The manga started kinda weak, but it's been getting better... I'm into vol. 04 and I'm diggin' it.

Never watched the anime. Nine times out of 10 the anime is a weaksauce, drawn out and filler-full version of the manga (Naruto, One Piece, Dragonball), but not always (FMA, Black Lagoon). I can't tell you where D-Gray Man fits into it all.
