View Full Version : The Thing/Hulk Fight History

Well, it seems that these two have had quite a few battles and while it doesn't seem Thing comes out victorious, I hear varying accounts. One part says he does well and others say "Hulk destroys him like he does every other time." I'm trying to find the truth as I'm becoming a large fan of the Thing.
So, scans of the fights or reports of the issues with them fighting be appreciated. Also, in your unbias view, how do the fights between them tend to go? I know Hulk has varying levels of power...so I guess the higher up he goes, the more outlcassed Thing gets.

I love the Thing, but unfortunately he rarely wins.
FF 320 is the issue where you could say he won, but the story continued in an issue of Hulk, where Ben spontaneously went stupid. Really stupid. Really, really stupid.

Ben's winning report isnt really worth mentioning...anyway
I loved three.
1. FF 25-26
2. FF 112
3. I think it was FF 326. When Hulk was grey and the Thing was the leader of the FF and had the extra bulk.

I'm Pretty sure it was 320.
326 was the one he turned back to a human.

The problem always seemed that Thing didnt have the stamina to keep up with Hulk. Why Hulk just kept going Thing got tired.

Actually the reason that the Thing/Hulk fights are always so good is that Ben has great stamina. He never, ever gives up (when Stan and Jack wrote him anyhow).
Between that and the fact that his skin makes him more invulnerable than other bruisers, Thing/Hulk fights are often the best. Ben just keeps on coming at Hulk, which means we get to see him get angrier and angrier, which is what we all want to see.

Hulk, at base and a little above, is not so far above Thing in strength. Angrier Hulk gets...well, the gap just widens. Plus Thing's apparent lack of a healing factor or regen (had scars from Wolverine's claws for a very long time) seems to give Hulk a definitve edge.

Actually, Hulk at base is below the Thing
Base Hulk is level 70, Thing is level 85.
To take this back away from the edge of rumbles, strength levels are pretty irrelevant if a story is written well.
A character has so much more to them than just what they can bench press.

Agreed.
I always find myself always wanting the Thing to win at least one of the fights with Hulk but it rarely happens even on Thing's best day.

Well, even on that Hulk site, amidst there good lot of fights, they only judge 5 of them having decisive winners.
I think a lot of people want Thing to win. He s the underdog and he's the guy with the heart.... It's like Rocky vs. Drago in Rocky IV.
Someone needs to find Ben a theme and call it "It's Clobberin' Time!" and you'll see him ripping apart every brick on Marvel Earth. maybe even give him a training montage. :):)
Seriously though...it pains me that a lot of people simply expect every Thing/Hulk encounter to end in Hulk pounding him into rubble.

Has Colussus had any fights with Hulk?
Colossus and Thing pounding the Hulk would be sweet.
Also you notice they gave Juggernaught the means to go back to full power.
Sentry, Wonder Man, Thing, Colossus, Hercules, Captain Britain, Iron Man, Juggernaught.
vs
The Hulk.

no, but Colossus did go against Juggs once, and despite he put up a great fight (although hilarious...Colossus was drunk and caused Cain's fiance to run away..hence the fight), poor Piotr ended on the ground
problem with Hulk is that his strenght is basically unlimited. The more you piss him off the stronger he gets...thats why he's always to win
in fact the Abomination is stronger than him, but his strenght isn't unlimited..same with The thing

Well it is a Hulk site. I think it's cool cause it shows how many times Hulk's fought a bunch of people. A LOT.

True but Leader's Lair does tend to twist things a bit. Interesting enough, though I can think of at least one more time off the top of my head where Thor took Hulk- when Odinforce Thor beat Hulk AND Thing in unarmed combat, losing an arm and an eye in the process.

I got a question. According to someone I was talking to, they said Hulk one-shotted Thing recently in
between 534 and 538
Is this true?
I hope there was some clear PIS behind it.

did Hulk ever fight his cousin?
The Anti-Existence

The fight was full of PIS.
Thing had just fought 98 other villains.
And no, Juggs did NOT knock Thing out. Thing was knocked down but as Cain walked passed him, Ben tripped him and then Juggernaut was teleported away.
I also think Thing was a bit cocky, having been amped to complete the 99 villains task and wasn't fighting tactically.
Admittedly, Classic Juggernaut would beat Thing because all Thing has is physical force and it's not enough to do much to Juggernaut, but he would not get knocked down by 3 punches normally. He's fought people just as strong as Juggernaut before and lasted longer than that.
That was their one and only encounter as far as I know. And the circumstances around it really call it into question, in my opinion.

Ah once again , someone cleared things up before me!
Good catch tho.

did Hulk ever fight his cousin?
Just a little bit before Avenger's Disassembled, Jen lost control over he alternate persona, but this was triggered when she was afraid, not angry.
Bruce happened to be there, and he hulked out. They both went practically to "Savage" levels, and it took most of the Avengers to pry them apart.

I think I remember the professor Hulk fighting Juggernaut and getting whooped! Something like the Juggernaut was disguised and beat on him. In the end though he Hulk unleashed some kind of psychic power or something and won. In issues 400 something.
btw-Hulk would pound the crap out of Collosus with one arm tied behind his back, heck maybe both.

Well, that's obvious. Class 100 Colossus doesn't exist for a starters and like a person I know said, Piotr's steel gives him more invulnerability than Thing, but he would never fair as well as Thing in any fight against Hulk.

I think it was IH 402-404, definitely in that area, though. Gary Frank was just taking over the art chores on the book from a few rotating artists after Keown left. Juggernaut and a bunch of super-villains are working for some kind of Secret Empire down in the Amazon, and the Hulk and the Pantheon go in to investigate. Juggernaut does pound the snot out of the Hulk, but some machinery allows the Hulk to attack Marko mentally. (Juggy was in civilian attire.) Also, the genetic experiment named Piecemeal escapes from the "Secret Empire" and is later discovered by Madman over in Loch Ness.
Man, I had almost forgotten how good IH 400-425 were. Definitely the highlight of David's run.

Yeah thats it. Those issues were pretty cool. I was pissed that Keown was leaving. Then I saw what Gary could do. Guess he is going to be back on the Hulk. I see he has been a co-penciler on some of the latest issues. Its funny cause I can tell what he drew in those.
