View Full Version : John Howlett should Return- Wolverine: The End spoilers

I just read a friend's copy of Wolverine: The End. I thought it was an average comic book (which means I have a higher opinion of it than anyone else I've seen online), but the character of John Howlett (Wolverine's hereto unknown older brother) had promise, and I think it's a character worth revisiting (or visiting for the first time in the regular Marvel Universe) in the regular Wolverine book, or the Origins title. It's worth noting that "The End" sold very well, so I'm sure the people who paid for it when it came out (or bought the TPB) wouldn't mind seeing some of the concepts visited in an above-average comic book (as something actually comes out of the crappy story they paid $18 for).
There's an easy way to do it. A murder occurs, and Wolverine recognizes that his brother was responsible (Wolverine: The End mentioned that he had fought Howlett before a few times, and forgot all about it, so if "The End" was accurate in its backstory for Wolverine, he would remember these conflicts post House of M.) Cue an X-man asking Wolverine why he's never mentioned a brother. Cue Logan grufly explaining that he just remembered the brother recently, and those memories indicated that his brother died 50 years ago.

No... Really, he shouldn't... I bought Wolverine The End in trade form and didn't enjoy it... In fact, I felt cheated... Anything that reminds me of it is likely to invoke vomitting in me...
Sabretooth already fills that role in Wolvie's history... And heck, if Sabretooth is Dog (as hinted at in the Origin mini) then he's virtually his brother anyway...
A brother is a confusing and unnecessary addition... This is Logan we're talking about here, not the Summers clan!

I agree, I don't wanna see that craptacular character brought to life in the 616 U. I thought it was rather weak and predictable "<insert character name here> doesn't die after all and later comes back with a major mad-on for <insert main character's name here>". I also hate the idea that Creed is Logan's brother, so hopefully Loeb will not tie them together. Let Wolverine: The End stand as an alternate future, not the 616 future.

I'm no fan but with their intertwinned histories, it's always there on the periphery for some hack writer to go to..

i prefer the idea that Sabretooth is wolverine's son. Personally i want to see wolverine retconned into being Thomas Logan anyway. James Howlett is lamerz
And that name. MY GOD

And what exactly is wrong with the name James Howlett?
And seriously, how jaded have comics fans become when they grip about a NAME? It's, you know, a NAME. It features a common good first name, and a perfectly sensible last name.
Whats the problem?

Wolverine: the end was GARBAGE.
Lamelamelamelame. I think origin shouldn't be in continuity, but just left as it was. Wolverine knowing about it ruins it for me.

Don't put 'the moon' after it.
It works ok then.
