CBRdraws: BATMAN

[Jaye]

CBRdraws is simple, we pick a character from comics, games, cartoons, whatever, and then people post their own drawings of that character.

It never closes, so its not like you have to do a drawing by the end of the week, but if you want a challenge each week to draw something you didn't expect to, it might be a good exercise.

No level of skill required, this is just for fun. It can be a splash page or part of a story. It can be pencils, inks, colors, paint, photography... really anything goes.

This week its The Dark Knight himself: Batman!

Other than the bits of anatomy Sunny, that's really nice. I especially love the emblems, and the textural sense of the shorts on Superman, and the utility belt and the draping of the cape, on Batman. It looks like cloth and leather.

Here is a printable version that will let you pass the fun on to some upstart young un. Just print, fold horizontally in the center, then cut a slit along the seam from the upper left of the cover to the upper right of the inside cover (the Razzo ad in the center). Then fold vertically where appropriate and viola! A minicomic perfect for warping young brains. I included two original gag ads and a variant cover to make it fit the format.

Thanks Lew! I spewed Cola on my computer when the artist pointed out that Commish Gorgon had a bottle of asprin in his breast pocket. That was hilliarious and made me think.....I bet Gordon does eat alot of asprin, something I have never considered before.

This is Batman at his most basic. The cape & cowl are separate, the utility belt is low tech pouches, and the gloves & boots hang loose. The physique is supposed to resemble a man who puts emphasis on brute strength, as opposed to dexterity.

I finished this on the 11th of this month. I started, I think, around 7:00pm, took a break, and resumed around 10:00pm. As you can see, the entire uniform is a black/gray combo. I figured the lack of the oval target on the breast plate meant no bright colors at all. So, the belt had to be black, because that's the only other place he'd have color, and it's the last place he'd want a gunman firing anyway.

Here he is, standing on a gargoyle, atop a skyscraper. This was actually the first time I drew a bat. I had no previous experience, so I turned to google images, and, voila. Behind him is the Gotham City skyline, and a Gotham Police Department surveillance blimp. His uniform is supposed to be the more high tech version, along with the oval target, circle buckle, and capsules.
