Nearly not.

They better not be talking about Savant and Creote because we all know they are straighter than Adrian Paul and Manfaye combined!

Regardless of Pedro and Me I'm not quite sure how thrilled the gays are with Judd's inclusion, however...

Anyhow, congrats on your near homo status, does that mean you get half a toaster?

White Rose! How awesome would that be? :p

Way to go, Gail.

Looking at that list, though, I'm a little shocked. Freedom's Ring only got third place in the "mistreaded queer character," losing to Northstar. Boo fuckin' hoo! He's just a zombie. Freedom got it in the no-no bits.

The Authority's Apollo is a lesbian?

Evan Waters
02-08-2007, 09:53 PM
What does that mean, anyway?

EDIT: And vaguely on-topic, is there a list out there of openly gay comics creators? It's something I've been curious about for a bit- up until just recently I couldn't name one.

Personally, if I were fully queer, I would be ashamed of Heinberg. But that's just me.

What does the gay community have against Winick, anyway? I admit that I am a Winick supporter, and I don't get the whole loads of hate dropped on the guy. But what specifically does the gay community have against him?

Try Prism Comics (http://prismcomics.org). You'll find a rather extensive list in the "Profiles" section.

I think these are just the nominations? Don't think the numbering means anything yet.

You're only NEAR queer?

See, if only you had beat up Busiek for the rights to "rainbow raiders"
and made them a troupe of drag queen villains; you'd have been a shoe-in.:D

Does this mean you can only drink near-beer and use pink rectangles?

I don't know what it means but for some reason I am more delighted by this than some of the award nominations for my work!

God I hate the word "queer" with a fiery passion that I normally reserve for men I have dated.

But congrats on the nod.

Nothing, really. A small minority feels that the extremely poor quality of some of his "gay storylines and characters" have been more harmful than helpful to the gay community. However, I'd guess most people are ambivalent. For me, having crappy gay characters and storylines is one of the ultimate forms of diversity!

Well I don't hate them until after I have dated them. At which point I try my hardest to poisen them.

Huh. Actually didn't know that about Heinberg. Sorta puts a new spin on the infamous letters' page debates in YA.

Congrats Gail!

(And should Catwoman really count? Bru was the one who brought Holly into the series and that was years ago.)

Phil Jiminez, the guy who's writing WW now, the writer/artist of Blankets is gay IIRC.

I'm sure I'm missing others but those are the only gay creators I can think of.

I'd assume that's what the 'out' creators category refers to, so add Andreyko.

I know someone already posted a the best source - but a couple of you are still listing gay creators so I'm going to re-post the link

Go to Prism Comics (http://www.prismcomics.org)

Its a great site listing all of the out creators plus out industry folks.

I personally serve on their advisory board.

I forgot the most important part - Congrats Gail!

Writing about ninjas does not make you a ninja. However in this instance writing great gay, lesbian and bisexuals charaters does make near queer!

For all of the work we do advancing equality, its not possible without the support of friends and family.

When I was a young kid, I devoured comics, magazines, books and media for stories that told me I was normal.

You have a unique position as a writer to in influence and inform. I know its art not agenda. But you have created a diverse group of characters which includes positive images of gays and lesbians. Thank you.

As easy as it is to be mad at Heinberg for his late comics, remember that he's involved in one of the most awesome shows on TV, Grey's Anatomy. I've long forgiven him for the late comics because of my love of that show.

The really annoying thing is that when the comics come out, they're always really good. It's easier to forgive, almost, if they sucked, because you wouldn't be looking forward to it so much.

There's no way Young Avengers is going to be out on a regular schedule, is there?

Writers like Heinberg should really only take on comic projects that can afford to be late, rather than in-continuity monthly titles. As long as they do that, I don't think the lateness is a huge issue. It's not like the guy isn't working.
