In Rebirth, Mogo asked for help in fending off an alien fleet, because he was large but immobile. But, in IC, he was mobile enough to go to Krypton's star system and wait for the three Kryptonians, and I think a planet-sized GL would swat an alien invasion with a giant flyswatter.

What do you think?

Mobile is not the same thing as agile: he might be able to move, even move pretty damn quickly in a straight line, but I doubt he's great at evasive manoeuvring.

Also, if he's going up against an entire fleet of ships, his size would work against him: they can attack him from dozens of different angles, while presumably there's a limit to how far he can split his concentration. Even if he simply throws up a massive green force-field, the fleet can just hang around and wait for him to run out of lantern-juice.

Planets: real easy targets. :)

Mogo could potentially be the most powerful Green Lantern. His power's internalized, he never has to recharge, and he's a giant, self-sustaining planet. Hell, even after Hal destroyed the Battery, he had enough power to create constructs to fend off aliens that had settled on him.

I think it all depends on the writers, though. Moore implied that Mogo could travel on his own, but chose not to, because if he got too close to other planets his own gravity could potentially destroy them. He's able to stay in touch with other Lanterns through constructs, though, and he has complete control over his entire "body," meaning he can create water, land, life, etc. on his surface.

He was ignored a lot after Moore and Gibbons created him, but I was glad to see Dave bring him back in and breathe a little more life into the idea in Green Lantern Corps.

Mogo can just swat the individual ships with a giant flyswatter - otherwise Bolphugna the Unrelenting (http://www.glcorps.org/mogo.html) would never have ... relented. ;)

Wasn't that in GLC : Recharge ?

That is communicating, and there was one episode in which he sent a green figure to speak to Lobo.

As for Recharge, Mogo couldn't take on an alien invasion fleet, so he had to get help - though that may have been a plot device, it is actually the reason I started this thread, because I didn't find it credible that Mogo couldn't have dealt with them alone.

BTW, if I was an armada, I'd choose other places for R&R besides a living planet with a giant GL ring.

Hey, I'm sick of all these skinny planets! I like a celestial mass with a little size on the equator. ;)
