is this series better than fables? because i find fables a little bit draggy. =/

jack sounds more adventurous than all the other chars in the story somehow.

I wouldn't say it is better, but I would say it's more fun. There is a real wild, anarachic streak in this book in terms of character and storytelling that is kind of refreshing in the day of tightly structured arcs meant for the trade. Caution has definitely been thrown to the wind. You can tell that Willingham and Sturges are having a lot of fun throwing this mess together, and I've had a great time reading it. I'm not so sure I'll feel the same way if this continues until issue 20, but right now Jack is a wild ride that fits the character.

Fables has a lot more substance, though.

I think that Jack is better than the regular series. And, as mentioned, it's a lot more fun.

As for #8, I'll be if my LCS didn't order enough copies. I have it on my pull-list, but by the time they got to my name: *poof*

Fables has more heart, I'd say. But precisely because of that, it's less consistently funny.

As Tony Akins mentioned on his blog, there is a lot of "crack" in Jack, and it's a lot of fun. Jack is not a nice guy, and Willingham and Sturges spend a lot of time getting him in trouble. Akin's art especially his facial expressions are slightly cartoony and fit the feel of the book wonderfully. I really like this book.

It definitely has more action than Fables, and dialogue is a lot more lippy and sardonic. Jack also breaks the fourth wall on a regular basis.

The first issue is up on the Vertigo site now http://www.dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=6711
