The trade is called "Times Past."
It's their fight against Rag Doll. But the story doesn't take part in the 40s, Allan Scott mentions Batman as "one of the newer heroes." This is already an aging JSA briefly before they went into Limbo.

Oh, and it was # 11 of the Starman series if you're looking for the individual issue.

By coincidence, I'd re-read it last night.

One of the points of the story was how much the DCU had changed, how much darker and more violent the villains had become since the Golden Age. Good reading.

I loved that arc too. Especially because it was sort of a precursor to the darker and more violent DCU. But also because it showed that even golden agers like Ted Knight/Alan Scott/Jay Garrick were capable of using lethal force if necessary. I felt it was fantastic bridge between the two ages of the dcu.

IMO James Robinson's Starman series was one of the single best runs of a comic I ever read. Despite being a bit heavy on the prose at times, it was still some excellent and moving writing.

If you like the Times Past stories, you should also see if you can find the Talking with David story when David introduces him to a bunch of dead heroes. The portrayal of the Red Bee in particular was great.
