OK, as you may or may not know, I'm currently awaiting some responses from universities regarding applications to study film/media with a sprinkling of journalism or English depending on the institution. I've gotten 3 replies of yes already and am waiting on 2 others.

But this is mainly about the 6th. I have an interview tomorrow in order to decide if I can get in or not and am going in order to keep my options open. I'm sort of excited and also somewhat nervous, as I've not had a stellar track record in interviews. I generally come off well, but lose out on some small point (like conflicting schedules).

This one shouldn't have that, but any advice or preparations I should make? Any qestions I should be looking out for? (Never done a uni interview, only job ones...)

Just make it clear to the interviewer that this (Media Studies) is exactly what you want to do. Why? Because you're interested in...media. You can use that to your advantage by talking about the types of entertainment media that you find particularly interesting, why you find them interesting, etc.

Remember, it's just an interview, not an interrogation. Don't look at it as if you're being brought into CTU for questioning. If the subject of you leaving Law School comes up, just tell them that it just wasn't for you, but convince them that media studies is. (always try and bring it back to the subject)

Btw, you'll be in Ayr Tomorrow yes?

I'll be in Glasgow 'till about 12, but can probably make a bus that should get me to Ayr in a suitable period of time.

It hath been and gone! The interview, that is.
It seemed less of an interview to see if I deserved entry and more a pitch of the programme and campus to get me to accept... The head of the media programme gave me a brief tour of the campus, including pointing out that the other two buildings on campus were the Union and the halls of residence. Yes, it's 3 whole buildings! :D

I got to see the digital editing labs, the lecture halls, the library, the admin offices, the TV and radio studios and mixing suites. The latter of which ws VERY cool! I don't remember being nervous when I saw the law library for my first go-around, but I was nervous here.

I was a little afraid the actual interview portion had crashed and burned when i equated the theory stuff, (media impact on society) with stuff like Wertham, but he seemed impressed... I think. And my questions at the end were lame, but I never know what to ask in these things. Things are looking good though, as he said I was pretty much guaranteed to be getting an unconditional acceptence.

This place is the frontrunner now, I have to say, and it was neck-and-nck before yesterday, so it worked in the pitch sense it seems! :)
