First, go to Superman Homepage (http://www.supermanhomepage.com) and prepare to have a seizure.
Then come back here and post your comments.
In one word: Unbelievable. But I don't know what to think about this. Could it be good? Bad?

*Puzzled over the death of Jimmy Olsen*
Why Jimmy? Why? :(
I hope there's a good explanation for this...

What puzzled me more is the explanation Paul Dini had for Jimmy's role in it.

Well at elast he gets offed by joker. Good to see him have a kill thate effects another major character as much as his otherr acts have effected Batman. As a Jimmy fan it's a bummer but as a Joker fan, at the same time, it's totally cool.

Well, I have to say that it is indeed interesting, given that The Joker isn't a part of Superman's rogue gallery.
However, I concur with MaxofSteel: I hope they have a really good explanation for this.

Yeah, I can't think of a good reason to kill Jimmy "Superman' Pal" Olsen...I love the character and always have...I am going into Countdown very cautiously. :(

I hope that DC knows what they're doing. It's not like they can kill him just for the hell of it. It has to be thought out.

He can't die, because secretly, he's still Turtle Boy!!!

Hehehe...
Well, I have to admit that The Wizard cover looks kinda tricky, after you read the Didio and Marts' interview for Newsarama.com.
But then again, if Superman was crying in the teaser image, it must be for a really good reason. That, along with the solicitation text for the first issues of Countdown, and you pretty much can deduce the outcome.

I don't like the fact that they show Superman crying sooooo much...I get that this is going to be very personal for him but come on DC this is the greatest superhero on Earth! I don't have a problem with crying or with Supes crying but it seems that whenever they release an image for their next BIG event Superman is crying...it just annoys me!
But I agree with everyone else, if Jimmy does die it better be for a really, really good reason and not just because a character "has" to die to make this event, uhm, eventful. :D

First they tell us some imprtant caracter will die....then we find out black cannary will finally make green arrow a honest man. Then going back to that pitcure weeks ago....the one on the staue of liberty?
Big Barda and scot free couple standing together. Kyle And Donna standing together past couple and back together. GA and BC apart...that was a short marriage. superman with Wonder woman...were is Lois? why is he so broken up? Not for Jimmy he would not need to cry on Diana's shoulder if he is gone. Or even if his Parents were gone he has Lois to lean on for that.
But if lois is the one who bought the farm [or apears to] Then he just might need a certain amazon's shoulder to cry on!

Yeah, I really, REALLY hope this happens for a good reason, and not just for the hell of it.

Haven't read the latest Action/ Superman issue, but that last paragraph sounds odd to me. Gimme a while so I can catch up.
Yeah, the Wizard cover could be a red herring, but OTOH, it could be the real deal. Something's certain (or at least it seems that way): someone close to Superman will die.

I feel kinda bad that I dont care about Jimmy's death..but I dont, the character has always reminded me of one of those puppies that just try too hard to get you to pet them, and when you finally do they are so excited they piss all over the place.

I understand what you're saying. I guess that it's just that the writers haven't used him enough these last years.

Please stop hinting that.
If that were to happen- I would go totally ballistic.
I could possibly stand losing Jimmy. It would be really sad, but I could stand it. If Lois were killed off....... I don't know what I'd be capable of.

Nope, there were no spoiler warnings at Superman Homepage. Thankfully, one of the mods here modified the thread title in order to add the "big Superman spoilers" phrase (thank you, BTW).
Your thoughts?

Don't worry, I'm pretty sure that what david suggested's not gonna happen.
Perhaps Wonder Woman was there because the pic was Superhero-themed, without including anyone from the supporting cast.

Yeah, although admittedly, she sometimes can be stupid.
honestly...I think it might be time for him to take a dirt nap, I could be wrong but I think it'd be kind of nice to see how Kal reacts to his personal life getting rocked and not being able to do anything without revealing he's Superman while trying to find a way to bring Joker to justice...but I don't think DC would kill off Jimmy, he's one of those characters that are just "in" the Superman Mythos but who knows it'll be a fun ride

I wouldnt want her killed off but I would love Superman and Wonder Woman hooking up. Then they could have super babies it would be an awesome idea and bring some great characters and stories to the DCU.

Folks really shouldn't take covers so literally. Especially those that appear on Wizard.
But can we please go a month without seeing Superman blubbering away?

I know what you mean. But I'm betting someone close to Big Blue is gonna die. And on top of that, during NYCC there was this ad that said: Jimmy Olsen must die!.

I agree if Olsen does die the writers have to take extra pains to ensure it is done in an effective way with maximum impact potential. With that said, why would they choose The Joker to kill him? Does The Joker really need that kind of rub for his character? We get it already...he's an A-list villian, top-notch threat. Why not use a Superman villian that could benefit from some major rub (and have him killing Olsen being realistic)?
That said, I don't believe Jimmy will die. Why on Earth would DC let the cat out of the bag?! Further why would they reveal the possible mystery as to WHO will kill him as well? The Joker may very well be targeting Jimmy in Countdown, but I suspect a bait & switch will be seen....

Smilex I think? And Lois with a paper weight, crushing her skull. with more and more of KC parts beginig to turn up in the present DCU. Could that pitcure of Jimmy be one of the dead in the news room and the others unseen? So if the DCU is leaning towards KC will Lois be getting a paper weight along side the head!

Interesting idea. Really interesting. And what you said is totally true: a Superman villain could benefit from that. The Joker is in the top-villain list already.
And yes, now that I think of it, it's too obvious. Perhaps I got oo carried away by the Wizard cover, the Countdown solicitation text AND the NYCC ad.
But I'm certain that someone close to Big Blue will die.

I don't know. Killing Lois off would upset much more than a handful of Super-fans. Besides, her status in the Superman mythos is too important.

What is the best way to hurt Superman and throw the whole DCU into total chaos? If I were a realy nasty Supervillian [and don't we all have such a fantasy] I would attack Superman by using his own moral code against him!
First Lois must apear to die, her husband and anyone in the DCuU who knows clark and Superman are one and the same must be confinced of this. A really top notch clone will do.
Lot of weeping of couse and hunts for the killer. As for Lois, does the villian tortue the real Lois, abuse her of couse not. She is kept in comfort and safety.
As for poor Clark he is comforted by Diana and after a period of morning a relationship grows between them. In time Love and even a child on the way.
The reader of couse knows all about this. Then when Wonder Woman is as big as a house and Superman is happy once again and the rest of the DCU looks forward to the happy event.
Nasty old me as the Supervillian that I am sends Lois back home in perfect health. Sit back and watch the fun begin.:evilsmile

I think Superman would end up with Lana before Diana, but maybe that's just me being bias. I think they ought to be together anyway. Lois is to...eh.
Interesting idea, though. It takes on something that was done with Manchester Black (when he convinced Superman in his head that he had killed Lois to attempt to get him to break his code and kill him) and adds an interesting twist. No mind-games, but a real body and aftermath that would have to be dealt with as if she was really dead.

Beside you cain't have a decent story with out a good vilian with a great plan! And what a way to screw with Supes head and the whole DCU. Beside we get to see Superman having a affair with Wonder woman and he would not be stepping out on her!
Just imagine Clark answers a knock on the door, a pregnant Diana or even better holding their baby in her arms and Lois showing up on the door step!
