some info about the green arrow??

yeah so i'm getting into comics and my favorite is green arrow but unfortunately i know only of what has been told in smallville and JLA Unlimited. so in smallville he owned queen industries, but in JLA he sold it?!?!? i was wondering if anyone can tell me about his background and how he became the green arrow and other stuff that i wouldn't know of by reading Quiver. or does Quiver tell you everything about him?? thanks in advance

Wikipedia is your best bet, but basically th story goes that Ollie was stranded on a deserted island and had to fend for himself, honed his archery skills in order to survive and eventually when he was rescued he went back home and thwarted a crime at some masqurade party he was attending dressed as Robin Hood (or Errol Flynn), the papers announced 'Green Arrow' had saved the day, so Ollie having nothing better to do with his life decided heroism was for him, hence GA came to be.

In canon Ollie lost Queen enterprises to some dishonest buisiness associates who embezzeled the companies money whilst Ollie was too busy playing vigilantee instead of keeping up with the workings of his company.
