I haven't actually purchased this volume yet but was able to thumb through it this afternoon at the comic shop, and I just want to say that visually, Tad your story was the best looking and best drawn of them all. No, I'm not looking for brownie point or favors here, I speak from the heart. I just honestly feel that you missed your calling Tad as a comic book artist. Granted, it may be a style that some might pigeon-hole as only being suitable for "kids comics" or the like, but I disagree. Your command of storytelling, panel layout and flow was very hip, energetic, and pleasing to the eye. Wonderful stuff and I just wanted to go on record as having said so.

Tad didn't draw "Pyramid of Death," Fabio Laguna did. Tad wrote it, though, and the story itself was all kinds of fun. I love Lobster Johnson, and I always wanted to see more of Hellboy as a kid, so the story was very entertaining.
"The Black Wedding" was a great story, too. Everything about it screamed "Mike Mignola," especially the flow and pace of the story, and the odd panel here and there that focused on an object in the scene, like a candle on a skull, a gargoyle, or a single Mignola-style flame. And the art was very nice, very fitting, and as much like Mike's style as you can get while still keeping it very animated looking.
I'm glad I spotted it on the shelf, 'cause I didn't know it was coming out this week, and it's been a couple months since I've gotten a Hellboy story.

FYI, there's a story about the book on CBR's front page now:

Tad did draw a story for the second Hellboy Animated TPB, though--and I agree--he should be doing more comics!

Extremely fun book. I enjoyed both stories a lot.

Wow, thank you very much for setting me straight. I've always known that Tad can draw very well, but when I saw the art on that last story (not having read the credits thoroughly apparently) I thought he'd taken it out a whole new door...so to speak. Oh well, I still recommend that people pick up this book.

Went to pick up a copy today and lo and behold, sold out. I really need to find a different comicbook store. A million copies of the regular pap and when the good stuff comes out, two or three copies. Idiots.

Well, I just came from my LCS and apparently they brought in a bunch of them but they were all sold out on Wednesday.
They've got a bunch more on order for next week. I'll have to go there right at opening time.

Hmmmmm... my comic shop has been instructed to put all Hellboy/BPRD stuff in my box. I wonder if the unigue "book" status of this comic will cause some sort chain reaction ending up with me not getting this when I go to the shop this weekend!
...well, I'm sure I could get them to order me a copy, but still, I can't wait too long for a new HB comic!

Yup, the comics guys did put this is my box.
Really nifty stuff. You can't go wrong with more Hellboy. It did remind me of some of the stronger Weird Tales stuff. Not Mignola to be sure, but a solid Hellboy adventure with classic HB universe conventions. I liked the simplistic art with the blocky lines. I think it works well for the smaller format.
High points in the story:
-The witch summoning the demon (In a tux!) and the refrence to Hacate.
-The fact that the demon yore a tux
-The dream sequence with Hellboy and Liz's inner child thing.

Finally picked this up tonight.
The main story - It was a good, solid storyline. Nothing absolutely spectacular, but it's still a good story. It had that "we've delt with this kind of crap before" feel, and I liked that. The psychic from this one didn't amuse me as much as Russel Thorne from Sword of Storms, but Hellboy's disliking of psychics in general made for good entertainment ("And that's the problem with psychics: the useful details are always too damn late"). Hellboy, Kate, Abe, and Liz were all great. I don't want to be too spoilerish with my review, though.
Slight question - Hellboy made a reference to the professor as "Broom". Are we to assume that the Animated-verse is going to keep it as Professor Broom instead of Professor Bruttenholm?
The short story - Very humourous. I can only sum it up by saying that this was truly funny. With Lobster Johnson and a young Hellboy, how could it now be?
I cannot wait for the second volume to come out, guys.
You are correct. It's Broom because introducing the idea that it's spelled one way and pronounced another seemed confusing. In the comic it's just a line or Broom is put into quotes.

I liked the second story a lot. Great art and a really fun light-hearted story. Little Hellboy pretending to be LJ was simply great!
The main story of the book left me wanting, though. Personally, I didn't like the artwork and even had a hard time telling what was happening from time to time. However, I should probably give it a second read and maybe that will change my opinion.
Looking forward to Tad's artwork in the second volume!
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
I enjoyed this... the art in the first story like stygian said, seemed kinda rushed.but it's always good to read new Hellboy story.:) cannot wait for the next one!

Enjoyed The Black Wedding. Thanks Tad. Needed some hellboy action to keep going ;)
I'm having trouble finding out more about Sword of Storms in my region. Is there any link or trailer i could see?

I finshed reading Black Wedding this weekend and I didn't really like it. I know it is "digest format" and is based on the cartoon style but the artwork seemed bad to me. Perhaps it was rushed. It is just my opinion but it wasn't for me.
The second story was better. The story was an interesting spin and the art much better. I could have used more of this! I will be anxious to see what the next digest brings.

I liked it. The main story was interesting, and young Hellboy is always funny. Young Hellboy=Dennis the Menace with a Right Hand of Doom.
Hey, a thread for this, too! Great! :)
So, I really dug this little digest. The Black Wedding was solid, it felt like it easily could have been the plot to another animated feature. The storytelling by the artist, Rick Lacy, was superb. Pyramid Of Death was a blast, also. Nice job, Tad :) Lil' Hellboy was adorable, and I absolutely geeked out seeing Lobster! I hope this means we'll be seeing him in Blood and Iron? ;) Anyways, it read well, and Fabio Laguna's art was a delight. While it might not be fair to compare, I enjoyed Laguna's style over Lacy's. Just much slicker, more pleasing to the eye, IMO. Just my opinion, that's all :)
Looking forward to more of these Hellboy Animated comics!

Tad, I read it today. I liked both stories, but yours was really great. Lots of fun.
