OK, I did not see that one coming. Granted, we'll see if it lasts any longer than your average Diamond Dave/Van Halen reunion.

Audioslave suck IMO, but each to their own. I'm glad Zach's here to take the power back

Well, like I said, let's see if this lasts past a show. Or, for that matter, if they've managed to rekindle any of the magic.

Man, I'm pretty lukewarm about Coachella this year. Bjork, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage as headliners? Don't care to see any of them. Of course, the headlining stage is so crowded it's not worth seeing the headliners anyway. EDIT: I came across a confirmed lineup.
The rest of the list:
Tiesto, Arcade Fire, Interpol, Manu Chao, Willie Nelson, Air, Happy Mondays, The Decemberists, Faithless, Gotan Project, The Good, The Bad and The Queen, Paul Van Dyk, Arctic Monkeys, The Roots, Jarvis Cocker, Sonic Youth, Crowded House, Placebo, Satellite Party, Stephen Marley feat Jr. Gong, Kings of Leon, DJ Shadow
Kaiser Chiefs, Koono No. 1, LCD Soundsystem, Nickel Creek, Travis, Damien Rice, Black Keys, Blonde Redhead, Infected Mushroom, New Pornographers, Peeping Tom, Placebo, Rufus Wainwright, The Rapture, Explosions in the Sky, Richie Hawtin, !!!, Benny Benassy, Felix Da Housecat, Hot Chip, Jacks Mannequin, Julieta Venegas, Lily Allen, Lupe Fiasco, Ozomatli, Peaches, Ghostface Killah, Jose Gonzales, Amos Lee, Brazilian Girls, Fountains of Wayne
Regina Spektor, VNV Nation, Coco Rosie, Cornelius, Gillian Welch, Junior Boys, Pharaohe Monche, Roky Erickson and the Explosives, Soulwax, Sparklehorse, The Kooks , Tilly and the Wall, Andrew Bird, Peter Bjorn & John, The Frames
Gogol Bordello, Comedians of Comedy, Justice, MSTRKRFT, We Are Scientists, Yeva, Grizzly Bear, Amy Winehouse
Avett Brothers, Circa Survive, The Coup, The Cribs, CSS, Digitalism, Erol Alkan, Evil Nine, Girl Talk, Klaxons, Noisettes
Spank Rock, Tapes 'n Tapes, The Fields, Tokyo Police Club, Rodrigo Y Gabriella, DJ Heather, The Feeling, Fratellis, Mike Relm, Silversun Pickups, Busdriver, Brother Ali, Nightwatchman (Tom Morello) , Bojones, Mika, Pop Levi, Anathallo
Fair to Midland
Okay, I'm kinda excited. The New Pornographers? Tapes N' Tapes? Amy Winehouse? CSS? Arcade Fire? All great bands I want to see. I missed Regina Spektor when she came through Tucson, so it'd be great to see her. Lily Allen, LCD Soundsystem, Kaiser Chiefs, Black Keys, The Good, The Bad and The Queen, The Roots and even Willie Nelson would be cool to see.

 I can't believe it, even though i live halfway across the country, i would make the trek, just to see Rage!! It doesn't matter what other bands are playing at the Festival, I would pay just to see Rage, yea! Testify!!! Chris Cornell is awesome, and so is Audioslave, but it is nothing compared to Rage!

Wow, elheffe, pretty keen line up. If I still lived in southern California, I'd definitely consider Coachella this year.

I would love to see Coachella this year and I'd love to see Rage. Plus the Roots, Brazilian Girls, Regina Spektor, Damien Rice, Ghostface, Sonic Youth, Comedians of Comedy? Sounds great. I've lived in LA for 6 years and I've never been. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure I have a gig in Florida that weekend.

Why is Audioslave automatically "dead"? While this is astonishing news, what I read at the official RATM site asserts this is a one-off performance.
Where has it been stated that Audioslave has disbanded?

I wouldn't be surprised if Audioslave called it quits but I haven't heard anything definitive. I got a feeling when they released two albums in quick succession that they might be trying to fill a contractual obligation, but who knows. I certainly hope they stay together.

The only songs that they've done that stand up to owt on RATM or Batlle of LA is Coiche...I probably spelled that wrong. (haha, the irony, I spelled wrong worng, haha)
I dont know if theyll have the same impact, but audioslave hasnt had the same impact so I say move over and let the masters have another shot.

Yes, "Cochise" is a kickass song, but there isn't a dog in the bunch on that first album. Audioslave was never meant to be RATM Mk.II or Soundgarden Mk.II.

I've seen both the Chili Peppers and Rage back in the '90s. And that's not to say that I'd not want to see either band again, it's just that if I had a choice of, say, seeing The New Pornographers at a smaller stage or Rage or RHCP at the overcrowded main stage, then I'd definitely go see The New Pornographers.

As a MASSIVE Audioslave fan, i hope they haven't broken up. I trust Chris will continue to produce greatness tho, and his 2nd solo CD is dropping around March, so maybe they are just on a break? I thought all 3 of their albums have been awesome.
Rage is not exactly my cup of tea, but I am happy they are back for the fans, altho from what I heard its a "one-off."
I think whatever happens Chris Cornell will still be a mighty force for years to come. I thought the Rage boys did a great job in AS, but he can do it alone, if he wants to.

The hell with Audioslave, they're alright and do have a few kick ass songs. But man, RATM is easily the best band ever!! I'm drivin down from Toronto with a buddy of mine JUST to see Rage. This is the greatest thing ever. I'd murder nine sick orphans to go see these guys, so glad Zach is back.

Its the year of the comeback. Smashing Pumpkins , RAGE , Van Halen ( bwa ha ha ha ) , ok I'm serious. Its nice to see them back. But Audioslave was freakin awesome for what they were. They did some great work there and its rare when the shattering of 2 bands ( Soundgarden/Rage) could produce a band that was pretty damn good for the music they made.
If its a permanent thing then I hope Audioslave becomes a side project for Morello/Cornell then. One they can do an album here or there every few years.

I'm sorry but everybody here seems to think that that's it, RATM is back in business, everybody will be happy and they'll stay together for the next ten years. Well, Zach De La Rocha is not the most emotionally stable of individual, and the issues that broke the band the first time are very likely to resurface this time. I don't think this will last more than one or two nights.

It's not like la Rocha spawned a huge solo career after he left the band.
Funniest thing about the article though...
"The chart-topping quartet, famed for its angry denunciations of capitalism even as it recorded for a label owned by Sony Corp"
That was a totaly unnecesary jab, in my opinion.
I won't mind seeing Rage back for the simple reason that idiot political lyrics from bands like System of a Down won't be considered anything but crap in comparison. Never been a huge fan of morellos guitar noise, and i'm not a huge fan of Zach's...i guess it's rapping, but they occasionaly rocked, and i love me some rock.

As for TheLazy's claim about RATM having some fabulous impact on the world, remind me again what that impact was? "Cause y'know I googled Rage Against The Machine and Impact on the world, and I got dick for results.
And last time I checked which was about two minutes ago, Leonard Peltier was still in jail, and Muaham Abu Jamahl or whatever the fuck that cop killing scumbags name is, he was still on Death Row with no sign of his case being reviewed and absolutely no possibility of his conviction being overturned.

What are you talking about?
I merely refuted the completely bullshit claim of a poster who said that RATM was one of the most influential bands of all time. Tell me, how precisely did Leonard Peltier and Muhima Abu Jamal or whatever that cop killing scumbags name is, lives change after Rage came along? They are both still rotting away in prison, as they should be.
Ah, but I forgot to mention yet another of Rage's favorite "causes" the Zapatista terrorist movement in Mexico which seeks the violent overthrow of the government and has said they will introduce death squads and a dictatorial government.
Nice.

But it's totally true. They recorded records for one of the worlds largest corporations... if that isn't hypocrisy, I don't know what is. More like 'Rage Against My Record Label. Also, that sucks to get busted on by Yahoo!

Didn't have the money. I do a little freelance in the beginning of the year and get the tickets when I get paid for that, which typically, has been the three day Presidents' day weekend. But I suppose that if they keep trying to book big headliners, I'll have to either not go anymore or try to buy them sooner somehow.

They were a mainstream rock band.
Is there really any other kind of rock band anymore?
Rock is seeing about as much innovation as rap these days.
I don't think thats necesarily bad, as good rock isn't really popping it's head up much anymore, but i don't think Rage is going to reinvent everything.
To be totaly honest, i think they all want to grab some cash before Bush is out of office.

Pretty true. If they do an album I hope its as good. I really when Audioslave formed , didn't want a Soundgarden or RATM band. I really wanted to see them mix things and for awhile , a lotta the songs was pretty damn sweet. Morella showcased his skills , spread his name futher with Audioslave. Cornell was always having that Soungarden monkey on his back and his 1st solo album wasn't a huge seller (Euphoria Morning ) . Even though I really loved it.
Audioslave was something that came along and helped everyone. I do wish they had left the door open and every few years used the band & name as a side project. If the RAGE thing doesn't work , and Morella wants to keep Audioslave going who gets the nod to follow Cornell ?

From my perspective, as a huge Chris Cornell fan, I EAGERLY await the solo album, dropping in May. It's been a great ride with Audioslave, and "Out of Exile" is for me one of my most favorite albums ever, but I look forward to Chris Cornell solo. The group afforded everyone another taste of success, but I think it has played itself out, and everyone can now take that momentum and apply it to their next pursuit.
I would NOT be a fan of AS continuing without Chris, and I certainly wouldn't buy an album of it. That said, Rage looks to be back on, anyway.
Roll on May 1! (That's the date "Carry On" will be released!)

I know what u mean. I think it has some "angry guitar work" (according to wikipedia), but I must admit, I love his acoustic stuff as well. There will be his stripped back rendition of "Billie Jean". And the song from "Casino Royale". Other than that, its a bit of a mystery!
