Is there even such a thing? I watched Bloodrayne last night and wanted to punch everyone in the mouth involved with making this film (even the catering folks:D ).
Anyway, has there ever been a good video game film adaptation? The only two I could think of that didn't completely suck were Resident Evil and Streetfighter. I know some of you are gonna clown me for saying Streetfighter, but it has a certain camp value that makes it enjoyable.

Streetfighter blows , Mortal Kombat beats it to submission and the MK movie wasn't really that great but i love the rocking soundtrack. :D
I know a lot of people dislike Doom but i thought it was a decent movie , the rock should be the star , not fricking Karl Urban who has the charisma of a lampost.
Resident Evil movies were decent. Silent Hill had decent reviews though i have yet to watch it but am planning to , Tomb Raider had Angelica Jolie so it's all good. ;)
Any videogame movies made by Uwe Boll sucks - Alone in the dark , Bloodrayne etc etc.

maczero: Gotta agree with you on the Streetfighter movie. It was campy, but in the good "Army of Darkness" sort-of way that works to its advantage.
Also, the first Mortal Kombat movie was pretty good.

I liked Street Fighter for it's fun and sillyness.
Mortal Kombat was awesome, but without a doubt in my mind, Resident Evil is the best, and one of the best zombie films ever made period.

silent hill hands down...though thats not saying much.i think studios buy the rights to make a quick buck.they know fanboys are gonna go see these films anyway, thus theres no real incentive to actually make them better.

Some may disagree, but my personal favorite game based movie has to be the Super Mario Brothers. There. I said it.:p

Silent Hill. That movie was pretty well done.

Mortal Kombat was pretty good. It stuck to it's storyline rather well, aside from adding Kitana.
Streetfighter was aiight in the aspect of just watching the videogame in real-life format.
Resident Evil was great.
I rented Bloodrayne and ripped it to my laptop before ever watching it. I finally got time to watch it a week later. It was one of the worst pieces of crap I have ever seen in my life. Horror flicks from the 20s had better special effects than that movie. I never played the game but that movie probably ruined it totally for me.

PRODUCER ONE: Hey, let's make a movie loosly based on a hit series of videogames!
PRODUCE TWO: Only if you promise not to include anything even remotely like what made the games popular.
PRODUCER ONE: OK. I'm just looking forward to all the breathtaking visuals we can create in a totally CGI world!
PRODUCER TWO: I want this thing to look exactly like every other sci-fi movie in the last thirty years.

Silent Hill
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Super Mario Bros. Both of the FF movies put me to sleep. They were extremely weird and hard to follow. Maybe I couldn't get into them because I don't play the games.
My biggest gripe with Mario Bros. was who they cast as leads. A Colombian and a Brit play Italian brothers?

Bob Hoskins was a decent Mario IMO. But John Leguizamo just didn't have the look to pull of a good Luigi.
Daisy was hot though. But I digress.:p

He did a good job in the role, but when the movie came out I was a little confused because for some reason I'd always thought the character was meant to be Asian. Not that M. Bison is particularly Asian, but I think the game said he was from Singapore or some such because that's where Shadaloo had their international headquarters.
It wasn't until I read about the name changes years later that it all made sense.

Mortal Kombat doesn't really hold up as well as it used to, but it was the best martial arts movie in at least a decade when it came out.

I wasn't impressed with it then. Except for the Johnny Cage vs. Scorpion fight, I found it pretty blah.

It was also the closest an American movie had come to simulating a HK martial arts picture since Enter the Dragon. It was the only American film to actually hold a camera on a fight for more than a single move at a time. Watching it now, I can see it is heavily flawed, but at the time, it was a breath of fresh air.

I don't know about any of you but back then , i marked out when i first saw the trailer for the mortal kombat movie as it's quite true to form to the video game (especially when you see Goro) and the rocking soundtrack makes you pumped up for the movie. Possibly the most famous video game movie theme song ever.

The Goro monster was incredibly well done. They took more liberties with Shang Tsung but that didnt change the fact that he kicked ass.

Are we talking live action only here? because there's been some pretty decent anime ones, with my personal favorite being Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie.
That movie rocked if only for the Chun-Li/Vega fight. That fight was amazing.

Mortal Kombat was probably the truest, so I like that the best.
I just watched Resident Evil: Apocalypse the other night, for the first time, and it wasn't that bad......quite good actually.

Not even close. The song in question isn't even from the games, it was created for the film's soundtrack.

As far as I'm concerned, take out all the Mortal Kombat sound effects and it sounds like every other techno song ever made.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
No just no. I watch 20 minutes of this movie and turned it off. It represents everything thats wrong with typical animie. Bad voice overs, sterotypical 'cool' character names. Im ashamed that this is what humanity as to offer as a sequel to FF7
Devil May Cry (2008)
Oh please god tell me this is true. I bumbed the DMC games. Dante is the badest badass ever, fact, not opinion. Okay opinion.;)
From what I've seen, Resident Evil 1 is the only movie that really holds any water, although ive yet to see Silent Hill.

It stayed true to the game, was good for it's budget and re-invigorated American Martial Arts films.

Nope, the video game predated the card game by a year (in Japan, there was only a couple of months difference when both came Stateside). And both predated the anime.

Dear lord.
Comic fans have nothing to complain about in terms of movies when compared to fans of video games.
Although I did like some of the tv shows that were made based on games (Super Mario Bros, Legend of Zelda, Captain N and the Game Masters, Sonic the Hedgehog).
