So sometimes I scribble. Eventually I'll have learned how to draw.

A secret to life
My brother, a stranger to me,
Married his high school sweetheart
They have a beautiful daughter.
My cousin, a mirror of me,
Met his wife when he heard her voice
Around the corner when she was
Doing rounds. They have four children.
They are very happy.
I have a best friend who is maybe
Just a little frightened of me.
She cannot understand why I
Love women and if I love her
Am I perhaps in love with her?
I’ve never been in love.
I keep thinking there must be a secret to life
Something to crack the code of meaning and worth.
And like a thief in front of the cave door, I try
All combinations of the magic word:
New clothes, exercise, India Black instead of Royal Blue,
home-cooked not take-out, poetry, patience, zen, ambition…
Last month, one of my students invited me to attend
The housewarming of his newly bought apartment.
Three weeks ago, one of my classmates called to say
I should come to the premiere of her new play.
I would have gone, but I had bills to pay
And I couldn’t afford a ticket or a present.
This weekend, I met a woman at the bar.
Two years ago we had an affair
That lasted ‘til she never spoke to me again
And I got drunk, cried, and got drunk again
Until I stopped thinking about her.
She hooked her fingers in my belt loop
And told me how good I looked.
I nodded, smiled and said thanks
And bought her girlfriend a beer.
All the time I thought about
How we never once held hands.
Today I woke up, very late, to answer the door:
My neighbours had cookies for helping them
Carry the TV, bed and sofa to the fifth floor.
And in the afternoon, I ran three blocks when
My friend called to say his back went out at the grocery store.
Storing vegetables in the fridge, he nudged my shoulder
And asked me to marry him.
I laughed so hard his wife came to see what we were doing.
I keep thinking there must be a secret to life.
But there isn’t.

I would say you draw damn well.
And the poem is just... wow. Just wow.
I'd say you're pretty well on your way, Das.
Just outta curiosity, is that part for real?
Yeah, yeah, calm down.

Things I want to say.
The things I want to say
Are somewhere hiding.
Trapped, by the things
I ought to and shouldn’t say,
They’ll never see the light of day
Things I want to do.
The things I want to do
Having been hunted by the things
I need to and should do –
They are languishing in careful cages
At the obligatory zoo.

Ah, here's your art thread. I knew I saw it somewhere. I'd say those are more then just "scribbles". Those are pretty darn good Das. Nice stuff. Hope to see more.

I know, I was lucky with that one. One of them's the owner of the bar: he's been there since the '60s, and the other guy is a regular who's probably been coming there for that long. The bar itself started out as a Prohibition time speakeasy.

I really like this one (and the two men at the bar). Have you ever played around with black and white? YouR grasp of contrast with color, I think, would be enhanced in B&W.

Cross-posted in Mega Photography thread as well.
So I was on holiday in the USVI where they definitely do not export shells and coral. But the thing that I loved was how the old coral and shells became part of the rocks in some places. And in other places looked like bird bones and stone roses. Just a selection of what I saw on the beach there, a couple of the folks I made friends with and randomness.
First couple of things I saw:
Brain coral

Fish skin: the skin was mostly intact but the insides were lunch long ago

Conch shells
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m262/phryneateleusis/PUBLIC/f725e6b9.jpg
...I love how this one sort of looks like a bird bill

Starting a new series. Some pics will be better than others. Shooting using ISO 800 equivalent with a Sigma 18mm-200mm, f=5.3 at full extension. Going hand held because someone nicked my tripod.
