The team behind Wormwood has managed to create a fun and funny blend of satire, politics and fantasy. You can read about the first issue here (http://madbastard.hypersites.com/site/page/pg3150-pn_Wormwood_1.html).

Chronicles of wormwood..Ennis's idea looks pretty fun in this. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out at the end of the series.

So I've got a question that someone on here probably has a better answer for than I can come up with. Danny mentions he can use his diabolic gifts only once per day on mortals, but any time he chooses against people of similar ilk, ergo Jay. So why doesn't he just heal Jay from his brain damage?

That probably just wouldn't work. The powers of the AntiChrist and the Son of God are so fundamentally opposed to each other, that they simply can't affect each other for good or bad - like oil and water, their powers just don't mix.

Alternatively, maybe he can't heal anyone with his powers - his diabolical powers can only be used for harm and mischief, never to heal.

I could see that, but it says differently in the book.

Among my own kind, or Jay's, I can cut loose any time I want.

That very well could be it. After all, there aren't any Bible stories about Satan healing anyone.

Templesmith is awesome.

Nah, they mean "Chronicles", cheers though!

Wormwood returns next week though with #5, so I'm told, and a big bunch of preview pages can be found here (http://ben-templesmith.livejournal.com/61932.html). :)

HEY! YOU ROCK!

Back to the topic;

I'll take that Satan's powers are only meant for harm as a definite answer. Sounds theee most logical to me. Having satan curing him from brain damage kinda like go against the logic/nature of Satan itself. Unless of course..he has an agenda up his sleeves, a bad one that is.

This comic is friggin' deadly! I picked it up the day I was supposed to pick up The Boys #7. Funny as hell and pretty smart too!

I got the preview, um seems like years ago, and I was very pleased at how issue one repeated the preview pages, but in such a way that enough new material surrounded and incorporated the preview I never felt ripped off 'oh I read that already'-style. Really, really looking forward to issue two and onward; issue one's a great start, & I thank the creators for another wonderful reason to be reading comics!

Issue #3 came out this week. While the book is still funny as Hell, the philosophical ruminations seem to be half-baked and written in a hurry. There's a full review over there (http://www.silverbulletcomicbooks.com/reviews/117884854448827.htm).

And don't forget that the road to hell is paved with mimes...

I'm enjoying this book a lot so far. Can't wait for #4!

I have to agree with Madbastard, I thought this was a pretty weak issue, I was expecting a lot more. It all felt a little adolescent, the 'half-baked' description seems apt. Also for the cover price it was pretty short. Reading that back reminds me of the Woody Allen- 'The food was dreadful', 'Yes and weren't the portions small', but I reckon with a bit more space the pacing could have been better, it could have been fully-baked.

I give it one or two more issues then I'm going to cancel if this wasn't a one-off. The first couple of issues were significantly better, so one hopes that this was just rushed (although not very given its tardiness).

#3 is my favorite issue yet. No plot, but what a bunch of crazy fun ideas. Check out the expression on the nun's face while she's pegging the Pope. Hilarious. Everytime I think there's no way Ennis can get any more outrageous (for example CofW#2), he finds a way to push it even further. God bless him.

For me, in the last two issues the rabbit steals the show. Leave it to Ennis to make a character that's not human, but better than most people.

Jimmy, Jay all return and the world hasn't gotten any better since their last adventure. Wormwood still produces questionable TV shows and pines for Maggie, his lost love. The boys all share drinks at their favorite pub and try to get on with their lives, but Pope Jacko has his own plans for Wormwood. In order to dispatch the Anti-Christ once-and-for-all, he dispatches his finest Holy assassin, Brother One, the Killer Eunuch! If you loved the original series, then you don't want to miss the next chapter of Garth Ennis' new sacrilegious masterpiece!"

I've been enjoying this series. Can't wait for the one shot.

Why does Garth Ennis hate God?

Okay, I'm half joking with that question, but I always really enjoy his satire on religion... until he shows God as being an inept jackass. In this one, he really shows God to be a wanker, quite a real wanker. In Preacher God was a lazy bum kinda like the dude from Big Lebowski.

It's weird, because I enjoyed most of it. Okay, the Pope was over the top, but there have been real Popes who have been much worse. (I learned that in a Catholic High School history class even.)

I loved his Heaven and Hell in this book. This version of Jesus was very nice and it seems like he had nothing but respect for the real guy. Even got me weepy a few times.

Yet when it comes to God the Almighty, you know, the maker of Heaven and Earth and all that is seen and unseen.. Well, I guess that's where Garth and I part ways. I really don't think The Almighty is really a wanker.

Still, I look forward to this follow up.

Man, I just got the tpb and it blew my mind with outrageousness. Great fun had by... most? Kind of weird to see Ennis recycle either some of his older ideas (how he represents God is a repetition from Hellblazer), and he steals another joke about a portrait of MLK with "Whitey" printed on it, which is an inversion of Ex Machina's Lincoln painting that says "Nigger." Overall though, I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the one-shot.
