Man, was that so fun. Wonderful art by Allred and crew. It had color on every page! What a crazy concept! Wonderful chaotic colors!

ALso, those crazy mutant powers, the ability to skateboard really well

And who didnt love Doop? All with a sly wink at our obsessive society.

The story was fun but the art was plain horrible, so I never really got into it.

Actually I lost interest in it when they introduced Pink. He was standing in front of a brick wall in a 3rd world country as a tank rolled by and they had thier spotlight on him but he camo'd his skin like the brick so they didnt see him.

BUT he was wearing a bright blue body suit with a bright yellow X down his whole body, in front of a grey wall.

Private: "Hey whats that?"
Sargent: "What? The wall with an x-men costume standing in front of it?"
Private: "Yeah! Do you think we should shoot it?"
Sargent: "Nah, we cant see the head and hands so it cant possibly be someone we would want to shoot, keep moving, nothing to see here."

That was Issue #2, the first and last issue I ever bought. Course it was X-force then, but I was a fan of old school x-force and felt that this was not worthy of the title even if x-force had become pretty bad before the change over.

I loved it... I loved the art, the tongue in cheek nature and the fact that it was so the antithesis of the first X-force series...

Having said that, I do feel that it had kind of run its course so cancelling it wasn't a bad thing..

No. The satire thing got old real quick given the book was cancelled when Peter Milligan left the title.

Er, he left the title because it was cancelled.

Then Rob Liefeld returned with his horrible X-Farce. Marvel needs to bring back John Francis Moore on the X-Force book...

I don't see a real need for an X-Force book at all. The characters are either depowered or dispersed to other teams.

I miss it. But I think it's best to just leave it be. The occasional throw-back project (like with Dead Girl/Strange) is nice. But I wouldn't want it to become a staple X-book wherein they would drag out the character endlessly.

Well, unless I was writing it of course.:p

Well thats the thing, it was NEVER a staple X book, it was outside of the loop.

X-Statix Presents Deadgirl sold really well, so I dont know why they dont relaunch it...they already introduced that idea that anyone can come back from the dead! So do it!

Marvel is getting very political these days and X-Statix was very political, but funny. Marvel could use a good title like this.

Oh well. :(

Peter Milligan was fun on this title.

Allred is spectacular and lovely and one of my favorites.

X-Statix Presents Deadgirl is one of my favorite minis of ALL TIME. It was amazing.

I loved the creative team; Milligan is pretty good with his own characters.

I miss the book, but wouldn't be interested in reading it if Milligan and Allred weren't the creative team.

If they're both seemingly done with it, I'm fine with it being gone.

And it wasn't cancelled. Being practically a creator-owned book, it ended when the creators wanted it to end. Much like Alias ended when Bendis wanted it to.

I loved it and would LOVE to see someone else tackle the team if Milligan and Allred can't/don't want to do it.

On the same coin, I don't feel an empty space without it and I am just fine with the fond memories.

from what i remember it was the creative team that choose to end the title not sales. as for my feelings on the comic, i have to say i greatly enjoyed it. it was always a fun read for me back in the day and i adored deadgirl immensley.

i freakin loved this title. It was hilarious and the art was spectacular. :D but I wouldn't want it back without Milligan and Allred on the title. now on the otherhand a Deadgirl series....that I could buy.

maybe with Milligan and steve Rolston?

i just recently read the last tpb of x-statix and i have to say, no. i don't miss it. it was losing steam towards the last year or so and i think it's great that they're gone.

the mini with dead girl was good though

Man did I love it. When I came into comics via trades I tried out the first X-Force tpb and it was a pure adrenalin rush - really different! I immediately went and ordered the second.

I loved the whole celebrity theme and the characters were so real it was just so so awesome.

The art I guess is an aquired tase but I personally adored it - the chacters had such presence.

I missed it so much at first but...

I agree it really lost steam. It all started to go wrong when the whole "Princess Diana back from the dead" story got out and was seriously controversial and had to be scrapped even tho Allred had already done alot of the art and the story had to be changed up and was just really random...

But it has some of my fave scenes of all time...I'll NEVER forget Lacuna messing with them and Edie suddenly realising her wine glass was on her head "Please don't tell me I have a wine glass on my head...Lacuna - this has got to STOP!" And then Guy jokes how Lacuna is younger and doesn't get tired after using her powers to which Edie storms off and Guy says "but what about my speial ointment?" (to de-sensitise him so he can have sex without it being agony) Edie shouts back angrily "Rub it on yourself - "MISTER SENSITIVE"!" Classic!

God, I miss it. It's pure gold. It's one of the greatest super-hero comics Marvel has put out, and certainly the best new X-book in recent years.

It had it all. Compelling and diverse characters, a unique creative style, over-the-top action and cutting dialogue, and beatifully-executed social commentary that didn't beat you over the head.

I read my X-Force hardcover more than any other book. I can dive in at any point and enjoy what I'm reading. It's just so good. It was so original and it held nothing back, from graphic deaths to thorny issues to emotional punches in the stomach. And the characters! No two alike, each with his or her own personality. And their powers were cool, tied to the personality in some funny way.

But, people either got it or they didn't. Some people picked it up and said "where's my X-Men?" and dismissed it immediately, not realizing that X-Statix was more than X-Men.

Man, but did it have a great run.

*Sigh*

Nah, Milligan and Allred MADE X-Statix what it was. The book really depended on its creators.

Can you imagine Mister Sensetive all sexified and three-dimensional as drawn by Steve McNiven in Civil War? It would just be heresy!:D

Marvel is getting very political these days and X-Statix was very political, but funny. Marvel could use a good title like this. That said, I enjoy imagining how the... erm... gripping social commentary of Civil War would have come out if written by Milligan instead of Millar. In fact, I'd love to see Milligan write Penance!

And I have to agree that although I was utterly teary-eyed as I read the last issue of X-Statix, the creators knew when to end it. The idea had run its course and it was "degenerating" into a standard superhero book. This isn't technically a bad thing, since the characters were great, but the whole exercise was becoming ironically pointless as the team grew consciences.

No. Not really.

It was supposed to be satire. But it was pretty poor satire, in as much as it wasn't genuinely amusing, let alone funny. Simply not as clever as it thought it was.

This is a book that I hated when it first took over X-Force, or maybe I simplly refused to give it a chance. About a year ago, I picked up 6 or 7 issues in a bargin bin and absolutely loved them. I am currently trying to collect the entire run right now.

I miss it like a baby misses their mother's womb. :(

Eventually, Like every child, I learned to live outside the womb, but it would be nice if I could go back to it once in a while (with new minis etc):)

i dropped x-force with issue 115 and skipped on milligan's run (including x-statix).

i considered getting into it a few years back but after milligan's x-men run i think i'll probably pass (i know they're different books but i really don't know if i'd enjoy it).

edit:
i was in the same boat as valen. who knows, i might still check it out someday.

I loved it. I thought it was a great concept and a refreshing spin on comic book story telling. I wish it lasted longer.

I was a bit partial to the first team, as they were the originals. After that, it became an over-commercialized corporation entity, with no real identity as a superhero team.

I still don't see how Plazma couldn't have survived the explosion that supposedly killed him, as his body was essentially goo already.... (Giggity - Giggity). This is one character that I would have liked to have explored what his powers could do... Other giving his female team mates facials and self made body lotions... (Again, Giggity - Giggity).

Man, I miss them too. Which mod moved this thread to x-book forum? Despite the name, X-STATIX was NOT an x-book. Not at all.

It should return. If Milligan doesn't wanna write it, then Warren Ellis, Jeff Smith, Mike Allred, Jeph Loeb, or Sergio Aragones should do it.

I don't think it could really be X-Statix without Milligan...:(
Allred is crucial too, but the Dead Girl mini was co-pencilled by Draggotta and it was equally good! ;)

The mini wasn't by Allred?! REALLY? Draggotta, whoever he is, is PERFECT then if Allred can't do it! I didn't know that.

I thought it was both of them on the mini

ibrakeforchinwe

Yeah, they were both on the issue. They took turns doing pages. If you look closely you can tell who's who.

They make a good team.
