What changes would you like to see for future Corries?
And please don't say bring back the "negative" awards. We've been through that over and over.

Have an In Memorial Corrie for any posters who have passed away. It would not be voted on but everyone can make sure any posters who passed away are remembered with one.
This year ALOT of people voted for Lonewolf in the most missed catagory and I think if we would have had a memorial catagory most would have voted for someone who might actually come back and start posting.

But the Most Missed award is named after a deceased poster in the first place. Do you mean re-name it too?

Or add another one for posters who have a chance to come back when they see they are missed?

How about a whole bunch of forum/group of forum specific best poster categories.

Something like that would be more appropriate within the individual forum itself, I'd think, and up to the individual moderators. The X-Books forum has always had its own poster recognition. And the Community forum already holds forum-wide Citizen of the Month and Year awards.

As sad as this sounds, I think Corries have more prestige.
And I am not sure what makes this any less appropriate.

How about a comic Corrie for best Comic Strip Reprint? There's a ton of stuff that's been coming out these last couple years, just this last year we've gotten or are getting Popeye, Peanuts, Gasoline Alley, Krazy Kat, Terry and the Pirates, Dick Tracy, Mutt & Jeff, Dennis the Menace, Pogo, Steve Canyon, Our Gang, Betsy and Me, and others. I figure they'd get lost in the Best Reprint of Older Material category.
But they are deserving of a Corrie!

I'm not sure about a memorial award as such. I like the idea of naming existing awards after past luminaries, like Scarlet Rob and Goblin Queen.
But I can't think of any candidates for renaming at the moment.

At the risk of sounding like a heretic, I think the Forum and Poster Corries have outlived their usefulness and should be dropped altogether. Originally conceived as a celebration of our community, the awards have steadily devolved into a yearly reminder of the all too real devisions within that community. The last couple of years, it's been the same thing: Comm Boarders vote for Comm Boarders, Rumblers vote for Rumblers, YABS folks vote for YABS folks, etc. And only a tiny percentage of posters vote at all.
I say this as a multi-Corrie winner so it ain't sour grapes, people. The Corries are a farce. Let 'em die.

I'd like to see the return of some of the more fun comics Corries. Nothing wrong with the current crop, but I miss stuff like "Favorite Supporting Character" and "Best Comics Moment." Sure, it's fannish, but these are fan awards.

I wish I could disagree, but I can't. How many votes were their last time? 50? 60? Even assuming that those 20k posters we have, half are lurkers or spammers, that's not even 1%.

I completely agree with Kurt on the Forum ones. It's the same thing every year, and the board with the most traffic wins. I hate to lose the Poster ones, though. Maybe that's just nostalgia talking. They haven't been quite the same since we lost the fun categories.
On the other hand, dropping both of those could clear up enough administrative time to allow for adding back in some of the awards Michael is talking about.

I was thinking sort of the same thing. Really, it would probably be good for CBR to focus more on comics and less on the people that make up CBR. We already have CotM and various things along those lines.

Hmm maybe I'll run a poll to see what to keep and what to get rid of in terms of categories.

Maybe awards/recognition for posters within each forum? It seems the community has outgrown the name "Corries."
I like Michael's idea too, although recently I tend to read comics that have been in print for awhile so I'm not up to date.

No offense, but this kind of pandering is why I think a lot of people seem to be calling for an end to the Corries.
In the meantime, I still would like to see the Corries continue. It's an interesting guage of what people think about comics and posters.

Dude its an online vote. Its nothing really. Its not like im winning an Oscar or Grammy here. I enjoy them for that they are. Those who call for the end of them make me wonder.... why ?

I agree on some points. The forum corries should end or be folded into the poster corries. Of course rather than prush that they end I'd recommend the posters be open to visiting all of CBR and push them to make votes beyond their respective boards instead of "Yabs posters voting for Yabs " "Comm people voting the same..." ect ect.
I'd hate to see them die to be honest.

Excellent. I think it's a great idea to have the community as a whole (or at least that segment that bothers to vote) decide what the Corries are going to be, rather than that being decided by the mods with a small bit of input from the CBR membership..

I'd like to suggest altering the Poster Corries slightly before eliminating them. Personally I think they're kind of fun even though I too have noticed the cliquey divisions over the last couple years.
I don't know what to change exactly but I was thinking that eliminating the 2 part process that begins with nominations would be a good start. Instead of everyone nominating somebody for each award and the top nominees being voted on, I tink we should just stop the vote with the nomination process so that voting is completely write in.
My reasoning being that over the last couple years I've noticed what happens is that the 3 or 4 nominees for each award end up being from 1 of the 4 major poster groups here on CBR. YABS, Community Forum, Rumbles, or the X-Boards. When that happens, generally speaking, YABSers vote for YABSers, Rumblers vote for Rumblers, etc. And thus the result is usually just based on which group voted the most. I've even see people campaigning on the chat threads for everyone to go vote for their fellow (choose board of choice)'ers.
Having everything just be write would ensure the person with the most votes got the award rather than the person from the largest group. That may sound like the same thing and maybe it is, but I'm certain there are examples where for one category or another there were, let's say 2 Comm forum members nominated and 1 X-boarder. The X-boarder is going to win almost every time, because the Comm votes are going to split. Even though both Comm forum members may have recieved more nominations.
Does that make sense? Maybe it doesn't. But I'd rather think of some way to fix the problem with the voting rather than just toss all the Poster Corries out. Yeah, its basically a popularity contest, but I still do think its rather fun. Especially for newer posters.
It may already be, but I'd also like to see the kind of campaigning I mentioned above be dissuaded. And maybe to further ensure no bandwagoning make the votes private ala sending ballots via email or PM. I don't know. Just figured I'd toss some ideas out there.

Agreed. Personally, that's why I've never participated in The Corries. (at least, I don't think I have if memory serves me as far as nominating and voting on someone) It just seems like a popularity contest to me. Certain cliques vote for certain cliques, and if you don't fit into any of them, you don't get nominated or voted for. (It's like high school all over again. At least to me anyway.)
I enjoy nominating and voting for the monthly COTM awards instead. Stuff like that is ok, I guess. Although that seems to be a popularity contest too sometimes. The same cliques tend to vote for each other in that too sometimes. (again, at least to me anyway)
I think that's why I go out of my way to nominate folks for the COTM who aren't in the usual "cliques" on here, or who aren't the most "well known". To try and show appreciation for all members, not just some, or the for the most popular.
Anyway, just my two cents.

I missed drama years ago, didn't I
Depends.
Some of us just saw it as comedy gold when some people went out of their way to prove why they got the award they did.
When the winner of 'Drama Queen Award' chucks a tanty, and the winner of the 'Me, Me, Me' award starts a big thread talking about their life to show how they aren't just focused on them self, it's a recipe for hilarity.
Everyone else just took it in the spirit it was given - fun.

I'm not on here often enough to really consider myself a member of the community, and I've never voted in any awards before.
When do people vote for these "Corries?" If you want to vote for comic awards do you have to vote for poster awards? I read a lot of comics and have my opinions on those, but I don't really follow CBR posters closely enough to have opinions about them.
No offense.
