The third annual STAPLE! is mere days away! The excitement is palpable as we approach our biggest show so far!
We’ve got a weekend full of Stapley events lined up for your entertainment and edification:
The fun starts at 7pm on Friday night with the STAPLE! Meet and Greet at Austin Books & Comics, located at 5002 North Lamar Boulevard. This festive pre-party has quickly become a STAPLE! tradition that sets the tone for the whole weekend, and is a great way to meet your favorite creators in a casual atmosphere at one of the best comic shops in the country. Refreshments will be served.
Then, Saturday, March 3rd, head to the Red Oak Ballroom, on the South side of the Northcross Mall (easiest to enter from Burnet Road) for the main event - STAPLE! The Independent Media Expo! Doors open at 10am and the show runs till 6pm. See more than 60 exhibitors of comics, zines, art and animation! The day’s events will include fiction readings, panel discussions, interviews and animated films! Heaps of prizes will be given away! For a complete schedule of programming visit www.staple-austin.org
While there check out the Articles section of the site for new, exclusive, Quick Questions interviews with STAPLE! ’07 featured guests: Dean Haspiel and Brian Keene. Drop us a line to let us know how you like our site redesign (Uncle Staple thinks it’s spiffy) and what other kinds of content you’d like to see.
The fun continues into the night at the STAPLE! after-party – Fistful of Live Art! Head downtown to Club Deville at 900 Red River for live art by Jim Mahfood, Dave Crosland and the first ever Live Art Battle Royale between local Austin Living Artists and members of the San Antonio Artslam Crew! Music will be provided by 3Deep and admission is FREE!
Well, if you survive all that and are still around on Sunday, check out our friends at The Animation Show, an annual feature-length compilation of the best animated short films from around the world, exclusively curated by Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-Head, King of the Hill, Office Space) and Academy Award nominated animator Don Hertzfeld. Mike and Don will be on hand to MC the two shows at the Paramount Theatre that evening, which are certain to sell out. See more info and purchase tix at www.animationshow.com
Whew! I’m so stoked I cem braely tippe!1! Get your rest in now, and we will see you there!!!
Till then: Make fun, stay dangerous, and STAPLE!
