I just re-read the tpb this week, why did this series have such a short run?

There are actually two TPBs. In my opinion the series was getting a bit repetitive after 12 issues so it was ok to stop it. However, I wish there would have been some kind of conclusion.

It was only intended to be 12 issues, with the idea of being 12 single-issue stories.

I agree there was a feeling of repetition in some of the stories, but I think the framework was in place to really tell some great stories.

I loved this series. Interesting and cool ideas with great art. what ever happened to it becoming a TV show?

They shot a pilot for it but it wasn't picked up by anyone.

I don't know about a TV show, far as I know the only WS title to even have a pilot in development was Sleeper.

The ideas in GF were indeed original, my favorite one has to be the 'space catapult' story.

The pilot for GF used to be able to be found on some of the torrent sites but I honestly don't know how that stuff works or if it's still out there.

I remember reading that they did shoot the pilot (based on the first issue) and it didn't get picked up but then it got leaked on the internet and that actually kill any potential deals.

Damn good pilot actually. I mean it looked like it would be an entertaining show.

I pretty much love everything coming from Warren Ellis these days. =)

The pilot for the Global Frequency tv show was really good... probably one of the best pilots I've ever seen that didn't get picked up and a LOT better than some of the pilots that HAVE been picked up... it had this semi-X-Files feel to it... with a nice bit of "rookie learning the ropes in the world of black-ops" thing mixed in to give the viewer a character to relate to...

it was going to have recurring characters outside of Miranda Zero and that girl Aleph... the field unit was going to be the same 2 characters with cameos by other people on the Global Frequency in some of the episodes... the only thing that might have been an objection by the networks was that every episode might have had to have a dues ex machina to pull off the "saving the day/world" part of the story

and when the episode leaked and the networks started getting e-mails about it, that killed any chance of a series being launched from just about any network... I still think it would work well as a Sci-Fi series or even a USA series... probably not much on CW/WB as it was intended... but maybe one of the other cable networks would like it... as doubtful as that is... especially with how long ago it got the axe by WB

The pilot was fantastic and I remember that when I downloaded it there were literally thousands and thousands of people doing the same.

Now here's what I don't get. If I were a network executive and I discovered how many people were after this, my first thought would have been to pick up the phone and say "We've got a winner here boys, lets get on it."

Surely thats a sample market right there regardless of legal status

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the "Downloading killed this pilot" thing was BS. It was just a good excuse for the tight-arse executives who are afraid of trying anything new.

Either that or they beleived their own BS and still have no idea what 'viral marketing' is, or how effective it can be.

Got the first volume and it was excellent. Anyone else want to see Ellis do more done-in-one sci-fi with different artists every issue?
