View Full Version : Ron Marzz, my nemesis!
Tony Bedard

Okay, maybe he's not my nemesis, but I keep noticing that his forum has about 100 more posts than mine does, so I guess that means I need to try harder here!
So my new goal is to surpass Ron's posts. I can't do it without your help.
So, uh...let's talk about something.
Unfortunately, I can't talk about most of what I'm working on right now since DC hasn't announced much of it, but I'll find something to yak about...

I'll help. I'm curious to know if you will be working on an ongoing monthly or just one-shot/mini-series for DC.

Well, it's sort of ongoing and yet it's definitely got an end-point...and it definitely comes out regularly...
Actually I have a bunch of stuff bubbling up at DC. An upcoming issue of JSA CLASSIFIED that is really gonna open your eyes to what a great artist Dennis Calero is.
There's a 4-part BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL story with art by Rags Morales that reintroduces a cult-fave Batman villain, the Wrath!
There's a 4-part cosmic tale that I hope will please NEGATION fans!
there's a 4-part mini-series featuring one of DC's greatest heroines that will tie into a very big DC event this year. And the art by Paulo Sequeira is to die for! I haven't been this excited about an artist since I met JG Jones back in 1995.
I'm definitely keeping busy...

I liked Calero on X-Factor. I was probably gonna check this out!

This is a must have. Rags spoke about this on Newsarama a few weeks ago.

HUGE Negation fan, probably the biggest. Here's hoping the words Corps and Green are involved. Doesn't matter though, I'll still be there.

Hmmm. Not familiar with Sequeira. Couldn't Google much on him, some Avatar work. Looking forward to hearing more about this.
Too bad Marvel let you walk though. Their loss...

Hey Tony, with you & Starlin working Cosmic DC you might finnaly get me to pick up some DC books.
I just Picked up the Dreadstar HC from Dynamic Forces, very nice. Jims Dreadstar was almost as good as your negation ( his seemed to lose focus over the nd year while Negation never lost seem.)
Route 666 question, how did Tanner relate to a Lawbringer. Was he supposed to have been a creation of the adversery??
I loved issue 16 with Tanner making that guy drink gas to save his kid, or issue 18 with the scene in the bar, or russia when he stuffs the guy in the trunk
great stuff, who was the good dark spirit shown in 18, I forgot.
PS Route 666, was up there with TOD as my favorite horror comics

It's been a while, but as I recall, Tanner was simply one of the more powerful demons from Perdition, like Byleth. But he was a bit more independent, and may have eventually helped Cassie. I don't completely recall the gameplan with him.
The good Dark Spirit was the hobo serial killer with the straw hat who appeated around issue 5 or 6...I'm trying to recall his name. His "killer name" was Railsplitter, as I recall. He had a twisted but real loyalty to Cassie.
And put me down as a fellow DREADSTAR lover! That book had a strong impact on me, as did NEXUS.

Hey Tony! Just wondering... do you have any idea/input into whether the Crossgen Universe will ever publish new stories again? It just kind of suddenly ended...Thanks!

You want to discuss something? Okay. Why spell Marz with two zees?:D
Why don't you put an updated list of titles you have coming out and when in your signature?
Tony Bedard
02-18-2007, 10:12 AM
1-I doubt seriously that new Crossgen comics are in the works, or ever will be. Don't mean to be a wet blanket -- just being realistic.
2-I spelled Marz with two z's simply as a typo. For some reason, my keyboard often double-types the letters on the end of the left side. I feel a bit silly about it, but you get the point, right?
3-My scheme is working! As of this moment, I have about 90 less postings than he does. We're closing the gap, people!
4-I'm still waiting for Ron to even notice that I'm gunning for him.
5-List projects in my signature, huh? That's slightly difficult since most of my projects haven't been announced yet, but I'll see what I can do.

If you don't mind me asking Tony are you exclusive to DC now?

Since Marzzzz is your nemesis, who wins in an all-out brawl between the characters that you've written and the characters he's written? :D
Team Tony:
Turok
Magnus
Solar
Rogue
Spider-Man
Blink
Longshot
Supergirl
Captain Marvel Shazam
Team Marzzz:
Ion
Hal Jordan Green Lantern
Thor
Silver Surfer
Arywn
Witchblade
The Phantom
Batman
Ethan from Scion
Hmm... I think Team Marzzz probably has more heavy hitters...are there any obscure big guns you can add to your team??
Tony Bedard

I'm pretty sure Team Marzzzzzzz winzzz.
He had Thanos, too!
I had Solar, Charon and his Lawbringers, but those Valiant and CrossGen characters don't pack the universally accepted prowess of the Marvel & DC guys.

Oh, such a clever ploy to catch my post total! This is a cheap tactic to boost you post count, and I'll not be a party to it. Not one more post will come from...
...aw, dammit! Lured into your cunning trap!
(Hope all is well, TB!)

Ha! I've narrowed it down to nearly an 80 post deficit, Marzzzzzzzzz.
I popped over to Orlando last night and saw many fine folks, like McNiven, Morry, Perkins, Jimmy & Amanda, JG Jones, John Smith, etc. It was really pleasant.
MegaCon is going strong! I didn't attend the actual con, but attendance is actually up, and Beth Widera looked great.

Hey Tony!
I really enjoyed your JSA Classified work. What do you think of the Johns/Eaglesham main book currently?

As for the new JSA series: so far, so good. Johns loves and all but owns these characters, and it's nice to see Eaglesham have such a great gig. I've admired his work since he did a little ETERNAL WARRIOR back when I worked at Valiant.

Tony,
Since you want posts, here goes:
How much Valiant work did you do?
I only ever got a few of the issues(probably the shiny ones given how young I was then) when they were on the shelf back in the early 90s, but given my love of shared universes and what not, people always tell me that I'd probably really enjoy a lot of the things they were doing.
It's a pretty big project to start tracking them down though. Do you think I'd have to go for a lot of series at once, or should I try tackling one at a time?

Matt, If you wanna read Valiants, stay the hell away from ones I wrote. No kidding, they suck! I had no clue what I was doing back then (and have only the foggiest notion nowadays). I'd encourage you to find Shooter and Windsor-Smith's SOLAR story, and also check out Windsor-Smith's ARCHER & ARMSTRONG. The original Shooter run on X-O MANOWAR was also excellent.
Ron, if you're reading this, your X-O with Bart was pretty snappy, too. Honest.

Now I DID buy the Acclaim stuff off the shelf a few years later. That was such a great launch with good writers on every title.
I'll try to track down those three titles. Thanks.

Last night I dreamt about my friend, Ron Marzzzzzzzz...
Ron, if you read this, it's a true story.
I dreamed that I was on vacation in some sort of theme park that had a lot of Mayan-influenced architecture. Ron was there, and I learned he had a superpower: he could transform himself into a toddler. It seemed strange, but I just sort of accepted it. Then Ron toddled up a steep set of stairs on the front of a Maya pyramid. I had a bad feeling about it. Sure enough, he lost his footing and fell. It was sickening to see him bounce down those stone steps. I ran to him but he was dead. I woke up wanting to cry.
What does this mean? I think it has to do with the fact that I'm a father and that failing in my ressponsibility to protect a child is my worst fear. But why Ron? I certainly don't think of him as a child. Maybe it's because he's a fellow dad and I know his family? I don't know. And why the Mayan imagery?
It's a mystery, folks. A mystery...
