I'm sick of the usual flowers and chocolates route.

Anybody have any better ideas?

Money is no object, but keep in mind I'm not Bill Gates.

If money is no object...how about a trip somewhere?

Candlelit dinner at a fast food joint.

Pick her up in a limo, or at least a clean car, have her dress up nice, go to the fast food joint of your choice, place a tablecloth, candles, flowers, etc. on table. Have a server (all pre-arranged) bring out food you have previously dropped off. (You don't expect her to eat the swill at Arby's)

Bonus points for romantic music playing as well.

You have two options, depending on your girlfriend:

1. If she's practical:
Make a list of all the tasks your significant other does in a day, and find something that would make life easier for her. For instance, I'm a writer. My desk was falling apart. For Christmas, the husband ordered a new desk from Staples and spent hours putting it together. And it's an awesome desk.

Probably your SO doesn't want a desk. But there's something she's been wanting very, very much and denying herself and would make every single day easier for her. And she considers it an indulgence and she's trying her best to make do but she'd swoon if someone brought it to her door.

2. If she's romantic.

Seriously, jewelry. But it's gotta be GOOD jewelry, it's gotta be unique. Doesn't have to be expensive but it has to be something that shows you know her taste. Tall order, yes?

Just remember what kind of jewelry she wears all the time and try to personalize it. I love pins, I love my kids. For another Christmas, the husband had a gold pin of a boy and a girl made--their eyes were their respective birthstones.

Other ideas: a day spa, a massage...

Basically, women like to know that their men have been paying attention to what they like. If you get them chocolate, it had better be their favorite candy, not a generic heart, for instance. Ditto for flowers--roses don't cut it, unless she loves them. Find her favorite.

Also, grand gestures. Sending her something at work is always good. Then she can brag to everyone about it. This gives you mucho points.

Anyway, hope that triggers something for you.

Start a tradition.

Nick calls me his "boo-bear". . and every Valentine's day, I buy him a different crystal bear from Waterford (he's got a Polar Bear, a Winnie the Pooh, and a Grizzly Bear).

this year he's getting a Waterford Teddy Bear (which was actually bought for our Anniversary, but he's getting it for Vday).

of course, Nick really likes crystal. . .so try to start a tradition w/ something she'll like.

good luck, and have fun shopping!

I've been told the guy doing household chores without being asked is a great mood setter.

My lady and I are going to re-live the first day we met, our first kiss … and then top it all off by seeing ‘Hot Fuzz’ – gigglicious new flick by the peeps who did Shawn Of The Dead!

There's probably not enough time, but some artists (and even art students) offer to turn photographs into paintings ore pencil drawings. You can take a photo of the two of you together and have it turned into art.

breakfast in bed.

And continue the pampering throughout the day...

then a nice dinner, then take the poem you wrote earlier in the day out from your pocket, read it to her/him.

go home, watch a good romantic film, the sweetest thing maybe?

bedtime(night activities then)

Sound Good?

Flowers and chocolate not your thing?

Go for lube and condoms. It's a sure winner.

The guy next to me at work is getting a vasectomy done. Seeing love like that makes me well up, I'm not kidding.

Try finding a real human heart, put it in a box, along with a note, saying
"I <Heart> You."

Wait--never mind. That didn't work out well the last couple of times I did it...

In all seriousness, I would LOVE that as a Valentines day gift.

No, he has his ears covered and is singing "I'm a little teapot" as loud as he can.

This year I am thinking of taking a flamethrower to deal with any couples I might run across.

Okay, here's a real easy one that I wish my last boyfriend had thought of - do not dump her on Valentine's night after the romantic meal.

OR send her a text message on her cell phone at 2 AM Valentine's Day to break up with her.

Really poor form, and I don't think my ex fully understands WHY I won't get back together with him.

Give him a vasectomy as a gift! He's sure to get that heartwarming message of thinly-veiled disgust!

One year back in college I setup a romantic meal on the top of a secluded parking garage. I even had friends serve us as waiters.

Oh wait.. you actually have a girlfriend.

I remember freshman year my roomate's friend shared his Valintine's Day tradition with us. Watching 'Rocky', alone.
