Cover has three Lex Luthor flying above Earth like Superman.

The ticker at the bottom reads “Montoya fights a Dragon!...Lex Luthor, Man of Steel!…”
The Ticker lies as Montoya is not even in this issue.

The book is penciled by Andy Smith. The Origin of Mr. Terrific by Mark Waid and Ethan Van Sciver.

Week 39, Day 1
Metropolis: Natasha and Jake are following Dr. Laughlin in hopes of getting into Lex’s hidden lab. Upon entering the lab, Natasha rushes up and holds the door open for her and Jake to enter. Dr. Laughlin is under a control panel wiring something under the console when he is approached by Natasha. Dr. Laughlin turns around in surprise and tells Natasha and Jake to get out just before an explosion rips the outer door out and starts a fire all through the room. Natasha takes notice that the sprinkler system has been jammed and the fire extinguishers have been emptied and orders Jake to get some water on the fire, at which time he hits the sprinkler system in the roof. Jake and Natasha hear some people coming so Jake grabs Natasha and flies to the ceiling to hide out. Mercy and two guards come into the room. Mercy calls out for Dr. Laughlin when one of the guards finds…some of him. The guards are instructed to salvage everything they can . Mercy looks down and picks up a piece of paper and mutters “Dennis you dumb, dumb, bastard…”

Week 39, Day 3
The Ruins of Atlantis: Ralph and the Helmet of Fate come across the remains of Atlantis; the birth place of magic on Earth according to the Helmet of Fate. Ralph takes note that Aquaman would never let that fate happen to Atlantis and asks if Aquaman is dead. Fate tells Ralph that “If he lives…if he lives it is as a victim of the magicks of legend and the power of the sea. He can not help us with what we seek”. A disheveled looking Aquaman tells Ralph “perhaps I can assist you…***this is one of the scenes from last week’s Next in 52*** Fate tells Aquaman that they are in desperate need of a waded link from the Shackles of Arion. Ralph and Fate are told where the Shackles are but that “…no one has ever obtained a link and lived to tell the tale for breaking the chain frees the ancient beast it contains. Upon reaching the shackled beast fate tells Ralph “We haven’t time left to deliberate, Ralph. The Aethers are fast converging and you must take action soon or risk losing your wife forever. We must have this piece. What exchange will you make?” Ralph looks down at his wedding ring – the wicker ring – and gives it over. The ring is now used as the bottom link in the chain holding the beast as Ralph and Fate walk away, Ralph “We have very little left to gather, don’t we? We’re almost done” to which Fate replies “Almost.

Week 39, Day 6
Oolong Island: While Egg Foo and others starting up a Boom Tube, Dr. Sivana is approached by Doctor Tyme to see if he has found any sign of his missing 52 seconds. Sivana tells him that he wasn’t even looking but is looking at something with a greater mystery, artificial time in particle form which he calls Suspendium. When asked by Dr. Morrow about Mr. Mind, Sivana tells him that he “…wanted to see what would happen if I bombarded the slimy little creep with suspendium radiation without his consent. I have no idea where he wound up after they brought me here, but the suspendium’s been acting very strangely…” Dr. Morrow excuses himself and leaves. On his way through the lab we see three of the Horsemen leaving via Boom Tube. ***this is a scene from last week’s Next in 52*** Morrow approaches Magnus, who is working on a computer, and tells him that he needs to take care as to not raise and suspicions on himself with the tin cans, mercury thermometers, a missing gold watch, lead shielding… Magnus tells Morrow that he would need a lot more than that to rebuild his Metal Men. He then pulls up on the computer screen a news article on Red Tornado’s rampage in Australia. Morrow tells Magnus that he will have to look into it immediately and leaves. Magnus turns back to his PC and tells Mercury that he needs to stay out of sight at which time a miniature Mercury walks out from behind the computer screen.

Week 39, Day 6
Shiruta, Kanhdaq – the Gardens of Isis: Black Adam, Isis and Sobek are talking about Osiris as they are concerned that he has not left his room and will not talk to Adam or Isis about the situation. According to Sobek, Osiris is concerned that he is cursed and that all of them with the power are curse. Suddenly a big Boom is heard overhead and it starts to rain. Isis said that she did not do it and Sobek points to the garden, to which Isis holds some flowers and says that they are dying.

Week 39, Day 5 ****Yes day 5
Metropolis: Natasha is spying on Lex with her “bug” to see what is going on in the Alpha Lab. She is startled when Jake approaches her. She tells Jake that she can only get a visual if she is within 50 meters of the bug. Jake tells Nat to come with him as he needs to show her something he found. While walking down the hall she wonders if they are preparing the lad for treatment, who is the subject. Jake stops at a door and tells Nat “I told you, I found something that I think will explain a lot”. Jake opens the door to reveal “Jake” on a table missing part of his legs and left arm. The Jake next to Natasha then reveals himself to be Hannibal – Everyman. Hannibal then changes appearances to Lex and then into Natasha. Natasha blasts Hannibal through a wall and continues to fire at him with her powers. Just as she fires again, Hannibal is blocked by Lex who takes the blast full on without budging but it ends up making a hole in his shirt. Lex then asks Natasha “…did you earn the powers I gave you? The powers that I’m about to take away”? And with a click of a remote by Mercy Natasha looses her powers. Lex then throws Natasha against a wall. Upon getting up Natasha notices a report that says that Lex is eligible for treatment. Lex then approaches Natasha and hits her two more times and then back hands her. Natasha about to pass out tells Lex “You’re as much an animal as Everyman”. To which Lex responds “Wrong. I’m Superman”***this is a scene from last week’s Next in 52*** while holding Natasha up with one hand.

NEXT IN 52: John Henry with his arms cocked back, about to hit Lex with his Steel Hammer while Lex looks on smiling.
Next Weeks cover is Steel knocking the “L” off of Luthor’s Building.

He's always posted on Tuesday. It's always marked as a spoiler, so the option is there to read it or not. Some people do get books early.

last time I saw someone post a comic early was Civli War frontline 10 (or was it Civil war: the Return), and that post got taken down faster than a deer in hunting season.

i know, i'd say issue 51 and 52 will be very sensitive.

so i'll avoid posting them up. fill in weeks should be grand tho.

I have had no problems with the Spoilers being posted on Tuesday for 52. On any Spoiler I do on the three boards I belong to I always make sure that the thread title has a clear warning about Spoilers. My intent is not to ruin anybodies reading experience on the title but to hopefully make it more interesting as to get people to want to buy and read the book. On the Civil War board I know that they have had messages posted by the Moderator not to post any spoilers until that Wednesdays street date. If the Moderator ever had a problem with the Spoilers posting the day before then I would be fine with that and go along with them.

So, Montoya is "Miss Not-Appearing-In-This-Issue"?

Yeah.

And it looks like Sivana's caterpiller thingy is something to do with Mister Mind who is something to do with suspendium which might be something to do Skeets.

Unless it isn't.

Now, who the hell is Mister Mind?

Jack Zodiac

Mr. Mind was a Captain Marvel villain. He's an alien caterpillar that can control peoples' minds. Here, Sivana says he used suspendium to force Mr. Mind to develope past his larval stage, which is why we saw him in a caccoon earlier in the series. Now, the suspendium- artificial time in particle form- is acting weird. Also, Doctor Tyme mentions his missing fifty-two seconds again- the fifty-two seconds Rip was counting down in the Fortress.

Whoever said Skeets is being controlled by Mr. Mind gets a gold !@#$ing star! Also, I totally called the Metal Men thing. Didn't figure he'd be making them inches high, but I s'pose he had to do what he could to hide 'em.

Disappointed in the turn Nat's story took. Not so much her getting caught, but Everyman eating her boyfriend. That sub-sub-plot was unimportant as hell. Eh, anyway, we get to see John go nuts on Lex next issue. That's gonna' be awesome.

Excellent origin this week, too! Mr. Terrific drawn by Van Sciver? Great stuff.

Luthor is, once again, a force to be reckoned with. Loved the twist with the scientist, and the final lines of the main story. "You're as much an animal as Everyman"... Perfect!

Also enjoyed the Mr. Terrific origin. "The world wasn't fair? He'd make it fair." Here's hoping they collect these origin back-ups in one big volume at some point.

I noticed in the Mr. Terrific bio they didn't mention that it was the Spectre who inspired Michael Hall not to commit suicide. Here it's the memory of his wife and brother that inspire him instead. Chalk it up to New Earth, I guess.

I still like the guy who pointed out it was a small amount of gold, which brought on the thought of "micro-machine machine men"...which seems to have been on the money....

Mister Mind using Skeets as his transportation?

random thought: helm of fate gold colored and skeets gold covered?

I think that ralph will reunite with his wife at the end of the series.

I noticed that too. They need to give Ostrander and Mandrake's Spectre series the props it deserves whenever they can. One of the best series ever.

Good ish. I'll now be awaiting the 52 column on Newsarama for explanation about the Montoya thing.

I had been speculating since last week that Everyman was impersonating Starman to get close to Nat. He pulled the same gag in week 31, and I'm fairly certain he did it a Luthor's behest. Whether Luthor had Jake (Starman) murdered is yet to be seen, but it wouldn't surprise me.

There Was No Dragon In This Issue.

T_______________________________t

All though there was the big under water sea monster that could be called a dragon, which makes me think the mistake is that it should have said Dibney faces a dragon, and they got mixed up because later Montoya will fight one.

A good issue I though, definitly moving at a quicker pace again. Things unfolding more and more. And was that Aquaman or what?
And what about the blurb from Didio at the back? World War 3 is the The World against Black Adam. Now that sounds cool.

maybe the "dragon" is referring to Richard Dragon... and Montoya will face him in an upcoming issue. They may have just gotten the week wrong.

Wouldn't be the first time they put the ticker information in the wrong issue cover.

I agree with Montoya fighting Richard Dragon in a future issue.

Hey, thinking about how fat Sobek is getting...and that Sobek was down in the lab with the Mr. Mind cocoon....

You know, you also get all kinds of hungry and "fat" when you're pregnant...wonder if Mr. Mind is about to pull an "Alien" and burst out of Sobek....

How weird would it be if Skeets was a ship being piloted by tiny evil Metal Men?

Chalk it up to New Earth, I guess.I don't think that's a retcon. Just an unnecessary detail that doesn't fit into a two-page story. You don't need to mention that Joe Chill killed Bruce Wayne's parents to get the gist of Batman's origin, you just need to know that the parents were killed; likewise, you don't need to know that the Spectre convinced Michael Holt to not let his dead wife down, you just need to know that Michael made the decision to honour his dead wife's memory.

Is the brother a new addition? I haven't heard that detail mentioned before.

Evil micro-machine men use Gold as a transport vehicle, start travelling in time, go forward in time to become Booster Gold's sidekick, come back in time and turn all nasty and start torturing/killing time travellers, eat the Phantom Zone....

Wow, even for comic book standards, that's way too complicated and stretching things....

Is there any significance to the female scientist's nosebleeds? Some sort of Max tie-in or just coincidence?

Don
02-04-2007, 01:01 PM
Someone mentioned on another board that Waid likes to equate nose bleeds with other-worldly/extra-dimensional god-like beings. That's about the only real tie-in.
