As I normally do on Tuesdays, I went by Best Buy on my lunch break to see what new or newly cheap DVDs I could find. I saw the very well packaged HB: SOS DVD although BB had to offer raincheacks for the exclusive "figurines" due to some sort of manufacturing problem. Then I saw some other stuff. Then out of nowhere I see ASOH! I know that it didn't go over very well with everybody & sure I don't think it's even close to the brilliant comic, but I still thought it was a pretty darn enjoyable way to kill 22 or so minutes. Then I noticed that it comes with a mini comic with never before seen Mignola art! Anyhoo, I bought it & while I haven't watched it yet (they frown upon DVD watching at work) I did look at the comic. You get an intro from Mike and then the aforementioned sketches from Mike AND design sketches from Mr. Guy "Awesome is My Middle Name" Davis!

So here's why you should go spend your $10:

Kooky Mignola art that you've never seen before.
Kookier Guy Davis art that you've never seen before.
4x3 Full Screen (boo) or 16x9 Widescreen (yea!) presentation.
5.1 & 2.0 Dolby Digital.
A Making Of featurette.
You're a Mignola completist.
Finally being able to delete it from your digital video recorder of choice.

Go. Go now & buy!

I pre-ordered my copy last month, but won't get to watch it till May when all my other pre-orders are available.

I was really disappointed that they didn't make more episodes of this, since I loved the first one :( I just couldn't justify the 10 bucks for 22 minutes worth of material. Picked up the Hellboy DVD at Wal-Mart though, to get the 80 page digest.

Thanks to the fine people at Amazon.com I got my copy of ASoH today. It's a great companion piece to add to any collection. The "collectable comic" is more like a scetch book of preproduction art work for the cartoon. I love the widescreen option, and the cover art. And it looks a lot better than it does on Youtube...

Yes folks, it's worth getting. It has a booklet with 3 new ASOH images,[ including the cover page] by Mike Mignola, and 7 pages by Guy Davis. The booklet is good but some images have been posted before. The making of is pretty good, but some more steady freeze frames of character sheets would have been perfect...[ Has Wide and Full Screen capability]...All in all,it will make a good companion for your growing Mignola DVD Collection.......

I loved the little Mignola insert, with that great little into where he talks about action figures and how analog he is. The Guy Davis designs for probably-never-to-be-seen Screw-On Head bodies were just awesome, and the Mignola villains were great. I laughed out loud when I saw the second one.

The insert is worth ten bucks, and I haven't even checked out the cartoon yet... But I saw it last year so no panic.

Yes, I like him to, I thought of him using his sweet scent/aroma to gull the innocent and law-abiding for his evil nefarious ways.....

Make a note: half hour TV shows are almost always 22 minutes long with 8 minutes of commercials. Hence, they're 30 minutes total. FYI. :)

We watched this yesterday. I'd already seen part of it online, but wanted to wait for a DVD release or something before watching the rest. The animation was a lot of fun, no doubt. It wasn't as enjoyable as the actual one-shot comic, but it still had a lot of spirit to it, the voice acting was superb, and I really dig the insert. It would be fun if they could do more animated Screw-On Head, we'll just have to wait and see :)
