View Full Version : New Teen Titans/New Titans question

I have finally given up on the classic Titans. I adored the early New Teen Titans adventures when I was a kid, so I went back and amassed a full run of every Titans appearance from the 1960s to the 1990s. I've been rereading these for quite some time now, and I've finally discovered that what everyone else has been saying for ages is true. The comic completely drops off once the second volume of New Teen Titans begins. I just finished #26, and I don't think I have the strength to read any more.

So my question is this. If I stop reading now and get rid of everything post-1984 or so (you won't believe how much space this stuff takes up in my collection!), am I missing any particularly worthwhile stories down the road? I already know what happens to Jericho and Raven towards the end of the New Titans run, and have a basic idea of where the team goes after that (as well as what Team Titans was), but are any of the later stories that I'm chucking actually worth reading? Will I regret this decision later?

Thanks in advance!

I actually have the same question. My collection basically stops after the brief Garcia-Lopez run on NTT volume 2, because I don't want to subject myself to the sheer horribleness of Kory's arranged marriage to Karras. I picked up some of the issues of Who Is Wonder Girl?, because of the Perez artwork, but I don't like those issues very much. I also have the first issue of Titans Hunt, which is pretty good, but I've heard that the rest of that storyline is completely unreadable.

So I'm wondering the same thing as shaxper: Are there any other post-Perez issues of Titans that I should be collecting?

The current series is good except for the issues that came out around Infinite Crisis (volume 6 in the TPBs, I think).

Yes, I've been reading it since OYL and enjoy it thoroughly.

I'm just wondering whether anything good and worth reading happened to the Titans between 1987 and 2005 (New Teen Titans vol. 2, New Titans, The Titans, Team Titans, Teen Titans vol. 2, (early) Teen Titans vol. 3, early Outsiders vol. 2, etc).

I would say no, there's nothing worth reading after the switch to Baxter paper. But then I haven't read all of it, so I can't really give a definitive answer. For me, New Teen Titans ends with Donna's marriage to Marv Wolfman -- I mean Terry.

The newest Outsiders series is kind of too violent and sexed-up for me. The newest Titans is good from the first issue to about 25 or so and then picks up again around OYL. Young Justice was pretty fun if you're into goofy super-hero stuff. The Titans of that era (whatever they were called, the ones that eventually became The Outsiders) was pretty bland.

Nah, not really, I think if you pick up all the recent teen titan books you are ok, because they basically tell you what happened in the past, also, if I heard they are doing a teen titan history issues in the back pages of 52 soon, so you should be able to catch up :D

Wow, I thought I was all alone! My New Teen Titans collections also trails off shortly after Jose-Luis Garcia-Lopez's short run. I've picked up a later issue every once in a while, but they don't seem interesting enough for me to put much effort in collecting the post-JLGL stuff. I certainly think both the first five issues (by Perez) and the JLGL issues are great. I think I like JLGL better than Perez.

But the only later issues that I've found particularly compelling are #20-21 - a two-parter with Cheshire. But I gotta say that #39 has the best cover.
