Woo! It's been a while since I've got so many comics in one week, so I figured that I'd share. Feel free to do the same:

- Fell #7 - really good issue. Not the best one, but still really good. The art is spectacular, and the whole thing cost me $2.40 Canadian! Why the hell isn't everyone getting this terrific done-in-one?

- Shazam!: The Monster Society of Evil #1: Not mind-blowing, but still very good, and completely appropriate to the characters of the title. Not only that, but you can actually see where the story is going. How about that?

- Detective Comics #828: A pretty good read overall, but I think that I'll probably be dropping this title, as I find that I never feel the urge to re-read the issues.

- Action Comics Annual #10 - Meh. It had some good bits, but no real coherent story to carry it for me. When I pay a bit extra, I expect something more, although the Mon-El story was pretty good.

- Dark Tower #1: Ugh. No thanks. The art is pretty but I've literally read this exact same story before, and it doesn't seem like, at least indicated through the pacing, I'll be getting any actual new stuff in it.

Also picked up, but have not yet read:

- DMZ Volume 2
- Sleeper Volume 3

I've only read Supergirl so far, but I almost wish I hadn't. If you weren't a fan of Robin OYL, skip this one with extreme prejudice.

Atom #8
52 #40
White Tiger #4

I'm sorry, the little teaser for Supergirl #15 on the last page made me die a little inside. Just a little. The rest of me was hoping I didn't actually just read what I thought I did.

Skipped out on The Dark Tower because the premise doesn't wow me enough after reading the books. If I don't mind it when I flip through the next few issues I'll buy the trade.

Once again, a big DAMN YOU GAIL-WOMAN for making me, and two strangers that were reading over my shoulder on the bus home, love you just that little bit more. Oh the goths. THE GOTHS! The two fellas asked me what the title was after I finished, and where they could buy the first few issues. Do I get a cut of your profits now? :D

Supergirl #14: Another good issue from Kelly that both answered some questions, while posing new ones. I'm not that concerned by the Cass continuity, since I don't think it's clear to begin with. Kara's impulsiveness, lack of experience both played a role in her almost getting killed. But ... wow. What the heck did Zor-El *do* to his "special girl"?! Poor Owen; that kid REALLY needs a break. Nice scene with Robin. And a last page that pretty much confirmed what I thought. I'm going to miss Churchill a lot. This was his penultimate issue, and even though Ale Garza is wonderful, this has been Ian's book.

Action Comics Annual #10: Mmmmm-mmmmm. This was GOOD. This is what a comic book by Geoff Johns and Richard Donner is capable of being. A lot of fun. It was an interesting resetting of the baseline for Big Blue, on a number of fronts. Good stories, interesting developments with the Kryptonians, and damn but that two-page spread of the Fortress by Jimenez just rocked.

Nightwing #127: This was Marv's best issue, and highlights all the reasons he should be writing this title. Good, dense character work that expands Dick's supporting cast, shows us how smart he is, gives us an idea of how he thinks, and is just a blast to read. This was good comics.

Outsiders #45: Heh. The first little interlude was just too cute. "Penguins!" It's sweet to see what fathering is for Roy. And the Black Lightning story really moved along and was compelling. I really like Winick, especially on this title. It's been good consistently, and has a perfect blend of action and looks inside the characters. Thunder is gonna lay on some hurt.

Mystery in Space #6 (of 8): Everyone not reading this should be imprisoned. For a long time. Jim Starlin has put together a great story with Comet, fantastic supporting characters, a wonderful self-contained world in Hardcore Station. Then, on top of it, the back-up feature with The Weird is just as good, if not better. Damn! I will be sorry to this end, that's for sure. My only complaint this week was that Shane Davis, who has been absolutely drawing the HELL out of this title (the main story; Starlin himself is drawing the back-ups) had the month off, apparently. I had no problems with the fill-in really, but Davis set the bar so high ....

The All New Atom #8: Bittersweet is the only way to describe this one really. Just lovely, and showing why this title is consistently one of the best DC publishes. It's got everything, and a ton of heart too. Just beautiful.

52 Week Forty: Dayum! Pissing off Steele and Natasha is not that wise of a move. John Henry Irons goes old school, in more ways that one, and presents a moving portrait of a hero. This is good comics. As we near the end of this crazy ride, I expect there will be more issues like this one. 52 is one of the craziest, most insane ideas they ever had. And it has completely worked. This issue will stand out, when it's all said and done.

Titles I need to read this morning:

Detective Comics #828
Welcome to Tranquility #3
The Helmet of Fate: Sargon the Sorcerer #1

and Blue Beetle #11 from last week, as I'm just picking up this title.
