When I was a wee 'lil fella I discovered this gaming system, and in true geek manner, became obsessed with it. Well since maturing I have realized its not the start and end of fictious worlds, but it is a damn good one, and I was was wondering what you think a movie of the 40K universe should be like?

I don't think a movie would do WH40k justice.

What im thinking of is a Battle Star Galactica style show x10 thats on HBO. Now that would do WH40k Justice.

I think they could do a trilogy/ies on the non-marine sides of the Imperium of Mankind.

Eisenhorn could make a good Babylon 5 mystery tv show, but it would be expensive to produce. At least Battlestar Galactica 2.0 in budget.

Anything with the Space Marines would cost to much to produce, currently, and be confusing for new people. They'd have to tone it down a *lot* (like the Tyranids) and condense storylines in a major way to even attamept it.

All with major, major budgets.

There's actually a German fan-film being made that's based in the Warhammer 40k universe. It's called Damnatus and based on the trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77TpMvRZ_LQ), it looks pretty damn good.

Personally, I'd really like to see a "Band of Brothers" -style miniseries revolving around the Imperial Guard. It would be really personal, with multiple and diverse characters, and would give viewers an idea of just how grim and desperate the future is, but at the same time driving home the lesson that humanity endures through sacrifice.

Actually I thing the Tyranids would probably be the easiest race to pull offf. Think starship troopers. The space marines would be tricky though, so I agree that they should be avoided for now.

The Chronicles of Riddick had a pretty good Warhammer 40k feel to it.

It didn't always suck but it didn't make me hopeful for a good franchise film.

At the comic store I worked at for a couple of months the owners used to be big into Warhammer 40K and would be playing it all the time. While I never quite got the particulars of the game I spent a solid hour having the ins and outs of the universe explained to me and in all honesty I think they could make a great series of films out of it.

I guess there's even like EU novels out for it right now.

Agreed.

Riddick is a guilty pleasure of mine. :D

They should get the people who made that to do an adaption or something with the WH40K universe in live action.

Directors like Joss Whedon and Ridley Scvott would be good for this franchise, too.

Thing is with WH40K there's unlimited potential for where they can go with it. They can even have several movies with different protogonists (love to see Eisenhorn in live action!) and *still* have plenty left over.

They can make action movies, war movies (Orcs), horror movies (with the Inquisition), spy movies, monster/alien movies (Tyranids etc) and more.

Batman:

I've read one novel (the first Eisenhorn* novels) and they're incredible!
