I was reminded of this after reading the ethnicity thread. Last year I was watching a documentary about the Amazons, as in the female warriors.
This one researcher was able to find a living relative of an amazon warrior. Surprisingly the girl is mongolian, she is the only mongolian that has blonde hair and freckles. They took bones and hair samples that they collected from Amazonian warrior burial grounds and tested it with her blood, there was proven lineage.
This was proving that the amazons were a mix of mongolian and Scythian lineage, I don't think they were ever of greek lineage. They took wheat they knew of the legends, as in location and started digging. They found burial sites of female warriors, armor and all. This proved that these females traveled to Rome as mercenaries.
Also it came to be known that they never chopped off a breast, they fought all intact. I just figured that someone would be interested in the fact that the Amazons are not just a myth.
The documentary is called: Secrets of the Dead: Amazon Warrior Women.
