Hey all,

I thought about posting this in either of the DC or Marvel avatar threads, but I'd rather hear it straight for the source. I've recently made my own avatars in Photoshop and reduced them to 80x80 pixels. But the darn files are over the 20kb limit. :(

How do I compress them without losing the details and dimensions of my image?

Thanks in advance. :)

Save them as .GIF or .JPG. Personally I save mine as .JPG.

Yea I saved them as jpegs too, but the file size for my avatars is still just above 20 kb.

Somewhere along the lines of 25 to 30 kb.

Not sure how to reduce them any further though.

Save them as gifs. if you don't want to do that, check the resolution under which you're saving the jpegs. Are you sure they're saving at under 100ppi?

Actually I'm not that sure. I'll have to double check on that. If it is though, I'll go for saving as gifs.

Make sure they are at 72 DPI/PPI and check the type of compression you are using when you save as a JPG.

If you have Photoshop... Go to 'Save For Web' under the 'File' menu.

Go to 'JPG' on the right hand side and then make it around 65 or 70 for compression.

Under 5-7k for me every time.

Haven't had much access Photoshop in a while, so I decided to use Microsoft Office Picture Manager instead. Seems to do the trick just fine.

Thanks for the tips anyhow guys. :)
