Crispin Glover

They're great actors and probably nice people in real life but for some reason these guys just squick me out. No matter what role they're in, they just give off a creepy vibe. Anybody else get the same feeling from these guys and what would you say is the reason for it?

Guys like that have had their careers defined by playing the bad guys. Which might explain why they always they give off that spooky vibe. But yea I definitely agree with you.

Other creep-os for me have to be Vincent Schiavelli and Jeffrey Jones.

(Jones especially, what with the fairly recent headlines about his sexual deviency. Plus he was in Ravenous. That movie creeped me out to no end.)

I didn't recognize the name until I saw his photo on IMDB. Also, was surprised to find out he died just over a year ago.

Udo Kier! I'm sure he's a fine man, filled to the brim with the milk of human kindness; but he's been one creepy-ass guy, at least since Andy Warhol made him a star!

Depends on the actor. In Walken's case it's because he's great at playing such characters and, as a result, has been typecast into such roles (which is fine because he always manages to liven up even the worst movie with his quirky presence). In Glover's case it's because, by all accounts, he's kind of creepy and scary in real life.

There's a distinction that needs to be made between actors that excel at playing slimy characters and actors who themselves come off as slimy.

That's what I thought was meant by "skeevy," too. Sleazy, date-rapist dirtbag type, as opposed to "villainous.' A list to which I would add Skeet Ulrich, Eric Balfour, and Ben Affleck. :D

As far as excelling in 'creepy bad guy' skeeviness goes, ditto on Walken, Dourif, Kier, Glover, Jones, etc. I'll toss in:

Richard Lynch
Billy Drago
Rutger Hauer
Michael Emerson
Tobin Bell
Brian Cox
David Patrick Kelly

I never got a creepy vibe off Walken in interviews. Just the opposite, really. He's clearly odd and quirky, but in a funny goofball way. And a lot of times he seems to be very intentionally making fun of his standard film image.

Ah; good to draw a distinction between the two groups. Douchebags is the place to put Hawke, Affleck, et al, then.

Nice to see someone else appreciates the inherent creepiness of Drago and Lynch, too.

Billy Bob Thornton is the first thing on my mind when I think of skeevy people, with Benicio Del Toro in a close second. Ben Afleck just comes across as a bum mooching for a beer from his friends, but not skeevy.

Meloni is great; he should get to cut loose and play villains more often. He often seems stifled in his Law and Order role on TV, imo. Meloni was who I thought should have played Bullseye in the DD movie.

True. That's why I was glad the distinction was drawn previously between villainous/sinister and skeevy/douchebag. Hauer belongs in the former category, Ulrich the latter.

Robert DeNiro does exude a skeeviness in some way. He seems like he could be normal to you for like a few weeks, and then one day, he would kidnap your kids, and tell them you were dead, and that he wants them to call him, "Tio Bobby."

But to get back to skeevieness, I would like to throw early Steve Zahn. He just looks like that guy who buys 13 year old boys beer, but makes them come to his mom's basement to get it. Then one day, you read the paper, and there he is with the mugshot.

I also see some skeevieness in mustached Leonardo DiCaprio. Dude, his mustache is circa 15 year old boy. He definately looks like the kind of dude that if he wasn't a world famous celeb, he would throw on the old letterman jacket, and pick up any 15-16 year old girl at a party, get her knocked up, and not pay child support ever.

And for an athlete...well anybody who thinks Adam Morrison is not a child predator is just lying to their self.

How about the guy who played in Oz and Sleepers... Terry Kinney

I would also place that character actor from Batman begins( the one who plays the corrupt cop in the sex offender category too) He was also in 2 Fast 2 Furious

If we were to compile a list of professional wrestlers past and Present this list would get really long

I think you mean Mark Boone Junior. Or something like that. He is pretty skeevie looking in 2 Fast 2 Furious. Of course, most things that have to do with Miami have some sort of Skeeve involved.

I'd nominate Seth Green in anything after the first Austin Powers movie. Especially "Goldmember" when he started to look more like Mr. Evil.

He was a sweetheart as Oz on Buffy(the strong, silent artist type), but Scott Evil was just wacked out.

are we differentiating between 'skeevy' and 'sex offenderish?'Well I think both are the same thing. It's just a sliding scale of where you rank the actors. For me, Steve Buscemi ranks as the type of guy who would steal from you kids' piggy bank. Otoh, Christopher Walken reminds me of the kinda guy who would eat your kids and make you watch.

Homer Jay differentiated skeevy into creeps (or bad guys/villains) and douchebags (or 'sex offenders,' if you like) earlier, so yeah, there are two groupings. Sinister-looking guys like Walken, Rutger Hauer, etc. would go into the first group, while the greasy, shifty likes of Steve Zahn, Skeet Ulrich, etc. go in the latter.

I wouldn't say that Clive Owen generally looks cocky. Ben Affleck, OTH, looks like one cockym'fer. Someone else once hit the nail on the head, in saying that he has this look on his face all the time like he's standing in front of the camera thinking "yeah, that's right, I'm Ben Affleck..."

Quentin Tarentino seems really skeevy to me. So do the Lowe brothers, but they're better at hiding it.

Good call on Clive Owen. That dude looks like he goes to bed at night, looking in the bathroom mirror, saying, "It's so wonderful to be Clive Owen everyday. I really do feel sorry for those poor blokes who aren't Clive. Honey, get in here quick, I'm Clive Owen for Christ sake, do it now."

As for more cocky actors....does anybody just want to punch out most of the Ocean's Actors while they are in those films, or is it just me. Ocean's Twelve just felt like a movie thats sole purpose was to make the viewer say "Damn, I'm worthless for not being George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, or Don Cheadle. I mean, they've got to be great, they just said so on film, right there. And this Vincent Cassell French dude has got to be as great as them, because they are saying he's great." Man, George Clooney is on an otherworldly plain when it comes to cockiness and smarm.

It's weird, some of these actors I like them because of their skeeviness and some of them I dislike because of it.

Walken, Jeffery Combs, and Buschemi all are creepy, but I really like them. I also see them as nice guys that are just.. um.. freaky. The late Vincent Sciavelli too. Nice guys, but can carry the creepiness which they use for some really creepy characters.

Then you got ones like Crispin Glover or Ed Norton. Creepy or skeevy guys I just wouldn't want to meet in person. Though I liked a number of Norton's roles. And I guess Glover can really act, because he was Marty's dad in Back to the Future. Though he was a peeping tom perv in that, after all.

Clive Owen.. I'm inbetween on him. Maybe he's jsut typecast as a world weary schlub. Guess it fits that he's gonna be Phillip Marlowe. Also, Daniel Craig, but again, it worked well for this Bond reboot.
