2) Put some thought into it. Starting up a thread with a one or two sentence equivalent of "so, what do you think" isn't good enough. You're not supposed to just give a topic and then say "Discuss". If you have something to say, say it. If you can't summon the requested effort to start a discussion, keep it to yourself and wait for someone else who actually has something to say to start up the thread, and then reply.
