That live action series that's in the pipes could be stepping up the juice on the crave for this mother.

I've resisted the trades for years, hoping for an oversized hardcover release...so, it better come out!

I'd probably just buy the trades. Preacher's worth reading NOW.

But if the show ever works out, I'd assume an Absolute version will come.

Steve Dillon does a good job on Preacher, but in all honesty his style doesn't strike me as one which would particularly benefit from being oversized

DanYeah, probably not. But his artwork's pretty similar to Gibbons' in WATCHMEN, which got ABSOLUTEd. Some of the artwork in SANDMAN won't benefit from being oversized, either.

I like the series enough that I'd like to see it get the ABSOLUTE treatment, though.

I think I wanna see an absolute lucifer first (but that's mainly because I haven't read any lucifer yet!)

An Absolute Preacher would be nice, but I'd prefer ABSOLUTE TRANSMETROPOLITAN, say, 3 nice HC's, each around 500 pages.

Also, Darick Robertsons artwork will be much more appealing in an oversized edition than Dillons would.

But I guess if another Vertigo series gets the Absolute treatment, chances are Preacher will be first.

How big would Absolute Preacher have to be? Isn't it like thirteen tpb's?

-Sven-

It was collected in 9 TBS's, 2016 pages altogether.
So probably 4 smaller or 3 big HC's, depending on whether they include any extra stuff.

I'm waiting for the book on tape myself.:D

I could see this as 3 big hardcovers myself. If the Preacher HBO series becomes a hit DC would almost have to give this the Absolute treatment.

Absolute Fables would be nice also.

I think you mean very nice...!

I think the main reason for doing an Absolute Sandman (besides the opportunity to cash in on Neil Gaiman cultists) was twofold: 1) get rid of the new and really ugly hardcover editions, which most fans dislike, and 2) recolor large, screwed-up chunks of the series (this was also a factor for Watchmen, and the recolored version was incorporated into the next printing of the TPB, which was a nice little bonus). This is particularly important for The Sandman because the coloring on the first few issues is just atrocious, and during Brief Lives there's a mistake on the color of Delirium's eyes that has been reprinted AGAIN AND AGAIN. It'll be nice to see that set right for once.

Absolute Preacher? I wouldn't buy it, but I can dig it.

What's wrong with the colouring in the original printing of The Watchmen? I always thought that was one of the best colouring jobs I'd ever seen

Ah well - you have to bear in mind that I'd be perfectly happy if all TPBs were produced in digest size

Guys... there's no way. No Absolute Preacher. It's SIXTY-SIX issues, and the first and last are DOUBLE-SIZED, plus the SPECIALS. Come on, let's be realistic here... around 1800 pages in comic format, can you imagine yourself reading that? And then you get up from the couch after trying, the gigantic book slips from your hand and breaks your foot... really, not worth it. Good for decoration, but to read it would be terrible. Buy the TPBs.

Yeah, but like it's already been said, you had to split it up into maybe 4 HCs, like Absolute Sandman.

That's what I did. I bought and read all the trades awhile back, but I kept them all. It is one series that is worth reading again. (And probably again after that.)

Fuck Absolute Preacher. The TPBs are all that you need. They're actually modestly priced compared to most collections.

Give this guy an award or something. I ABSOLUTEly (hic) agree. Absolute Sandman is different. Absolute Sandman is for the grand kids (especially the ones going to college) to keep to remind them of their Pops. An Absolute Preacher collection in however many volumes just feels... I don't know redundant. Besides, I'm planning on buying all the Absolute Sandman volumes and I don't plan on reading those. Maybe look at them once or twice and them put them on the shelf where they belong. Reading, that's what the regular tpbs are for.

Yeah, Preacher would, but Transmetropolitan is just the kind of series that has to be absoluted. Story and Artwork are among the best in modern comics, plus it has the most appealing and vivid protagonist ever.

Transmetro is probably one of those series I'd gladly borrow from someone else to read but would never own. Sorry.
