like the Long Halloween or it's, I've got to out action everybody just for the sake of it, for example Superman/Batman or his current Wolverine arc.

He's a good writer he just doesn't seem to be trying.

Although Hulk punching out the Watcher.........awesome:D . It could happen the Watcher just stands there no-one has tried to punch him out before.

Amen. Avengers and Spider-man are definitely better books than their "regular" Marvel Universe counterparts right now.

Yeah, actually I think the whole thing is meant to be taken rather tongue-in-cheek....sort of like how Lobo stories affect the DC Universe; Not very much ;)
