***Woops. Those of you who've already read this, please note that the times have been changed, and a second signing has been added.
*******
Very cool news. The promotional efforts for BALTIMORE, Or The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire--the novel I've written with Mike, who also provides 150 illustrations and the cover--is getting geared up early.
For anyone attending New York Comic-Con, Bantam has created THREE limited edition promo posters for the book. Mike and I will be signing them at the Random House/Bantam booth (booth #458) on the Friday of the show (Feb.23rd) at 4pm and Sunday at Noon.
Hope to see you there.
The novel hits in hardcover on August 28th. Bantam will be doing an even cooler promo for San Diego.

ACK! ACK! ACK!
Damn, I wish I was going to be there. I'm really excited about this project.
But on the bright side, "even cooler promo for San Diego" you say? I take it that you are going to be there as well?

I will definitely be in San Diego this year. It's been eight years or so since I attended one, so I'm very much looking forward to it.

Christopher! This is exCITING! I've been waiting anxiously for more info on Baltimore.
But let me admit something. I'm a con-virgin. Though blessed and cursed with a life-long love of comics, I've never been to a comic-con and I am very uninformed about protocol. From reading others' posts, it seems like cons are the greatest place to pick up original art and I would love to pick some up as (admission #2) I don't have any. From the NYCC site, it appears that Mignola will be at 'artist alley' and I assume this means that he'll be exhibiting work for sale, but I'm not sure of that.
If I could both pick up new o.g. art and pick up a poster I would love to attend and would probably be willing to maybe pick up a few extras for the greater good, but I can't figure out from the site if this is possible. Are 'artist alley' and this promo both happening on friday? How many posters can one get? Please! Any help is welcome and could net you a poster fellow posters...
Further, would it be advantageous to be a volunteer?

Maybe I wasn't explicit enough in my previous post, but I would be willing to pick up a few posters for folks that can't attend if someone can inform me about possibly picking up original art as well. If anyone is aware of whether Mike will be selling art and if that will happen on Friday, please inform me as this would defenitely seal the deal for me to go.
Feel free to PM me as well.
Hi I figure that I needed to clarify something...the NYCC put Mike down in artist alley for reasons unknown to us. We never asked for it. Mike will not be set up there. He is going to this convention to promote Baltimore and the Animated Hellboy DVD... he will not be selling anything. Sorry for the confusion...

I don't know how to change the title on this thread, but obviously the time is wrong.

Could NYC Con possibly be vying for SDCC's piece of the exclusives pie this year? *scratches chin quizzically* Methinks foul deeds are afoot.
For all of those going, please come back with stories to tell and pics to share! I beg of you, please! :)

This is fantastic news! Thanks, Christopher! It's great to get an update on this book. It's the co-Mignola project I'm looking forward to most right now (and have been for years, since it was announced), even moreso than Darkness Calls, so I'm very glad to finally have a definite date to set all my hopes and dreams on. And earlier than I thought, too! For some reason I thought it would be fall. I'm glad you'll both be in San Diego, and I can't wait for whatever's "even cooler." In the meantime, I guess it's Ebay for those NYCC posters...
Unless you can get me one, Absenter... I'd be most grateful for that!

Just wanna know...are you allowed to digital/tape record at the con, or are you just allowed to snap regular pics? Obviously, I know not at the screenings, but I mean just the regular panels and stuff. Thanks.
I will be there Friday, and am very much looking forward to meeting you and Mike!
I am also hoping to be posting here on the Hellboy forum more again ("more again"?). I used to post a lot a couple of years ago, tried to get back in a few months back but time just didn't allow. Being married, starting a new business, and working on having kids just doesn't give you a lot of time for the silly stuff ;)

I'm really looking forward to meeting you guys there! I want to ask, though, before I accidentally come off rude: would Mike be willing to sign other stuff, as well as the posters? Not that I'm gonna bring my entire Hellboy collection or something LOL But just a comic or DVD or whatever else I might want to have signed? If not, it's cool, because it'll be nice just to meet the both of you :)

To be honest, I'd be willing to consider it, but the only issue is that it's kinda hard to carry posters around at a con and not have them end up getting beat up in some fashion. I'm gonna be working hard enough to keep mine from getting trashed by the mob LOL

Selfish interest aside... there are GREAT cheap plastic poster tubes available at art stores.. they adjust to different sizes... and sling over your shoulder. I would definitely pick one up if I were you... to ensure that your poster won't get dinged.

quick search turned up these... but I know there are lots out there...
;) I'll happily trade some sort of original art too, if you like!! :D

Isn't it so that there will be not one but 3 different posters?
Oh, I'd like to get them too, especially if they are ca 1/4 from the normal movie posters and this way much better for framing... But it's probably too late to beg/ask, and everyone will have enough their own stuff to carry around and to worry about. And it will be unfair if someone in the line will not get them because person before him takes several of them...
But, please, post the scans!

No. This is my first convention EVER,
There will be a DVD signing too. At San Diego he signed two other items besides the promotional poster. It really depends on the line. Every show/signing is different.

Who loves ya?
These posters. They're beauty. Like seriously I'm going to frame them and put them up next to each other in my basement whenever I happen to get a basement. Also in this future basement, I will have a bar, but that's niether here nor there.
Similarly cool, but not in that hang-them-up-in-my-basement kind of way, was meeting Mike and Chris. The illustrations look amazing and the prose actually on the poster is that extra touch, an indication, I think, of how great this collaboration is going to turn out. Thanks for your time guys; If I seemed a little 'special' it's because I was kind of overwhelmed with the whole thing. Anyway...
I came through pretty big! :D I've got five extras and I'm just gonna go down the line chronologically by request. You'll get a PM from me...;)

Well done! Glad it was fun and exciting. What do the posters look like? That's great of you to snag some for those board members unable to attend. I love that about this place! I am hoping, as Chris hinted, that there will be more at the SDCC so I can pick up one (three) there. :) I was lucky enough to meet Chris at SDCC when his first Hellboy novel came out; helluva guy.

I'l like to see how the posters look like... Scans or photos, please!
The posters are quite nice, indeed :) We went home with three of them, signed by both Mike and Chris, who were very nice gentlemen. Mike was also kind enough to sign my ART OF HELLBOY book and do a little headsketch in it for me. Definitely a hell (no pun intended, honestly!) moment for me :) I had actually ran into him earlier in the day. I had completely forgotten where he was going to be signing yesterday, so when I saw him walking around, I figured I would just take a chance and go right up to him and ask. Mike was very nice and polite, shared the information, and we shook hands. It's nice to meet a creator like that, who isn't all just "Hey, I'm busy, why are you bothering to talk to me?!" :)
I also bumped into Tad, which I was very happy about because I figured I wasn't going to make it to the showing of BLOOD AND IRON today. Tad, you're the man, I hope you're having a great weekend at NYCC, good luck with the show today! :) Hope we get to meet again someday!

Wanted to clarify that right now, I have five requests already for posters, but should someone not respond, I'll take the next folks in line.
I didn't take any pictures. (I wouldn't be a very absent absenter if you could see me!) However, there were a number of moments I wish I had brought a camera, being that I must have walked around the show 15 times to make sure I saw it all. As previously noted, I was a little overwhelmed.
The first moment was when a small demon from the Darkness booth started shit with some cartoonime character I'm unfamiliar with that kept mooning him with a fake, plastic butt. Surreal.
The second, equally surreal moment was seeing Gary Coleman. I made it up to the second level late in the day and there wasn't any line for the 'celebrities'. Gary wasn't at his seat and there was a sign up on the wall behind him with his name on it. I got the urge to make a photo of myself under it with the "Whatchootalkinboutwillis" face on! Then I saw him talking to some girls, he was so small!, and who was behind them? The guy who played Chewie! Thinking about it now, I really wish I had gotten a photo with these two guys. Oh well...I'll just have to wait until the next time I'm in a room with Gary Coleman and Chewbacca.

Just sent out the prints today so all those on the list please look for a PM.
Again, apologies to those I couldn't accomodate, but I was wary to ask for too many copies or too many signatures and I only had so many arms to carry and defend. If I ever do this again, I'll be more prepared.
Anyways, hopes and prayers they all make it safe and sound and that everyone got the one they wanted.

Glad to hear they arrived ok. The Darkness Calls promos were free and I had grabbed a few of them when I first got into the show. They ended up becoming exellent buffers twixt my hot, little hands, various con-goers and those precious posters. They got a little beat up, but I figured they would make a nice bonus regardless. I had three and popped them into three random tubes so if you got one, it was luck of the draw.
However, everyone got an Absenter original packaging tube, custom made, each as singular as a snowflake. These are collectors items folks. Perfect for framing!:D
