View Full Version : Best hosting for Webcomic?
Hi all. I've been looking around for hosting specific to webcomics. I really need to ask, who do you guys use and what are the pro's and con's of each? I'd ideally like someone who I could send my files to[since I've finished my webdesign] and have a custom, self-designed page to go with my own work. What kind of storage do they offer, is it anything substantial?
Of course, free is better and I'm looking at bi-weekly updates. So update times will need to be flexible for special seasons.
need some input because the infrastructure needs to go up.

Well, currently I'm using Comic Genesis: http://www.comicgenesis.com
Most of the cons relate to initially starting up, since the procedure is largely unchanged from the time it used to be called Keenspace, so there are a few bugs here and there. One thing of particular note is that you have to wait a couple of days before you can finally start working on things (mostly a security procedure to ensure they're not spammed), but once it's up and running the system is mostly automated. The only things you need to worry about are making your site pretty (usually through HTML), keeping the comic good-looking (I'm still having trouble with that one. ^_~), and making sure that uploaded comics follow the paging system outlined on their help pages.
Oh, and the best part is that it is, of course, completely free. ^_~
The construction bit is not an issue, as is the graphic layouts. The 2-day thingo isn't either so I guess its alright. I'd like to have some more input for this though.

I use WebComicsNation (http://www.webcomicsnation.com), and I haven't had any problems at all with them. I would go so far as to say that I like them quite a bit. They have two ways to do it, the free version and the pay version. No bandwidth charges either way, but on the free version you can't put advertising on your pages or use their Swapmeet online store. I use the pay version, as they've just added the free version within the last few months, and I've been there longer than that.
Anyhow, check it out, poke around, consider it.
