I just read this weeks Ion and must say so far its the comic of the week, read on for spoilers!
Kyle finds himself within the lantern belonging to the Tangent universes' GL. Inside they are in what is known as the bleed, a "place between places", where the monitors cant see you. this is where he runs into the two kids who found the lantern in IfC. And then some familiar looking monsters burst through and of all people MONARCH or Cap. Atom shows up, nice entrance by the way, total shocker. They talk and Cap asks for Kyles help, kyle leaves with the kids and return the tangent heroes back into the lantern. Kyle gives the lantern to Guy on OA for safe keeping and is sent by the Guardians to sector 3388 where he runs into dead bodies of Qwardians...and then into Donna Troy of all people. Though one can assume she killed them, I think she found them like this and they are on the trail of the sinestro corps.
I really enjoyed the interaction with the kids as well as the conversation with Cap Atom. Great job Ron!

It was called "the bleed?" Interesting. That's a reference to the Wildstorm Universe, which had just been visited by...Captain Atom.

Doh I forgot that part, there was full page of wildstorm characters along with cap and he was telling kyle of the far of places he had been. same earth, different heroes. nice art on that page.

All right class get out you textbooks "Planetary" and "The Authority" turn to page....
This issue really interested me because back when IC was in full swing I noted the similarity between the Pre-Crisis groups "prison" and the wildstorm "Snowflake". Interesting that DC would apply the great Wildstorm multi-verse concept.
As to the issue. I like Kyle I enjoy the book, but I can't wait to see Kyle put into a roll other then DCU plot setup guy.
This was the first issue of Ion I've read. I picked it up just for the Tangent characters (I was hoping Joker would be featured, but sadly she wasn't). I was disappointed that we didn't see more of those Tangent characters, but the mystery of what's going on hooked me. I'm very curious what this means for the larger story that's going on in DC's books.

Not just a reference, a surprisingly blatant reference. Captain Atom and Kyle fought a bunch of Daemonites. And then he recounts his experience in the Wildstorm U in a way that it seems to be connected to the Monitors and what's secretly going on. And then Cap mentions the Monitors are looking for him (in fact, that's why he went to the Bleed in the first place... to hide from them). And apparently the Bleed can access other Earths, which is why it seems to connect the DCU, Wildstorm U and Tangent U.
And wasn't it interesting how the sky turned red when the Tangent Green Lantern started bringing other Tangent characters into the DCU?

Good stuff, even outside of the budding multiverse's return (and a surprisingly not-evil Captain Atom return!). The Tangent cover was awesome and threw my comic guy off completely. Kyle being thrown into one messed up situation after another after another- it's like when he took over for Hal all over again, kid didn't get a moment's rest. And now, his mom's sick, he's being pushed around The Bleed by Tangent characters, and he's being sent into space by the Guardians to investigate the Sinestro Corps.
One thing I'm curious about- the Guardians told him he was the next stage of Green Lantern evolution by becoming Ion. Would that mean that... maybe instead of patrolling seperate sectors of space, he'll be patrolling seperate universes?

I didnt read your Synopsis, but thanks for posting it. I just finished Ion 1-6 in the trades that came out yesturday. Thank god i got it. It was the last one. Anyway I have no doubt that the issue 10 was great. I havnt read 7-9 but if the writing is anything like 1-6 i know its gotta be good.

So, wait, will Wildstorm be part of the "new multiverse"? Or, rather, will the DC multiverse follow the Wildstorm model?

The two are not mutually exclusive.
Looks like the new DC multiverse is the old WSU multiverse.
So it, obviously, follows that model, and also does include the WSU.
Most important book to come out this week. The Bleed, Daemonites and a shifty acting Captain Atom in Monarch armor who "needs" an ultimate power source.
Someone on another board commented about how much the new Monitors resemble the Controllers.
The Suspendium/Mister Mind reveal in 52 was the second biggest reveal in my mind. Mister Mind + Suspendium = Skeets?

I think that Wildstorm is part of the DC Multiuniverse.... I think that the heroes that are on "New Earth" will remain on "New Earth".... I see the Qward Universe as another Universe as well as Earth 3 returning in some sort of fashion...
I like the idea of a DC "Exiles"..... Ion, Donna Troy, Captain Atom... I see some fantastic stories coming out of that...

This issue is exactly what I like to read... alternate earths, high concepts, good lookin' heroes (I'm winking at you, Donna Troy!) all tied into a "bigger picture". It reminded me of the feeling I got when I was reading Morrison's "Rock of Ages" storyline from JLA.
I have to agree and say this was the book of the week.

This Ion series has been blowing my mind. I can't wait till it's over but I am also sad because it will be over . . . :(

I couldn't find a thread on this. Did anyone else read it. Not only was it incredibly engaging, but it seemed like an incredibly important development heading into the next company-wide event. Monarch, the Bleed, the alternate universes that "all deserve a chance to live," and whoever the Guardians are sending Kyle to pursue. Big stuff happening here.
Incidentally, what's the whole Tangent Comics thing? Is this a DC imprint?

Yeah, it was awesome seeing The Bleed make it into the DCU, great seeing Captain Atom back and not evil, and the Tangent characters returning were fun.
The Tangent comics were a fifth-week event DC did... about nine years ago? I think. Anyway, it was so popular the one year they decided to do it again the year after.

I don't know. I got a strong vibe from him that his morals had been strongly "adjusted" by his experiences. When a hero starts traveling time and space, talking about saving universes and needing a power source without doing it in his own book or seeking out other heroes for help, it seems like there's a good chance he/she's destined to become one of those mega-villains that thinks he/she's a hero. No doubt saving these universes will come at a morally questionable price.
Incidentally, thanks for the link. I forgot Ion shipped two weeks ago since my LCS just got it last week.

He seemed eager to help the multiverse, insisting that he was planning on protecting whatever worlds he could from whatever danger was coming. I'd hate to see them do the predictable thing and, since he's in the Monarch armor, make him evil like they'd planned on doing the first time. It'd be awesome seeing him and Kyle as protectors of the multiverse.

Of course, the best villians often see themselves as heroes...

^ And some, such as Zero Hour's Parallax, would have left the universe better off had they won. (I never understood the logic which allowed the heroes to annihilate entire timelines, while claiming that Hal was the one 'playing god'. No one would have stayed dead had he succeeded.)

I thought it was great that one of the kids tried to grab the boobs of that construct Kyle had made.
