Exterminators is a grim and hilarious comic about an ex con working in pest control dealing with lowlifes and odd ball's residing in LA, science gone horribly wrong, and pest problems that are as improbable as they are frightening. volume one out now with volume two out in March. There is a long list of cool comic coming out right now, but this is the first one you should pick up.:)

Lucifer. Trade four of Sandman is spoiled a bit if you read the series first, but it's not a huge deal.

DMZ is tight. Like *inappropriate underage sexual innuendo self-edited* tight.

Seconding Exterminators. Brilliant series. Its one of the best comics of the last decade (although the late 90s weren't a particularly great time for comics).

DMZ is in two trades right now. Excellent stuff.

We3 is amazing.

I found Y the Last Man a bit flat, I barely finished the first trade. but I am in the minority there. A lot of people find it amazing, its just that nothing Brian K Vaughan seems to blow my mind.

Honestly, its pretty hard to go wrong with Vertigo.

I have to agree on Y The Last Man not being as exciting as many seem to find it. I could only make it through the first two trades.

Ex Machina by Brian K Vaughan on the other hand I'm really digging. It's about a man who gets the power to talk to machines and fails miserably trying to be the world's first superhero. So instead he runs and becomes the mayor of new york. Alot of cool political intrigue and mysteries involving The mayors time as a superhero.

If you're looking for something totally different from the rest. Scalped is awesome. Especially if you like native indian stuff( more like gangster owned casino rather than pranching koala).

Detective Comics is awesome right now, it's basically a one issue- one story deal, like the good ol days. This is probably the only comic that works in this way, and I love it.

if you'd like to zonk out and try reading something crazy then try picking up Preacher. It's really not meant for all. But it's worth a shot. Picture all the crazy things in life you can imagine happening and put them all in the book. Solid characters with a pretty enjoyable plot although like most series, it's got its ups and downs.

COOL!!!

Jonah Hex is a western comic, that apparently is having, or just had, its first three-issue arc, but for the most part, sticks completely with done-in-ones, and it's not bad at all, although I found myself getting bored with it after a while, so I dropped it.

Fell is a great noirish detective comic that is 16 pages per issue (plus extras), and costs only $2 US for single issue stories that are excellently done by Warren Ellis and Ben Templesmith.

Local is a book that follows the development of a character from year to year, location to location, but each issue tells its own separate story. Quite good stuff from Brian Wood (DMZ).

I will recommend another western, Loveless. It takes place after the Civil War(with flashbacks) Tackles racism, treatment of women, life in the Army, love, and revenge. Oh yeah, people get shot, all the time.

The art is very minimal, and extremely effective.

As said, it's hard to go wrong with Vertigo.

But no mention of American Virgin?
