I know pretty much nothing about Marvel, so bear with me.
I picked up Avengers Next and read through all five, and now I'm wondering how they fit into the Marvel Universe. I know there is another series running called New Avengers. Are these two supposed to be simultaneous or is the Avengers Next title taking place in the future?
Also, will there be any more of this Avengers Next group or was that a one time thing?
Help a n00b out. :o

Avengers Next is set in the future.
There have been other Avengers Next comics in the past, so you can look for those in back issue bins.
Spider-Girl is the only ongoing title set in that future (often called the M2).
Your guess is as good as mine as to whether or not we get another.

Ahh, cool, thanks. So how far in the future are we talking?
Are you sure about the other series? What was it called, because when I search the databases for 'Avengers Next' only the one 2006 series comes up.

Well, long enough for Spider-Mans daughter (who was born in the late nineties I think) to be in high school.
The series was called A Next btw.

Thanks again. :)
I guess that puts them only about 5-10 years ahead of us now in 2007, depending on how old she is in the book and when exactly she was born.
I'm guessing this series is not liked very much, especially by those who are long-time Marvel readers? It was a bit 'teen'-oriented, but then again, I find a lot of the Marvel stuff I've been checking out is.

Here's the funny bit. She's actually dead for all intents and purposes.
Norman Osbourne took away a bundle after Mary Jane apparently miscarried.
For the purposes of the M2 universe she is alive, for the purposes of 616 she is dead.

More of an omniverse really. There are an infinite number of them.
616 is the main one.
M2 is that future Spider-Girl/A Next one.
Ultimate is another one too.
Zombies...
New Universe...
etc.

Actually, Norman's female assistant during the arc walked out with a baby, and Mary Jane was shown a miscarried baby. We weren't meant to assume she died, but was rather taken away by Norman for whatever evil purposes he has in mind. Pete and MJ are under the impression she died, but readers, at the time anyway, were supposed to believe she was alive and somwhere/somehow under Norman's thumb. But still, your first part, for all intents and purposes, at this time, she is/might as well be dead.

They retcon that by saying Norman had May but it was really Aunt May and that Norman killed Peter unborn Child beacuse he blames Peter for Harry death.
