...and as the interview included a nice Chen thumbnail of Nova I though; Wonder what it would look like in colour?"; so I coloured it and made it my new avatar! Oh and here's achallenge to other artists. I hope, like the last Annihilation that some of you, like myself, do a few fan arts during Conquest. Keeps us amused between issues!

Good job.

Because of the interview, I'm now starting to get interested in Wraith and Quasar. Kinda sad that Nova won't be the central player. :(

Knowing that Phylla is going to be at the center of the new Annihilation series dampens my enthusiasm for the series. I just don't really care for the character (and this has nothing to do with Wendell). She just came across as really bit&$ in Captain Marvel and left a bad taste in my mouth. Pairing her up with Moondragon who can also act rather unpleasant on occassions hasn't done anything to increase my appreciation for her.

I don't get it. I thought that answer was a joke.

What is Wraith’s role in the bigger picture of Annihilation: Conquest?

GRILLO-MARXUACH: Wraith doesn’t fall into the easy category of “hero.” He’s a man on a mission and his mission doesn’t always jibe with the goals of the [other characters] in Conquest. This is a dark and damaged individual. There are those who want to use him as a weapon, but when you have a character who sees his own goals as being beyond good and evil, he’ll always be a wild card.Awesome! I think this will be the series to watch! Also, I'm enjoying the fact that we have an on-going series to tie-in along with this new mini-series.

Here's some Super-Adaptoid art for those unfamiliar with the villain.

If I'm not mistaken, he appeared as part of the Enforcers when Spider-man debuted his Spider-Armor in Web of Spider-man #100.

Cool.

I'm going to liek this very much I believe. The design for Wraith looks awesome.

The Super Adaptiod actually has some cosmic history. He fought Thing and the Avengers alongside Blastaar and Annihilus in an issue of MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE.

And, of course, he's powered by a sliver of the cosmic cube.

If you need a point of reference, think Amazo from the Justice League cartoon. He was closer to the Super Adaptoid than to his DC namesake.

"...But Quasar is taking center stage much more in this..."

That's nice to hear... it would have been nicer before Wendell died.

What will the reunion between Nova and former teammate Speedball—now Penance of the Thunderbolts—be like?

LANNING: Pointed and uncomfortable

Ha! Get it? "Pointed and uncomfortable"... cause Penance has spikes... they kinda hurt... get it? ...seriously, get it? Comedy gold!!

I’m sure there will be some people who will be disappointed it’s not the old Quasar with Wendell Vaughn in the title role, but I hope they’ll give Phyla a chance and judge the book on its own merits.

I agree completely, I plan on collecting the Nova series and trying out the Quasar mini. I'm excited to see my favorite character's legacy go up against one of my favorite concepts for a villian.

Mr. Gage, I'm a fan.

Gage:

I have to disagree with Satyrquaze on this one. I am up for giving Phyla a chance I am not at all happy with the fact that she will be known as Quasar.

We finally get a meaningfull story centered around Quasar... there is a book coming out called Quasar...no Wendell.

The more I read all the changes of bringing all these characters most people thought unimportant a chance to shine the more dissapointed I get.

And all this talk of the Legacy of Quasar (Wendell)...give me a break. Outside of his own book no one thought highly of Quasar. I don't think Most even knew he was Protector of the Universe...

He had his own book and of all the ones that have died he is the only one chosen not to give a second chance (yes other are still dead but who among them had their own ongoing book?).

These are face value statements. Not what Marvel has planned none save the creators know the answer. But to ask those who truly loved Wendell and shared a connection with him for over 15 years (for me at least) to say hey give this new person a chance...my question to you is...Why didn't you give Wendell a chance? I am not pointing fingers at Gage ... I might be pointing a finger at Andy since it was his decision to replace Wendell.

So with all of Marvel Cosmic being given a second chance to shine in today's market why was Wendell the only one to pay the ultimate sacrifice?

I am not a fan of dead legacies. I want to read a legacy being created.

Everytime I read about the "legacy of Wendell Vaughn" makes me sick to my stomach. I can't help it. I have tried to look beyond this but I can't. he was and will always be my hero and there is no replacing him in my eyes so don't ask me to try. I won't plain and simple. Closed minded...maybe so, but I am very ...very disappointed with this decision.

I am voicing my opinion so please treat it as such. this is very personal to me and I hope people don't treat it as a bashing. It is not intented to be so.

As a big Wendell/Quasar fan this quote interests me. Maybe I am optimistically reading too far into it but "the old Quasar with Wendell Vaughn in the title role" line might allude to the fact that Wendell may return as a non-corporeal mentor to Phyla speaking through the bands, which would at least make me somewhat happy. Best case though would be having them switch places in the marvel universe/negative zone through both the quantum and nega bands. Or even having Wendell return with a re-energized portion of the Star Brand under his control. Of course maybe that is asking for too much at this point. Although a Wendell/Quasar fan can hope!

Phyla may have been bit#$% in Captain Marvel, but she wasn't written that way in Annihilation. Different writer's write characters differently. Superman, Spiderman, Aquaman, etc are not always written exactly the same when other writers come on the titles.

Also, sure Phyla was written that way before. But how many times in real life have you seen jerks grow up to be good people or people who were good in school become addicts, thieves, etc.

Nova is not the same as he was in high school. He is not even the same as he was before Annihilation. Maybe Phyla will surprise many of you.

Love Star Lord's costume, it's very space and sci-fi'ish. It has a cool opening that shows his face which doesn't look as cyborg'ish as he looked in Annihilation. Perhaps he made alterations to keep the cyborg aspects underneath instead of outward. Anyway, looking forward to seeing his return and how he got that way.

I'm not sure whats going on with the Super Adaptoid though, I looked it up on Wikipedia and it's still around eh? Interesting choice of villain for Phyla, I hope they give him a cool costume revamp or just a better looking form.

Looking forward to Wraith and more Nova too, hopefully the art will be good as well.

Hey Aniscape, I totally understand where you're coming from.

Though in fairness to Gage -since he is a pretty nice guy-, I'll probably give Phyla a shot with the first issue. If I'm not impressed, then I won't bother picking up the rest until it's collected in trade. If I do like it, then well... add another thing to my pull list alongside 'The Initiative' (Sorry, morbid curiosity) and 'Omega Flight'.

But really, I do kinda see why some Quasar/Wendell fans are incensed over this. I mean, the character hadn't really been used for some time (save for an appearance near the end of Mark Waid's run on Fantastic Four) and then he reappears all of a sudden and dies just as quickly.

I think one thing most people are forgetting is that death in comics -especially Marvel-... really isn't permanent. Sure, a character may stay "dead" for a few years, but only to be brought back somehow (X-Men is notorious for this, and not just for Jean Grey either. Colossus, anyone?) by a writer who happens to favor that character and/or has plans for them.

I'm remaining optimistic, to be honest, mainly for the aformentioned 'dead doesn't always mean dead' (to paraphrase a 'Runaways' story title) reasoning. Until then, I'm going to give Phyla a little leeway and see how she develops before I make a full judgment on her.

There's a lot of anger and hurt there. Again, I know I've been upset when Nova's comics have been canceled. But at least he didn't die. In most of my posts to Quasar fans, I stated that I felt badly for them. To one fan I mentioned that I felt bad for Quasar but then told him/her to stop whining. I have apologized for that since then. But especially hearing the hurt in your voice, I feel really bad for Quasar fans.

Cyclops is my favorite X-Men. When I watched "X-Men: The Last Stand," I was waiting with baited breath hoping that at the end Cyclops would be the one we found alive. Although I was happy Professor X lived (after a death that would traumatize most children" I WAS TICKED THAT CYCLOPS WAS NOT FOUND ALIVE!

I am still upset with that movie for that. And I know I won't get it, but I am hoping for a directors cut where they bring James Marsden in and re-add him to the movie. Again, I know this will not happen. So I truly understand your pain.

Thanks for the sentiment... I really appreciate it!

As a special treat for the Nova fans on this board I will be posting something later tonight when I get home from work. I'll give you a hint. It has a little something to do with the cover to Nova #2 ;)

I am not saying this to be mean, or insult you or anything. Truthfully, I am wondering if maybe you are taking it TOO personally?

I am a fan of obscure characters, so most of my favorites have either died or disappeared into limbo over the years. I know how it is when you lose one of your favs. Heck, the only two characters that I consider favs of mine that are not obscure, are Jean Grey and Thanos, both of which are currently dead. Sort of. I was also a fan of the Wendell Quasar.

Anyway, I just think maybe you need to step back and realize that in the grand scheme of things, Wendell was just a comic character.

Besides, give it some time. They have acknowledged he has fans, so he will be back one day. Perhaps as Quasar, perhaps not. We will just have to wait and see.

You are right ... I shoudn't be taking it so personally. But it does effect em on a personal level. He was more then just a character I enjoyed. I'm not going into it but Wendell means quite a bit to me more then I can express.

I actually did take some down time to relax a bit as to not let my emotions take the better of me :)

I have a beautifull family and have very little to complain about in real life. This just means a lot to me and this is a place I can talk about it and have great feedback from other readers and the creators at times.

Sometimes my emotions will flare up and I hope I don't offend anyone I am a very passionate person and it is hard to hold the emotions in check at times.

We are all here to have fun in a fantasy universe full of excitement! I am looking forward to Conquest and hope for the return of Wendell one day :)

I just read the link @ Wizard and realized how jaded I am by this whole Quasar thing. Every time I read about what "Quasar" will be doing, I actually get a little po'd....

Weird. Really weird because although I'm a comics guy, I really try not to be a fanboy beyond some fun or relevent discussion, but really this whole thing irritates the hell out of me.

I'm not buying conquest or the Annihilation follow up, and if I ever get the urge to, it'll be when I pick the whole damn thing up out of a deeply discounted bargain bin. Phyla-Vell is not "the new Quasar". That in itself is irritating on so many levels. I thought I was done with the Q-ball discussion on this board too, and then I had to go & read that damn link.

Yeah... I sort of feel the same way.

I frankly wasn't a big fan even before she replaced Quasar. Stupid character origin and franky not the most pleasant character I've experienced. Her replacing Quasar was just the icing on the cake.

Still, I like the cosmic stuff and Super Adaptoid sounds cool. A Phylla-centric story almost gurantess I won't be buying the monthlies, but I'll definately flip through it on the stands. If it's really good, I'll guy the TPB.

I feel your pain. Had Marvel actually killed off Rich Rider (the main character in the first comic I got hooked on when I was 10 years old), I'd be off the Marvel bandwagon. I don't think of Phyla as "Quasar" any more than I thought of Garthan Saal as "Nova". If they want Phyla to wear the Q-bands ... so be it. They then decide to try to improve the potential sales of that comic by grafting the name Quasar on her .... so be it. They make their choices, I make mine. Phyla as Quasar ... my choice = not buying it. The rest of Conquest ... maybe ... maybe not .... time will tell.
