DD #94 - Brubaker and Weeks (and Gaudiano), with an awesome Romita Sr. cover - out today . . .

Basically, it's the last fifty-odd issues from Milla's point of view. If you're going to do a recap/jump on issue, this'd be the way to do it.
Not much happens, but it's a well done piece all around.

Bru is becoming a little hit-or-miss with me. I loved his first arc on DD, Captain America and Sleeper...but this second arc (and everything he's done X-related) has left me cold.
Still, I expect great things out of this book in the coming months.

This just felt like a thoroughly unnecessary fill-in story to me. Not that it was bad, per se, but unlike the Foggy story before the last storyline, it didn't really add anything to the plot or Milla's character particularly. I suppose it was geared towards readers who may have come on when Brubaker and Lark started on the book. I just recently re-read the Bendis/Maleev run, and I was like "yeah, I knew all that." I hope this is not going to lead into another dead woman in Murdock's life for the upcoming anniversary issue, although Brubaker rarely does the obvious. (I place a lot of faith in Brubaker.)
One positive observation, though: Lee Weeks really deserves a regular book, particularly if they couple him with Guadiano.

I think I'll check it out.
I, also, thought it did too much recapping of past events instead of progressing their relationship, but perhaps it was necessary. I don't know. I'm still don't really care too much about Milla. And I'm not so sure I dig Matt Hollingsworth's colors. It's really moody, but it's way too dull. It gets really unpleasant to look at. Especially when Daredevil looks more maroon than red.

I didn't think it is as bad as most people say it is. It's a great jumping on point for new readers who haven't been reading Daredevil. The art and Bru's writing is great as usual. The reason why it doesn't get a perfect score is that the story is about Milla and Matt's love life and past events. I was hoping that there was going to set-up a love triangle between Matt, Milla, and Lily but there's always next issue.:)

As much as I love Michael Lark, I'd rather have Weeks as the penciller. I think Ed and Lee could take the book to even greater heights, and possibly rival Miller's work. With that said, I'm not complaining about Lark and am happy to have him. I wouldn't mind if Weeks was always the "stand alone issue guy" between arcs, since they obviously need to keep a monthly DD schedule. I would be all for Lee Weeks drawing a 4-6 parter to give Lark enough time to string together 12-15 consecutive issues.
This was filler, but it was quality. 8/10

It wasn't bad but for people like me that have read every issue since the Kevin Smith arc started the whole thing up it was kind of a "ehh i guess i'll read it" and kind of speed read the issue. Maybe it kind of foreshadows that there's going to be some relationship issues coming soon especialy since Matt ran into that woman in Paris who smelled just like Karen and she was last seen getting on a plane going to NY. So that can be nothing but trouble for Matt's relationship.

I enjoy when Brubaker embraces old school stuff. The cover was a nice tip of the hat toward old covers, complete with a thought bubble filled with angst. I also like how the text in the caption boxes would start with a red block letter like old comics used to do.

1. I hate Milla, I really do. Come on Bullseye goddamit stop mucking around with the Thunderbolts and come gank her.
Echo/Ninja Skank/Black Widow all make much better relationships, she is just so boring.
2. That better not be Bru's handling of registration, Oh thats Daredevil no we shouldn't arrest him. As far as they know he sided with Cap for the entire damm Civil War.
Iron Man will turn up personnelly with a bunch a Shield Cape Killers, for a group of Teenage Kids, but Daredevil gets a free pass cause he is the Goddam Daredevil.

I dunno. I can see your average cop on the street having a different point of view on certain superheroes (especially the street level type) than the paramilitary types in SHIELD.
Remember the thing with the two cops watching Daredevil beat the crap out of Nitro, a few years back? Same thing, really.

Like I said in an earlier post, I re-read the Bendis/Maleev run last week, and this came up a few times with the FBI and the local cops. The one I remember best was two local cops, one veteran and one rookie, watching a Daredevil fight, and when the rookie says he's going to take DD in, the veteran says something to the effect of 'you try it, and I'll put a bullet in you.' (I'm not sure if it was Nitro or not; getting old.) People in the neighborhood, out in the streets, they respect DD and see the good he does. It also helps that he really didn't have an ongoing media crusade against him like Spider-Man until fairly recently. (I think we can drop that Fall from Grace plot point with the ugly black armor.)

If you're referring to the Runaways as the "group of Teenage Kids", they pose more of a problem than Daredevil. Unlike Daredevil, the Runaways are more powerful and unexperienced. Stark probaly didn't want the Runaways ( or any underaged and untrained superheroes) to be the next "New Warriors" in another "Stamford Accident". Just saying.
ED and Fanboy Stranger have strong points too.

I really liked the old word balloon covers growing up so for me it was cool to see the throwback tribute on DD#94.
When did Marvel, etc. stop doing the word balloons on the covers? Can someone share the history?
Thanks in advance!

Really liked the Romita cover; really was let down by the 'story'. Not that it was Milla, not that it was a 'catch-up/jump on' issue; just that it was so drably done. Spent a pointless amount of time thinking of how it could've done better: Milla in the window could've been Milla wandering the street looking for Matt; Milla pacing her room, even; Milla in conversation on the phone, saying one thing to the listener, saying more, or something else to us-the-readers... but Milla in the window was just too static, too late early morning, yawn...
Milla confronting Matt over coffee the next morning? Saying all the stuff she tells 'us'? Um-hmm-- now there's drama.
But hey-- one (very) slow issue in the past run? Nooooo problem! Next issue, next issue--!

I havent been reading since the begining and i appreciated the unique recap. Although it really is just a filler, it was presented as much more.

This is my first Daredevil issue and I enjoyed it enough to check out the next arc.

I was pretty disappointed.
Partly because it was about Milla, who I find useless. They keep having decent ways to get rid of her, and they keep bringing her BACK :(
Partly because it was a catchup issue, I've read them all, and I don't need a catch up. Actually after a few years I do forget some stuff, but Oddly enough I remembered everything they reminded me of, so it was useless.
Mostly because it killed the momentum. After the last two great arcs. They got the "genie" back in the bottle and I'm ready for some back to basics kick butt Daredevil action! Not a recap of the sucky bendis years. We're PAST bendis, I now want to Revel in Brubaker goodness!
All in all Really looking forward to the next issue.

agree!
I recently went back and reread some DD issues by him - Lee Weeks did some really solid and unique stuff.
