View Full Version : What Marvel character who never got a shot at their own series would you like to see?

So many classic Marvel characters have gotten their own series or even their own mini series.
But what character who have never had the opportunity to star in their own series - monthly or limited - would you like to see get a shot an why???
I'm gonna start off with one:
Constrictor.
A B-level character but a regular thug with a special costume and weapons. Not really evil but not necessarily good either. Lot's a grey areas to be explored with some choices as to which path he can or should take?

Squirrel Girl. If done right, it would be a great property to market to young girls.
Miss Kitty Fantastico

I prefer Squirrel Girl as she is, child-like but with a touch of dark satire. She could have an ongoing title, but the writer would have to be very carefully chosen - as soon as they fall back on goofiness alone, she's lost her magic. Nicieza (in Cable/Deadpool, and I (heart) Marvel) didn't quite capture her, though he came close.
I'd like to see Joystick get a shot at stardom. She's such a messed up little ball of psycho - read Thunderbolts #102 and tell me there's not enough material in her for at least a dozen issues, I dare you.

Moondragon and Jocasta. Moondragon's Space Adventures would be something to behold, with her superiority complex and her love for the ladies. Jocasta could easily take over the Marvel Universe by interfacing and dominating SHIELD, Avengers, FF, X-Men and Black Panther's computers. She already interfaced with Stark's computers, so it wouldn't be a stretch for her to do the rest.

Moondragon and Jocasta.
Might make an interesting team up book. That's something I don't think any company has really done enough of, buddy books. Marvel's had, what, Captain America and the Falcon and Power Man and Iron Fist? Yeah, Cable and Deadpool, but more often than not, they aren't actually in the book together. There needs to be more adventures of mismatched duos. Like, I dunno, Black Knight and Paladin. Hey, that could be fun, actually. Dane as the more stick up his butt by the books hero, Paladin as more of the freewheeling jerk. And the great moment when it is revealed that Dane always had the hots for the Wasp and she kept turning him down, when Paladin managed to get inside her tiny, tiny pants.

I'd like Thunderstrike to come back...though I have a different storyline in mind for him.
The guy who becomes the new Thunderstrike starts off as a young reporter trying to make a big break in the Daily Bugle. During Eric's last stand as Thunderstrike, as he's turning the power of the mace against the power of the Bloodaxe, our reporter friend is caught in the huge backlash and absorbs the enchantments of both weapons.
When he returns to the Bugle, he rights a killer story that totally buries Thunderstrike. The story is VERY popular, especially with Jameson, but not with the super hero populous. Marcy Steele sues our reporter for liable, but Jonah puts the weight of the Bugle behind our reporter's back, and they crush Marcy. However, as the reporter sits there, listening to witnesses who had been saved by Thunderstrike and super heroes who had been touched by the man that was Eric Masterson, the reporter realizes he's made a mistake.
No longer able to write the "huge" breaking stories, the reporter finds himself battling depression as well as desperately trying to hold onto his job. Just when things seem their bleakest, the reporter visits Eric Masterson's grave...and reads aloud, the endearment on the headstone. "The world still needs heroes." With that, he's hit by a blast of lightning! His overweight short body is replaced by one of rippling muscles, he's become Thunderstrike!!
Whenever the reporter utters that phrase, he can change into Eric Masterson's old magical form...that has been slightly altered since it combined with the Bloodaxe enchantments (the new 'Strike is much stronger...possessing both Eric's and the Executioner's combined strength.) He's got the original Thunderstrike/Masterson Thor costume (since the enchantment kind of "reset" for him) but the colors are reversed...blue cape with a red armor/body suit/costume, and the silver helmet/mask. Mysteriously, everytime he changes, the mace appears with him and acts as it always did for Eric.
The new Thunderstrike's adventures would involve him at first trying to learn all of the powers he now has by reading up old clips of Thor and the original Thunderstrike at the Daily Bugle. Once that storyline is generally done, he meets up with the Steele family and has to sort out LOTS of problems with Kevin Masterson (who thinks the new Thunderstrike is his dad, back from the dead.) Other adventures would include meeting new pantheons and battling evil in its many forms in various dimentions. (Meeting the original gods of the Skrull for example, might be neat. Being introduced to the Greek Gods, maybe fighting a revived Shuma Gorath, or adventuring in a Dungeons and Dragons styled world.)

If we are talking mini series then there are a ton of villains that I think could support an interesting one story arc.
Diablo maybe. The guy lived in a hole for hundreds of years, but has adapted to the present day with barely a mention of this from any writer (to the best of my knowledge).
At the very least he would have gone insane down there.

I actually thought about picking Paladin as well and I see where he was mentioned a few times....he does have some potential as he is another one of those characters that tends to straddle the line with morality
And you are right Dingo - there are a ton of untapped long term villians who deserve a little more attention.

I'd like Thunderstrike to come back...He doesn't quite pass the "never got a shot at [his] own series" test, though, does he?
I've always thought Stingray had a lot of potential. Marvel's undersea setting is underutilized, since it's 99% of the time focused solely on Namor and his pals.

Not a mini, she had two separate one-shot specials, both written by Dwayne McDuffie.
I would love seeing her in a 4 issue-mini that used an A-list creative team, if only to see her take a bigger part in the MU and for her profile to get raised.
Too bad she is generally considered a "lame and boring" character, and her set of powers always scares writers away, since it's allegedly hard to create conflict and threats big enough fpr a character that's uber-powerful...
But an imaginative. solid writer could do wonders for any character.

I doubt it is her powers scaring writers.
Off the top of my head, all electromagnetic radiation is affected by gravity, so put her up against Gravitron.
Smart money is on the fact that she is a black woman that scares writers.

Well, to be honest, part of me doesn't wanna believe that's some of it, but I have always felt that argument has a kernel of truth.
After all, most comic book writers (especially the A-listers) are white heterosexual males, so in a way it's understandable that they wouldn't care about writing a black female.
Or a black man, or a gay man, or a gay woman (unless it's to use her in the stereotypical girl-on-girl thing to titillate fanboys)
But in essence, you are right, Monica could conceivably find good foes in people like Graviton, Count Nefaria, Moonstone, any villain that has access to the Darkforce, any villain that can drain/absorb energy sources, sorcerers, psychics, and cosmic-level threats.
Plus a good writer could create some cool new villains.
Oh, well, maybe some day.
Another character I would love to see in the spotlight in The Shroud and the Night Shift too.

I like this choice - always liked when Marvel used this character - though - would you keep his wife alive or would you have her 'removed' to help expand on the character and allow the rivalry between him and Tiger Shark to be taken to the next level?

I am going to assume the best of them, and say that it is because they know they couldn't do it properly that they don't often try those things.

Anaconda. It'd be nice if there was a semi-obscure female character who isn't exactly the most attractive woman around to get her own mini (though I can't possibly see her ever getting an on-going), just to give her some characterization and some backstory, since we've had only very little. Even just a one-shot starring her would be rad.

If we're counting on-going and not minis, I'd say Black Widow. her espionage background, the fact she seems to have ties to a HUGE number of poeple in the MU, and the fact she is one of the most underrated Avengers out there (don't forget she did lead the team through some of their toughest times and did a good job of it until the Onslaught fiasco, which she can hardly be blamed for not being up to.)
If we're talking poeple who have never had minis either I'd go with Pulsar or Psylocke. In fact, I would not mind a Psylocke on-going either, it would have fit in better right after she'd come back from the dead, but there'd still be plenty to play with. Claremont would HAVE to write it though...:D

The Wonderful Wasp by Sara Ryan & Steve Lieber
Market it as a teen girls' romance/adventure comic, along similar lines to Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane, only with the high-society/fashion world element. And for Zod's sake don't turn her into Paris Hilton with superpowers. Jan has led the Avengers into saving the world on many occasions. She's an original Avenger and an international celebrity. She should be closer to Jackie Onassis with superpowers.

Thundra.
I think she was created as Marvel's answer to Wonder Woman, but with a sci-fi slant.
Unfortunately, we never really learned much about what motivated Thundra -- beyond orderrs from her Femizon queen -- and her attraction to Beg Grimm.

I like the idea of Karma, Angel, Gladiator, and Juggernaut a lot, but what I would really love to see is Longshot with his own series. He could have a Romeo & Juliet type thing with Spiral working for Mojo while still trying to steer away from any actual appearances of Mojo himself. Possibly one or two of the slaves he helped free track him down and ask for help. Maybe Gog comes back or maybe just another Gog like character. It would also be another chance for the surprisingly charismatic Dazzler to appear; could also have appearances of Shatterstar. Unlimited stories through Exiles, and with a catchphrase like "Gotcha!" you can't go wrong.
.....hehehe.... spread....

I'd LOVE to see any of the following (even if only I would be interested in most of them(:
A Constrictor on-going (so, yes, I am agreeing with the original poster), a Stingray on-going, a Scott Lang on-going, a Black Knight on-going (he's had some good minis and there's so muchj potential for a Dane on-goingk you could even bring Sersi in as supporting cast).
I'd also like to see a POWER BROKER on-going (it would be interesting to see him giving out powers whilst avoiding police scrutiny) and an Iceman or Chamber on-going.
That's just a few that immediatly spring to mind, I am sure I will be back with more later :)

Natasha has had an ongoing; it began in April 2010--and didn't last too long (despite her being a rich character w/ lots of potential). Psylocke has been featured in two mini's: a 1997 mini she co-starred in with Archangel and a 2009 mini following her return to the 616 Universe.
My vote for a character who's not previously had an ongoing? I'd probably go with Storm. As she expands into the Avengers and has connections to Black Panther and her long history with the X-Men, there could be some interesting stuff there. She also has some mainstream recognition.
